Abstract

The study aimed to examine differences in the daily activities of Green peafowl (Pavo muticus) by gender at IPB Dramaga, Bogor. The observation was conducted on two individuals of Green peafowl (one adult male and one adult female) using the focal animal sampling method, with each observation duration of 30 minutes. Daily behavioral data were grouped into 13 observation time ranges. Differene in behavior across observation times were analyzed using the Friedman, while differences between male and female weretested using the Mann-Whitney U test.The results of the analysis show that the highest use of time in the daily behavior of green peafowl is investigative behavior and self-care (>30%), and based on observation time, investigative behavior shows significantly different (p<0.05), while other behaviors are not significantly different (p>0.05). Furthermore, pecking and resting behavior in females was significantly (p<0.05) higher than in males, while display behavior in males was significantly (P<0.05) higher than in females. The conclusion of this study, based on the observation time, is that there are differences in variations in daily behavior of birds (investigative behavior) and in daily behavior (pecking, resting and displaying) based on gender. It is necessary to separate cages by gender outside the mating season and to add feeding areas to ensure animal welfare.

Abstract

Numerous studies examined the effects of human disturbance on the home ranges of mammals, reptiles, and birds. Primates adjusted home range size according to habitat characteristics. However, there is a lack of reports that synthesize the ranging behavior across primate species under anthropogenic pressure. To facilitate our understanding, this study reviewed the literature on the ranging behavior of the genus Macaca in areas affected by various human disturbances. We found 41 reports, published between 1989 and 2025, that covered locations across regional areas from Asia, Africa, and Europe. The home ranges of the genus Macaca, which involved 15 macaque species, were documented as being impacted by human settlement, followed by agriculture and habitat degradation. The macaque species whose home range included human settlements and agricultural areas adopted smaller home ranges in response to provisioning food and crops, respectively. Meanwhile, the macaques tended to avoid areas exhibiting high levels of habitat degradation, expanding their home range in response to intensive logging. Our review provided important information to consider the anthropogenic impact in developing conservation management.

Abstract

Microalgae are known for their ability to produce protein and reduce certain pollutant levels. One of the main challenges in microalgae cultivation is the provision of suitable synthetic growth media. Anaerobically Digested Dairy Manure Wastewater (ADDMW) has potential as an alternative growth medium due to its relatively high nutrient content. This study aims to analyze the effect of ADDMW-based cultivation on the growth rate, biomass production, and protein production of Chlorella spp. and Nannochloropsis spp., cultivated both in monoculture and mixed culture systems using an open raceway pond bioreactor. Cultivation was carried out using Chlorella spp. and Nannochloropsis spp. with an initial volume ratio of 1:1 (v/v) over a 7-day period, and the ADDMW wastewater was diluted 25 times prior to use. The highest specific growth rate, biomass yield, and biomass productivity were observed in the mixed culture, with values of 1.47 day⁻¹, 0.95 g·L⁻¹, and 0.28 g·L⁻¹ day⁻¹, respectively. The highest protein content was also obtained from the mixed culture, reaching 56.25% of dry biomass, whereas the protein content in monocultures of Chlorella spp. and Nannochloropsis spp. was 40.42% and 40.11%, respectively.

Abstract

The Anggori Educational Forest in Manokwari, West Papua, is a lowland tropical rainforest with high biodiversity, but information on fungi in this region is still very limited. This study aims to identify, characterize the morphology, and inventory wild mushroom in the Anggori Educational Forest. Sampling was conducted in December 2025 using the opportunistic sampling method, followed by macroscopic and microscopic observations in January-February 2026. The results of the study successfully identified four fungal taxa consisting of the Basidiomycota phylum, namely Marasmius sp.1, Marasmius sp.2, and Gymnopilus sp., and the Ascomycota phylum, namely Xylaria sp. The Marasmius genus was found abundantly on litter and twig substrates with the ability to rehydration. Gymnopilus sp. was found growing in colonies on littered soil, while Xylaria sp. was found on decaying wood with the characteristic hard stroma that resembles a finger (dead man's finger). The shaded microclimate conditions of the Anggori Forest, high humidity (>80%), and the availability of abundant organic material are the main supporting factors for fungal diversity in this area.

Abstract

Drosera is commonly found in nutrient-poor habitats such as heath forests on Belitung Island. This study aimed to inventory and map the distribution of Drosera species, analyse habitat floristic composition, and examine the influence of microhabitat and microclimate factors on their abundance. Field surveys were conducted using an exploratory method, and data on species abundance, vegetation composition, microhabitat, and microclimate were collected using quadrat plots at five locations. Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess relationships between Drosera abundance and environmental variables. Two species, D. burmanni and D. spatulata, were recorded in habitats with low species richness (21 species from 14 families), dominated by Leptospermum polygalifolium, Melaleuca cajuputi, and Calophyllum lanigerum. Understory vegetation included Baeckea frutescens, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, and herbaceous species from Cyperaceae, Eriocaulaceae, and Poaceae. Drosera occurred on clay, quartz sand, and rocky substrates, with D. spatulata more common on clay and D. burmanni on quartz sand. Drosera abundance was significantly influenced by soil moisture, soil acidity, and understory density, but not by understory cover. These findings highlight the importance of microhabitat and microclimate in shaping Drosera distribution and abundance.
