Abstract

This study aims at (1) identifying the lingual form of disfemism in Joko Widodos Facebook account; (2) describing the addressing form containing sarcasm in Joko Widodos official Facebook account; and (3) identifying the sarcasm expression used by the operator and the uploader of the account. The object of this study is polite expressions. Linguistic unit of the expressions can be in the form of word, phrase, clause, and sentence. The data of this present study are sentence or sentences in Jokowis official Facebook account that contains positive connotation words. The data contexts of this research are discourse containing positive connotation sentences, the topic of discourse written by people in Jokowis account, the identity of the participant, and the context of extra-lingual that is based on the importance of the operator of the presidents social media account. The data collection was conducted through documentation technique. The data in Jokowis official account were copy-pasted. Then, the data were being read intensively to note the positive connotation utterance. The data analysis was conducted through referential (identity) method, pragmatic (identity) method, translational (identity) method, and articulatory phonetic (identity) method. The referential (identity) method was used to identify the topics that were stated by the uploader of the account. The pragmatic (identity) method was used to identify the background of (profession, organization etc) that appeared in their writings. The translational (identity) method was used in describing the origination of the language they use. It is possible that through the use of this method, this study finds the register on that account. Finally, the phonetic (identity) method was used to identify the utterance characteristic they stated. The positive or negative emotion of the speaker, usually, marked by the special pronunciation. To establish the data analysis, this study uses distributional method: substitution technique and paraphrase technique. Based on the data analysis, this study shows several results. First, the euphemism utterance in Jokowis official Facebook account using any levels, i.e. word, phrase, clause, and sentence. Through those levels, the writer presents suggestions and critics to the owner of the account Joko Widodo. Second, the functions that are stated through that account are expression device, communication relationship to the leader, integration device, and self-control device. Third, the topics stated by the people in that account are about the depiction of Joko Widodo that in their opinion, Joko Widodo shows pretending, the existence of Megawati in the election of Joko Widodo as a president, the increasing of IDR currency and other things at the beginning of his leadership. The expression shows hatred towards the elected president. Furthermore, they also express about Jokowis unability to establish the IDR currency and his leadership is judged as not good. In addition, to the people, especially netizen are invited to disbelieve to his leadership.

Abstract

This research aims (1) to comprehend the relative construction of English andIndonesia language on some texts relating to Donald Trump is elected as the 45thPresident of USA in 2016 semantically, and (2) to describe the analysis of relativeconstructive clauses between English and Indonesia language semantically. Theresearch method is descriptive qualitative. Meanwhile, method of collecting data isagih method and the techniques are substitution, expand, interuption, and mutation.Based on the texts relating to Donald Trump is elected as the President of USA in2016, it is found that the analysis of relative constructive clause of English andIndonesia language is based on the use of conjunction. In Indonesia language texts,there is one conjuction, namely: “yang”, meanwhile in English language texts, thereare five conjuctions, namely: “who, whom, which, whose, and that”. If it is viewedfrom its semantics adjacent, relative clause can be divided into two sections based onits orthographics, namely: (1) restrictive relative clause which refers to the explainedantecedent or as the integral unity from antecedent and unmarked by comma, and(2) non-restrictive relative clause as the additional information from antecedentexplained and marked by comma.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the referential meaning Ngomikmaksa sites, knowing depiction Ngomikmaksa criticism on the site, and determine the relevance of research results as teaching material in high school learning Indonesian. Collecting data using techniques of documentation and technical notes. The method used to analyze data is unified method intralingual subtype referential with advanced engineering techniques Pilah Element Qualifier (PUP), the second match ekstralingual data analysis with advanced technique appeal something equalizing circuit (HBPS), and the third using constant comparison analysis techniques. According to the research, there are three conclusions: based on the results of research on the meaning refrensial in his criticism on the site Ngomikmaksa there is some form of reference, namely the iconic sinsign, icon argument, iconic legsign, rhematic indexical sinsign, rhematic indexical legsign, dicent indexial legsign, rhematic symbol, dicent symbol , and punctuation symbols. From the analysis, it is known that the reference or the sign of the most widely used is the iconic sinsign. The overall meaning of all the data that has been collected is to discuss the events in Indonesia which is considered very unbalanced or unfair. Through the demonstration of the great figures in Indonesia, namely the president, the founder of the party, ministers, artists, governors, where motorcycles online, and permanent employees. All these figures are figures that became the center of public attention in the nearest period. Relations in learning criticism (text anecdotes) in Indonesian can be concluded that the use of polite language when giving a criticism. This was evidenced by the examples given on the site Ngomikmaksa encourage Shiva understand ethics in providing such criticism, using a logical reason, the language must be polite, and invites the reader to think of a solution.

Abstract

Penelitian mengenai model test TOEIC ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan deskripsi dan penjelasan yang komprehensif mengenai sejumlah aspek yang terkait dengan butir butir soal yang ada. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan polapertanyaan pada butir soal Completion dan Error Recognition pada Reading TOEIC, (2) mendeskripsikan konteks bacaan pada soal pemahaman teks Reading TOEIC, (3) mendeskripsikan pola pertanyan pada butir soal pemahaman teks pada ReadingTOEIC, dan (4) memaparkan frekuensi masing masing tipe pertanyaan pada butir soal pemahaman teks pada Reading. Lingkup penelitian ini adalah model test TOEIC, khususnya structure dan reading comprehension yang diambil dari beberapa buku latihan test TOEIC. Data terdiri dari 500 butir soal yang yang diambil dari buku latihan TOEIC yang diterbitkan oleh Barron’s Educational Series, Prentice Hall, dan Longman. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa teknik dokumentasi. Data dianalisisdengan metode deskriptif interpretatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagai berikut: (1) komponen linguistik yang ditanyakan pada bagian Completion and Error recognition meliputi pertanyaan tentang penguasaan vocabulary (54.34%), Classof words (15%) (Verb, Noun, Adjective), Verb tense (11.33%), determiner (5.33%) preposition (4%), conjunction (3.67%), Degree of comparison in Adjective (3.33%), dan Conditional sentence (3%); (2) Konteks bacaan pada butir soal Reading Comprehension meliputi bisnis, manufacturing, finance and Budgeting, Offices,personnel, purchasing, housing/corporate property, travel, dining out, entertainment, dan Health; (3) pola pertanyaan Reading Comprehension meliputi: (a) gagasan utama dan kemungkinan judul yang tepat, (b) informasi yang tersurat dalam teks, (c)informasi yang tersirat, dan (d) dan tujuan penulisan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian di atas disimpulkan bahwa penguasaan kosakata sangat penting untuk keberhasilan dalam test TOEIC karena 50%-nya berupa penguasaan kosakata.

Abstract

This research has two aims as follow (1) to identify forms of deviation linguistic politeness in the text of announcements made by students of class VII SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Sambi (2) to describe the correct form of politeness to deviations linguistic politeness in the text of announcement made by students of VII grade SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Sambi. This research is a qualitative research. Objects of this research is a deviation politeness on the text of announcement made by students of VII grade. This research data such as words and sentences that contain the deviation politeness on the text of announcement made by students of VII grade SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Sambi. Data collection techniques are observe attentively methods and take notes, record and documentation. Authenticity technique of data in this research use triangulation technique. Data analysis techniques use padan intralingual method. This research results indicate that form of impoliteness speaking at announcement text made by students of VII grade SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Sambi Boyolali, include cost-benefit scale or of losses and gains scale, optionality scale, indirecness scale, authority scale, dan social distance. Impoliteness speaking on the text of announcement made by students in terms of optionality scale amounts to thirteen data. Impoliteness speaking on the text of announcement made by students in terms form authority scale amounts to one data.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze group conformity, self-esteem and self-efficacyempirically as predictors of academic dishonesty behavior on MTsN students.Hypothesis is conducted by applying regression analysis.Data collecting used on thisresearch are four scale measurements of academic dishonesty, group conformity, selfesteemand self-efficacy. Respondents involved in this research are 280 students ofMTsn between 12 to 16 years old range, consisting 138 male students and 142 femalestudents. The analysis shows that group conformity, self-esteem and self-efficacyvariables contribute 39,7 % toward students’ academic dishonesty. Conclusively, theresult of this research confirms that group conformity, self-esteem and self-efficacyare predictors of academic dishonesty on MTsN students. The strongest variableamong them is group conformity.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe the types of error, to analyze the frequency of error and to describe the source of error in oral productions made by English department students in microteaching class at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research are utterances containing errors taken from Microteaching video. The data collection technique of this research is documentary study. There are 289 utterances containing error. The writer uses descriptive qualitative technique to analyze thedata. The writer uses theories from Clark and Clark, Dulay, Burt and Krashen and also Selinker to analyze the error. In the result of this study, the writer divided types of error into three classifications. They are speech error, morphological error, and syntactical error. Speech error (80,28%), in speech error divided into seven types, they are: filled pause (39,5%), repeats (18,34%), silent pause (10,73%), stutters (6,57%), interjection (2,08%), correction (1,73%), slip of tongue (1,38%). Morphological (13,84%) in morphological error divided into three types, they are: Omission of Bound morpheme {-s} as plural marker (2,77%), pronunciations (8,30%), vocabulary(2,77%). Syntactical error (5,88%), syntactical error divided into four types, they are: omission of modal {will} (1,38%), omission of preposition (1,38%), question construction (1,38%), incorrect word selection (1,73%). The sources of error arecognitive reason, psychological reason and social reason.

Abstract

The study aims at describing the learners’ error made by eighth grade students of SMP AL Islam Kartasura in their writing descriptive text; identifying the types of lexical error, syntactical errors, and discourse errors; explaining the frequency of each typeof errors; describing the dominant type of errors; and identifying the sources of error. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. In collecting the data, the writer uses elicitation and documentation technique. There are some steps ofcollecting the data; asking the students to write descriptive text, collecting the data in form of erroneous sentences and paragraph, identifying the composition, marking the types of error, and at last, listing the erroneous sentences and classifying them into the classification of errors. The collected data are analyzed using Dulay, Burt and Krashen classification of errors theory, frequency of each type of error using Slamet’s theory, and Brown’s theory for sources of error. The results of the research show that the eighth grade students of SMP AL Islam Kartasura make 291 errors in their composition which are classified into three categories of error based on the combination of linguistic category and surface strategy taxonomy. There are lexical errors that cover: misspelling 12,37% and literal translation (the use of Indonesian construction) 6,87%. Syntactical error consist of omission of {-s} as plural marker 4,12%, omission of {-s} as third singular person marker 10,31%, misselection of have instead of has 8,25%, the use of verb-ing in structure phrase 1,72%, omission of verb 2,40%, omission of be 1,5%, addition of be 2,40%, the use of prepositionin prepositional phrase 3,44%, omission of article 1,37%, addition of the article 1,72%, misordering in noun phrase 19,93%, misordering in phrase 1,37%, and the last is addition of unnecessary word 5,50%. Discourse errors is 2,06% that covercomponent of discourse in reference 2,06%. The writer also finds 2 dominant sources of errors, namely interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan secara mendalam tentang pemertahanan  bahasa Melayu Palembang di Palembang, melalui sarana media elektronik.  Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode etnografi menurut  Spradley dengan alur maju bertahap (developmental research sequence Spradley). Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi, catatan lapangan, studi dokumen, kuisioner, dan fotografi. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan peneliti adalah (1) penentuan fokus, (2) pengajuan pertanyaan-pertanyaan, (3) pengumpulan data, (4) penganalisisan dan penginterpretasian data. Selanjutnya teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan menggunakan model Spradley (etnografi). Peneliti menganalisis data lapangan yang dikumpulkan dari hasil observasi terhadap partisipan untuk menemukan pertanyaan. Selanjutnya peneliti menganalisis catatan lapangan. Terdapat empat jenis analisis yaitu analisis domain, analisis taksonomi, analisis komponen dan analisis tema.  Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada beberapa media elektronik yang ada di Palembang, bahasa Melayu Palembang masih tetap dipertahankan. Upaya pemertahanan ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melestarikan bahasa Melayu Palembang agar tidak terjadi pergeseran dan kepunahan terhadap bahasa Melayu Palembang.

Abstract

This article is a case study on exploring teachers beliefs on teaching methodology in the 2013 curriculum and their application in language teaching. The type of the research is a case study. It is an in depth study of a particular situation. The object of the research is beliefs on teaching methodology in The 2013 Curriculum and their Applications in Language Teaching at MTs PPMI Assalaam Sukoharjo. The subjects of the research were English teachers of MTs PPMI Assalaam Sukoharjo. There were two males and two females teachers. There are three kinds of data sources, namely field note, interview, and document which were taken from informants, documentation, and events. The writer applied four techniques of collecting data, namely open ended questionnaire, observation, in-depth interview, and documentation. The data validity used triangulation method to eliminate bias. It used Miles and Hubermans model in analyzing the data. This study, there were found the EFL teachers beliefs on teaching methodology in the 2013 curriculum and their application in the language teaching, namely learning objectives, syllabus, classroom management, teachers role, students role, instructional material and assessment. Besides, there were also found that there were some discrepancies found between EFL teachers beliefs and their practices in classroom teaching. They were in the component of learning objective, syllabus, and classroom management. There are some factors contribute to these discrepancies, namely (1) the teachers internal factors, (2) teachers external factor. The last, there are some factors contribute to shape the EFL teachers beliefs on the method of teaching English at MTs PPMI Assalaam Sukoharjo, namely (1) teachers experience as language learners; (2) experience from teaching; (3) expectation from the school, parents, the government, and the local society; and (4) training.
