Abstract

This study aimes to identify the types of errors in the students writing, to know the frequencies of each type of errors, and to investigate the causes of errors. There are three types of errors occured in the students writing namely lexical error, syntactical error, and discourse error. The errors can be categorized into twenty four subcategories of errors: wrong spelling words (10,35%), wrong selection words (15,53%), omission verb (0,74%), omission v-ing after preposition for (0,55%), addition unnecessary verb (0,74%), using simple present tense refers to simple past (22,37%), use simple future instead of past future (2,40%), using irregular past verb tense after to infinitive (2,40%), addition final ed after to infinitive (1,85%), addition v-ing after to infinitive (1,11%), addition double marking verb (1,66%), omission to be (11,65%), addition to be (1,29%), omission s/es in the use of plural noun (2,40%), addition s in singular noun (1,29%), omission article (6,47%), addition unnecessary article (1,66%), wrong article (1,11%), wrong subject pronoun (2,03%), wrong object pronoun (0,55%), wrong possessive pronoun (2,03%), generic structure (2,96%), reference (2,03%), wrong selection conjunction (4,81%). The most dominant error is in syntactical error i.e. using simple present tense refers to simple past with the percentage 22,37%. Those errors are caused by four aspects, they are overgeneralization, incomplete application of rules, ignorance of rule restrictions, and false concept hypothesized.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know conversational implicature in Para PencariTuhan (PPT) TV-series (volume I), especially to know and describe the kinds ofmaxim which float in PPT TV-series (volume I) and to describe the background offloating maxim in conversational implicature at PPT TV-series(volume I). This isqualitative research. The data of this research are conversational implicature ofsome utterances in PPT TV-series (volume I). The source of data is Para PencariTuhan TV-series (volume I, episode I) produced by PT Demi Gisela Citra Sinema.The researcher obtain the data through documentation technique. This techniquestarts by listening whole implicature in PPT TV-series (volume I), taking note wholerelated data, classifying and taking note the data in data card. This research uses flowmodel analysis to analyze the data, which include collecting data, data reduction,data presentation, and conclusion or verification. The data analysis show that thereare floating in some coperative-principle of maxims, they are maxim quality (twoutterances), maxim manner (two utterances), maxim relevance (one utterance).The floating maxim in PPT TV-series are influenced by some factors, they are thesimilarity of presupposition, the speaker refers to certain reference, and the use oflocal interpretation.

Abstract

The present study deals with Indonesian interference in English. It aims at giving a thick explanation about grammatical interference which especially exists inEnglish Workbooks for Junior High School students in Surakarta. The data consist of sentences containing interference taken from 10 English workbooks as data source. There were 185 sentences collected as data which were analyzed using error analysis framework and sociolinguistic perspective. The research findings show that there were seven types of grammatical interference: mismatching (62/33.51%), preposition(35/18.91%), superflous expression (27/14.59%), parallel construction (21/11.35%), passive (17/918%), conjunction (14/7.56%), and modifier and adverb (9/4.86%). Only one out of 10 workbooks, that is LKS Bahasa Inggris by MGMP, contained no language interference. The other 9 books contained language interference with the highest frequency occurred in LKS Bahasa Inggris RABEL (45/24.32%) and thelowest in LKS Bahasa Inggris Komunikasi Aktif (1/0.5%). The study also shows that the interference was due to two factors: the bilinguality of the book writers and the tendency of transferring old linguistic behavior in the new one (from Indonesian to English), which basically due to the writers’ constrains in English grammar.

Abstract

Salah satu cerpen karya Ahmad Tohari adalah Rumah yang Terang, dalam kumpulan cerpen Senyum Karyamin (2013). Cerpen tersebut merekam peristiwa masuknya listrik ke suatu desa. Seperti dinarasikan di dalam cerpen tersebut, keberadaan listrik berdampak secara signifkan terhadap masyarakat baik secara positif maupun negatif. Segi positif menghadirkan perubahan secara fsik dengan keberadaan lampu dan fasilitas lainnya untuk menunjang kehidupan masyarakat. Di sisi lain, segi positif tersebut berdampak negatif yaitu “matinya” budaya dan sisi-sisi kemanusiaan dengan hadirnya teknologi yang berdampak pada perubahan perspektif dan menjadikan mereka sebagai pasar untuk kapitalisme lanjut dengan keberadaan teknologi dan informasi. Rumusan masalah tulisan ini mengenai persoalan-persoalan yang hadir dalam masyarakat berkaitan dengan keberadaan teknologi dan informasi setelah hadirnya listrik yang memungkinkan masyarakat mengalami ketergantungan dan perubahan pola pikir karena interaksi dengan dunia luar. Metode penulisan ini dengan menunjukkan bentuk-bentuk inhumanisme masyarakat dalam cerpen tersebut. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori postmodernisme Jean Francois Lyotard sebagaimana dijelaskan oleh Struart Sim mengenai kondisi Nirmanusia. Hasil dari pembahasan ini adalah Inhumaisme dalam masyarakat desa yang diakibatkan oleh hadirnya listrik sebagai pondasi awal hadirnya teknologi dalam bentuk hilangnya kebiasaan-kebiasaan kultural bagi masyarakat setempat, baik dalam hal kebiasaan merespons alam atau konflik-konflik baru pasca hadirnya listrik dalam masyarakat. Hal itu terjadi karena hadirnya artifcial life, menggantikan peran alam yang selama ini menjadi bagian kehidupan masyarakat seperti keberadaan rembulan. Akses informasi yang diperoleh oleh masyarakat setelah mengenal teknologi yang menghadirkan nilai-nilai baru dan berbeda dengan nilai-nilai yang mereka miliki sebelumnya sebagai masyarakat komunal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) memaparkan tingkat kesulitan butir tes bilogi kelas 7 semester gasal, (2) memaparkan daya beda butir-butir tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal, dan (3) mengetahui reliabilitas tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal. Tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal terdiri dari 100 butir soal dan diujicobakan pada200 responden. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah program iteman versi 3.00. Hasil analisis menunjukan: (1) Tingkat kesulitan butir-butir tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal berkisar 0,025 sampai 0,775. Tingkat kesulitan butir yang palingsulit adalah butir 30 dan tingkat kesulitan butir yang paling mudah adalah butir 75. Perbandingan persentase butir yang mudah: butir yang sedang: butir yang sulit adalah 26%:29%:45%, (2) Daya beda butir-butir tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal berkisar -0,226 sampai 1,000. Daya beda yang paling rendah adalah butir 47 dandaya beda butir yang paling tinggi adalah butir 65 dan butir 66. Butir soal yang mempunyai daya beda butir jelek ada 18 butir. Butir soal yang mempunyai daya beda butir cukup ada 23 butir. Butir soal yang mempunyai daya beda butir baik ada 22 butir. Butir soal yang mempunyai daya beda butir sangat baik ada 37 butir, (3) Reliabilitas tes biologi kelas 7 semester gasal adalah 0,839.

Abstract

The purpose of this study are (1) describes the use of grammatical cohesion devices in the rubric "Selebritas" in the Feminamagazine; (2) describes the use of lexical cohesion devices in the rubric "Selebritas" in the Femina magazine; and (3) implement the use of grammatical and lexical cohesion devices in rubric "Selebritas" in Femina magazine as one of the teaching material to write narrative texts. The results of this study were (1) grammatical cohesion devices analyzed in this study consisted of 10 reference, 6 conjunction, 3substitution, and 3 ellipsis. Counterfeit reference cohesion divided into 7 reference persona, 2 demonstrative reference and 1 comparative reference. Reference persona is divided into 1 pronoun first person singular, 1 pronoun first personplural, 4 pronouns third person singular, and 1 pronouns third person plural; (2) lexical cohesion devices analyzed in this study consisted of 7 equivalence, 2 hyponymy, 2antonym, 2 repetition, 1 synonymy and 1 collocation; and (3) the results of this research are used as teaching material in high school students of class VII in accordance with Curriculum 2013. These teaching materials can be applied to core competencies 4 and basic competence 4.5.1 which students were asked to compile a narrative text.

Abstract

This article aims to identify a society’s identity though its culinary aspect. Nowdays,fastfood has been favourite food dominating traditional one. Youth generationpriorities fastfood than traditional food because they regard it more prestigious.Thisphenomenon can not be separated from the uses of Mass media as an important wayto convey foreign product of fastfood as better culinary than local product (kudapan)selling in traditional market. This research uses qualitative methode such as libraryresearch and observation to analyze the phenomena which is happening. The findingof this research implied that cultural identity can be seen in culinary. Cultural identityin culinary is showed by its substance and making process. Thus, the implication ofthis research is to convey the society to love their traditional culinary as a reflex ofcultural identity.

Abstract

This study reviews the perlocution speech acts of Indonesian language teachers in class XI SMK 1 Sawit, Boyolali. This research aims to describe the classification of perlocution speech acts in Indonesian language teachers in class XI SMK Negeri 1Sawit, Boyolali and to describe its functions. This research used descriptive qualitative methods. The analyses techniques used in this research refer to free skilled, technical notes, and recording. The results showed that there are four types of perlocutionspeech acts. They are directive-perlocution speech act, expressive-perlocution speech act, representative-perlocution speech acts and commissive-perlocution speech acts. The directive-perlocution speech acts were found in the forms of orders, reservationsand giving advice. The expressive perlocution speech acts involves hatred, pleasure, excitement. The representative form of speech acts include affirmation, description, statement of facts and conclusions. The commissive form of speech acts include denial. The results of this research showed that the perlocution speech acts function found in Indonesian language teachers are the functions for competitiveness and fun.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of instructional methods based on phonics instruction in reading classes to improve students participation therefore they can develop to their maximum potential. Using qualitative tools of observation, documentation and interview, this research was focusing the inquiry on investigating students’ reception to the phonics instruction model, observing their participation in the classroom activities, also investigating instructional methods which attract students to more actively contribute in learning activities. The finding shows that the reception of students to the model was good and they showed much eagerness in following the program. Further investigation revealed that students keen to participate more in the classroom activities especially in certain activities with the use of sound sheets, sound book, flash card sheets, word box sheets, songs, games and storybooks. However, there were two challenges identified during 16 weeks running the study; the lack of teachers’ skill in delivering this method efficiently also the limited collection of English story books in school. Hence, to improve the effectiveness of the use of phonics instruction in reading classroom, firstly, training for teachers would be needed to deliver the method effectively, secondly, considering the fact that school still have limited collection of English story books or any English books, the collaboration with government agencies or other promising bodies could be done to help in providing more collection of storybooks in school.

Abstract

Ada dua tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam penelitian ini yaitu tujuan umum dan tujuan khusus.Tujuan umum dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 3 Sungguminasa Kabupaten Gowa pada mata pelajran bahasa Inggris materi descriptive paragraph  materi Writing. Tujuan khusus penelitian ini adalah; a) Untuk menganalisis data hasil belajar siswa, b) Untuk menganalisis motivasi dan komitmen siswa pada mata pelajran bahasa Inggris materi descriptive paragraph  materi Writing, c) Sebagai dasar model budaya untuk mengembangkan model pembelajran lain berbasis local value. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif, yaitu pendekatan yang memungkinkan dilakukannya pencatatan dan analisa data hasil penelitian secara eksak dan menganalisis data menggunakan perhitungan statistik. Oleh karena itu pendekatan kuantitatif banyak dituntut menggunakan angka, mulai pengumpulan data, penafsiran terhadap data serta penampilan hasilnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan eksperimen quasi dengan Disain kelompok kontrol yang non-ekuivalen (Nonequivalent Control Group Design).Hasil yang diperoleh dari analisis statistika deskriptif adalah: (1) Hasil belajar bahasa Inggris siswa dalam menulis paragraf deskriktif yang diajar dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Siri, Na Pacce berada dalam kategori tinggi dengan rata-rata 70,04 dan standar deviasi 22,18 dari skor ideal 100. (2) Hasil belajar bahasa Inggris siswa yang diajar dengan pengajaran langsung berada dalam kategori rendah dengan rata-rata 38,23 dan standar deviasi 26,53 dari skor ideal 100.
