Abstract

This study is mainly intended to find out the extent to which tasks in English work books are designed to develop the students’ communicative competence. The objective of this study is to describe how the tasks in Edukatif work books are designed to develop students’ discourse competence, linguistic competence, actional competence, sociolinguistic competence, and strategic competence. This study is a qualitative research which involves content analysis approach. The data are the tasks in Edukatif work books used by eight grade students of the first and second semester. In collecting the data, the writer uses documentation method. The data analysis used Huberman and Miles’ concept which involves data reduction, data display and verification. The findings show that among the five competences and its components of communicative com- petence, some components are not well developed in the work books. The tasks develop all components of discourse competence except one aspect in linguistic competence, that is, phonology. The tasks develop all components of actional competence except the speech act. The tasks develop components of sociolinguistic competence except the cultural and non-verbal communicative factor. The tasks develop only one component of strategic competence, that is, time gaining strategy. The conclusion is that the tasks in Edukatif work books are sufficient to develop the students’ discourse, linguistic, and actional competence. The tasks, however, are not sufficient to develop students’ sociolinguistic and strategic competence.

Abstract

DM affects many people in the world and is one of the biggest problems for the nation. Some treatments ranging from medical to non-medical (alternative actions) have been carried out by each individual to be able to recover from the disease. Alternative and complementary therapies are therapies that are in great demand by people throughout the world, not least in Indonesia because they are relatively cheap and safe. One alternative therapy that can be done is by the "Smart Energy" Method. Therefore, research on the use of the "Smart Energy" Method as a preventive alternative for reducing blood sugar levels in DM patients is very important. The purpose of this study was to find out and evaluate the effectiveness of using the "Smart Energy" Method as a preventive alternative for reducing blood sugar levels in DM patients. The design used in this study used a pre-experimental method with the one-group pretest-posttest design (before and after) approach. Each research subject becomes control of himself. The research was conducted at the DM Rehab Club. Taking blood samples as well as carrying out the therapy and evaluation is done on the same day. The duration of therapy is ± 20-30 minutes and carried out for 30 days with 2 methods namely direct therapy (therapist and respondent are in the same place) and long distance (therapist and respondent are not in the same place) but the principle of therapy remains the same. The implementation of Reiki therapy is assisted by a certified Reiki therapist. There was a significant difference between the examination of blood sugar levels before and after Reiki therapy. The average value of blood sugar levels before therapy is 294 mg / dl while after 30 days of therapy 266,635 mg / dl is obtained. There is effective use of the "Smart Energy" Method as a preventive alternative for reducing blood sugar levels in DM patients.

Abstract

The food and pharmaceutical fields are two elements needed in everyday life to improve human health and well-being. This is because functional foods, medicines, and natural cosmetics have become an increasingly current trend to be applied both based on food biotechnology and pharmaceutical biotechnology. One of the food and pharmaceutical biotechnology products that can be effective as a source of antioxidants is the butterfly pea flower kombucha preparation. Butterfly pea flower kombucha preparations that are effective as a source of antioxidants certainly have a substrate formula that varies based on the results of their concoctions. The results of previous studies have proven that butterfly pea flower kombucha with a concentration of palm sugar and SR12 honey has activity as a source of antibacterial. Research to see the antioxidant activity that is formulated based on various formulations of palm sugar and SR12 honey substrates. The stages of this research include making butterfly pea flower kombucha with various concentrations of palm sugar and SR12 honey substrates and testing its antioxidant activity on each preparation formulated from the palm sugar and SR12 honey substrate formulation (20%, 30%, and 40%). One-way analysis of variance was applied, followed by post-hoc analysis. Based on the post-hoc analysis, the study showed that butterfly pea flower kombucha at a concentration of 40%, as well as the formula of palm sugar and SR12 honey, showed significant differences from the concentrations of 20% and 30% after testing one-way analysis of variance, with each P value <0.05. The conclusion is that the preparation of butterfly pea flower kombucha based on the use of palm sugar and SR12 honey substrates is efficacious as a source of antioxidants so that in the long term it can be used as a functional food ingredient or pharmaceutical.
