Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kategori dan ekspresi lingustik bidang pertanian Sasak tradisional di pulau Lombok, yang dikaitkan dengan konteks sosio-kultural masyarakat tani setempat. Untuk tujuan tersebut, kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Sementara untuk analisis data digunakan analisis komponen. Analisis dipusatkan pada leksikon dan ekspresi linguistik pada ranah pertanian. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa dalam ranah pertanian itu selalu memunculkan istilah-istilah yang menjadi ekspresi/kategori linguistiknya. Ekspresi linguistik itu berbentuk kategori verba dan nomina. Urutan pengklasifikasian/ pengategorian terhadap ekspresi linguistik—baik nomina maupun verba—pun disesuaikan dengan rangkaian proses aktivitas pertanian dan hasil yang diperoleh. Untuk itu, pengategorisasiaan yang ada didasarkan pada komponen makna generik yang menyesuaikan proses dan hasil—verba dan nomina—dalam ranahnya itu.Kata Kunci: kategori dan ekspresi linguistik, analisis komponensial, etnosemantik.

Abstract

Part of human language in the world has characteristics of accusative syntax, which treats intransitive subject (S) and transitive subject (A) in the same way (unmodified), whereas transitive object (O) is treatd differently (modified). Another part of human language has ergative arrangement, which trears intransitive subject (S) and transitive object (O) in the same way (unmodified), whereas transitive subject (A) is treated differently (modified). In linguistic study in the Indonesian Archipelago, active and passive voice are widely known. Passive voice can be changed into active one and conversely, active voice (transitive) can be changed into passive one. The Indonesian and Sundanese language have also passive voice that is antiactive (cannot be changed into active) and active voice that is antipassive (cannot be changed into passive). These forms are suspected to be "new ergative" form. Key words: accusative, ergative, active, passive, antiactive, antipassive, modified, and unmodified

Abstract

Literary works appreciation can be effectively used to master language competency beside as a means of intercultural understanding. The problem is, not everysecondary school’s teacher realizes it. That is why the writer intended to analysethe teachers’ teaching of English through learning of the literary works appreciation at the senior high school. It was a case study with teachers of English as thesubjects. The research object was the literary works appreciation learning process.The data were gathered by in-depth interviewing and documentation to analyse byusing McDonough & McDonough model. This study found: there was only oneteacher who developed literary works appreciation, it needed 4 meetings with 90minutes for each, the learning materials were facilitated by the teacher, there wasonly one compulsory book to learn, i.e “Lorna and John”, and the activity aimedat assessing the learners’ speaking competence. The writer recommended: all teachers should teach literary works appreciation, develop learners’ appreciative behavior towards English literary works as a vehicle of adapting cultural discrepancies among foreigners, and schools should provide adequate English literary works.Key words: ELT, literary works, appreciation

Abstract

The study describes subordinators indicating temporal relations of equivalenceand sequence in which their existence in compound-complex sentences are obligatory.The distribution method and its five techniques (Immediate Constituent, deletion,permutation, substitution, and expansion) are used to identify the types anddistribution of the subordinators within the Indonesian sentences. The result showsthat subordinators indicating equivalence of temporal relations are saat, ketika,waktu, sewaktu, kala, tatkala, selama, and selagi. Meanwhile, subordinators indicatingsequence of temporal relations are begitu, usai, sesuai, sesudah, selepas, andsehabis. The distribution of the two kinds of subordinators in the cimpound-complexsentences vary; they can be placed initially, medially after the main clause,and after subject of the main clause.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to describe (1) the meaning of song dolanan Java, (2) the values of local knowledge (local wisdom) in songs such as forming the national character, and (3) the renewal of the song is in the context of the formation of the nation’s character. Data in this descriptive qualitative study, collected through a literature review, interviews, and observation, from the sources, texts, and events. Data analysis was performed by inductively interactive models. For the meaning of Java dolanan song used method of reading a model consisting of a semiotic reading of the heuristic and hermeneutic (retroactive). The results showed that: (1) Tembang dolanan Java has the meaning that is loaded with moral messages that are important to the formation of national character, (2) The value of local wisdom in dolanan songs like “Ilir-Ilir”, “Sluku-Sluku Bathok”, “Jaranan “, and others are noble universal values as in the nine pillars of character, (3) the value of local wisdom in the song is worth direaktualisasikan dolanan Java in order to character formation, which according to the nation’s cultural roots. That is an important issue, because our nation is known for friendly, tolerant, polite and religious as the prototype of the proud nation of East and West are contrasted with the selfish, individualistic, hedonistic, and secular, as if living myth. Noble culture of the nation is now experiencing a shift due to the rise of foreign cultures in a global era life. With the expectation that the investment value of local wisdom through song dolanan renewal to be effective, needs to be implemented through the Java language learning (local charge) at the school from elementary, middle to upper.

Abstract

One of the Strategies of Contextual Teaching and Learning is authentic assessment, which can provide valid and accurate information about what students really know and are able to do, or about the quality of educational programs. One of its forms is performance assessment. It requires students to demonstrate the application of knowledge to a particular context. The prevailing philosophy of performance assessment is that it provides ways to improve achievement, demonstrate exactly what a student does or does not understand, relate learning experiences to instruction, and combine assessment with teaching. Despite the benefits, some teachers are hesitant to implement it because they do not have enough knowledge about how to assess a students performance properly. Since in performance assessment there are degrees to which a student is successful or unsuccessful, the performance should be evaluated in such a way that it allows teachers to consider those degrees, that is by creating rubrics. This paper attempts at discussing basic steps in implementing performance assessment in general and developing scoring rubrics in particular.Key words: performance, assessment, scoring rubric, analytic, and holistic

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan Powerpoint dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar dan kemampuan  listening siswa SMP. Masalah yang disoroti pada  penelitian ini adalah motivasi belajar yang rendah dan kemampuan listening kelas VIII.A siswa SMPN 1KlatenTahun pelajaran 2014-2015. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan   dari bulan September  hingga Nopember 2013. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri atas dua siklus.Setiap  siklus terdiri atas empat tahapan penelitian yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, tindakan, pengamatan, dan refleksi.  Deskriptif-komparatif dilakukan dengan membandingkan data kondisi awal, siklus 1 dan siklus 2, baik untuk motivasi belajar siswa maupun kompetensi listening.  Berdasarkan analisis data, diperoleh hasil penelitian sebagai berikut: 1) Motivasi belajar siswa mengalami peningkatan dari skor rerata motivasi belajar dari kondisi awal, siklus 1 dan siklus 2 mengalami peningkatan. Pada siklus 1 rerata skor naik 0,22 yaitu dari 2,79  menjadi 3,01. Pada siklus 2 rerata skor naik 0,49  yaitu dari 3,01 menjadi 3,50,   2)  kompetensi listening materi teks naratif  juga naik  dari  rata-rata 63 menjadi 85, berarti  kompetensi listening 22. Persentase jumlah siswa yang mencapai nilai ≥74  juga meningkat dari 65% pada kondisi awal menjadi 85% pada kondisi akhir, berarti meningkat 20%. Hipotesis  menyatakan bahwa motivasi belajar siswa dan kompetensi listening teks naratif siswa kelas VIII-A  SMP Negeri 1Klaten semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2014/2015 dapat ditingkatkan melalui penerapan teknik presentasi powerpoint dapat diterima.

Abstract

In Indonesian Great Dictionary, both of the words “angry” and “hate” are more or less defined as something uneasy. This definition has actually aroused over- whelming question for in daily use the two words seem to be different. How differ- ent they are can be answered by using the reference of prototype theory which will be applied on the abstract concept for the characteristics of the two words. In this study, the respondents are 42 students of the eight semester of English Depart- ment, UPI. They are presented with open questions to identify the kinds of proto- type and its cognitive model. In addition, they are expected to evaluate the best attribute for the words angry and hate. The result shows that the word “angry” can be physiologically and psychologically identified, while another word, “hate” can only be psychologically identified. Moreover, there is family relateness in their cognitive model. This fact influences the implicit meaning of the two words in the current dictionary. Key words: prototype theory, cognitive model, dan konsep abstrak.

Abstract

Mantra majik nelayan Bajo di Sumbawa berkaitan dengan budaya-budaya lain.Adaptasi linguistiklah yang menekankan penyatuan dan perbedaan sekalipun dalam bentuk kata. Oleh karenanya, hal ini menunjukkan budaya Bajo berubah. Perubahan budaya merupakan suatu pergeseran dari budaya terbuka ke budaya tertutup yang dapat diperlihatkan dari tempat tinggal di laut dan di darat; sehingga sistem pengembara dapat hidup saling berdampingan dengan etnis lain di Nusantara.Kata Kunci: mantra kajik, adaptasi bahasa, transformasi budaya.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the types of transformation replacements in the translation of the Quran which contain language ethics, and analyze their functions. The study involves descriptive qualitative method. The research object is the transformation replacements in the translation of the Quran which contain language ethics and their functions. In obtaining the data, field note and content analysis are applied. The data are analyzed by distributive and comparative techniques. The findings show that the types of transformation replacements in the translation of the Quran which contain language ethics include (1) the replacement of equal syntactic level, and (2) the replacement of smaller syntactic levels, from one to four levels. The transformation replacemnts in the translation of the Quran function to show language ethics including the replacement of linguistic units which clarify the participants (the first, second, and third speakers), and the replacement of linguistic units into shorter forms to make effective sentences.
