Abstract

Inflammation is the basic process by which tissues respond or react to infection, irritation, or other injuries. One of the plants that have the potential as an anti-inflammatory is pacing putih (Costus speciosus (J. Koenig) Sm.). This study aims to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract. The method used was the inhibition of protein denaturation with bovine serum albumin and diclofenac sodium as positive controls. The ethanol extract contains phenolics, flavonoids, and saponins. Anti-inflammatory activity (IC50) of 30.9031 mg/L. The ethanol extract of pacing putih flower has the potential to have anti-inflammatory activity. Keywords: Costus speciosus (J. Abstract

Diabetes melitus (DM) merupakan gangguan metabolisme yang ditandai dengan keadaan hiperglikemia. Hiperglikemia adalah suatu keadaan dimana kadar glukosa dalam darah meningkat drastis. Salah satu terapi farmakologis adalah dengan penggunaan obat-obatan yang dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa dalam darah. Telah dilakukan uji fitokimia dan aktivitas antihiperglikemik dari kulit kayu lai. Kulit batang lai dimaserasi dengan etanol 96 % kemudian dipekatkan dengan rotary evaporator sehingga diperoleh rendemen 1,61% . Berdasarkan hasil uji fitokimia senyawa metabolit sekunder dari kulit lai menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etahanol mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, fenolik, triterpenoid dan saponin. Uji aktivitas antihiperglikemik menggunakan hewan uji mencit jantan yang disuntik aloksan. Pengukuran kadar gula darah menggunakan glukometer dan strip tes glukosa. Dari uji antihiperglikemik menunjukkan bahwa efektivitas kadar gula darah dosis 18 mg/KgBB menunjukkan kadar gula darah 80 mg/dL. Keywords: Lai [Durio kutejensis (Hassk.) Abstract

Blood cholesterol level which were higher than normal is a trigger of various diseases. The objective of the research was to know the anti-hypercholesterol effect of bark African plant. The research about utilization of ethanol extract of bark African plant (Vernonia amygdalina Delile) has been done, it proved could decrease total cholesterol levels in male mice (Mus musculus). In this research sample macerated with ethanol 96% and then concentrated by rotary evaporator, and gained 9,7% of yield. Based on the results of phytochemical test, secondary metabolites compound that contained in bark African plant are alkaloid, flavonoid, triterpenoid, steroid, phenolic and saponin. On antihiperkolesterolemia activity test by using male mice, there are several treatments that negative control (-), positive control (+) and three treatment with different doses i.e. a low doses (7.5 mg/kg BB), middle doses (15 mg/kg BB) and high doses (30 mg/kg BB). The parameter measured was blood serum of male mice by using a Cholesterol Test Strips. From this test it showed that the effectiveness of decreased total cholesterol level at middle doses of 15 mg/kg BB. Abstract

The research about the biosorpsion of hexavalent chromium heavy metal [Cr(VI)] with Streptococcus mutans bacteria has been carried out. Biosorption has been done by exposure of chromium to broth culture, the consentration and optimum time happened on the 4 day with the biosorption percentage of Cr(VI) by Streptococcus mutans bacteria was obtained at a concentration of Cr(VI) 5 ppm, with a percentage of 90.80%. Abstract

A kinetic study of ironwood powder pyrolysis using thermogravimetric analysis has been conducted. This study aims to determine the thermal decomposition process and determine the activation energy value of ironwood powder pyrolysis using the free Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and Friedman models. Pyrolysis in this study used heating rates of 10, 15, 20, and 25 ºC/minute. The active temperature range of ironwood powder pyrolysis was 130.88 – 552.21ºC. The thermal decomposition process occurred in three stages, namely 1. evaporation of water or moisture, 2. active pyrolysis for the decomposition of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin compounds, and 3. passive pyrolysis caused by gasification and the formation of non-volatile carbon compounds which evaporate to form CO and CO2 gases at high temperatures. The average activation energy of the pyrolysis of ironwood powder using the Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) and Friedman methods were 137.34 ± 30.05 kJ/mol and 147.83 ± 36.66 kJ/mol, respectively. Abstract

The compressive strength of concrete is also influenced by the concrete surface itself (capping factor). The capping factor significantly affects the quality values of 15 cm x 30 cm concrete cylinders. In its application, it is expected that we can determine the comparison of concrete compressive strength tests using sulfur capping and lime capping, which is currently uncertain. Therefore, the proof of concrete quality strength with sulfur capping and lime capping for normal concrete with a quality of F'c 25 requires testing the compressive strength values using the UTM Controls machine in the Integrated Laboratory of ITK. The compressive strength testing of concrete quality will be conducted for each sample, consisting of 2 samples each with added sulfur capping and the use of lime capping at the age 14 days, and 28 days. Meanwhile, the mix design for concrete uses the SNI method. The test results show that sulfur capping experiences an increase of 0.19%, while when concrete uses lime capping, there is an increase of 0.7%. Keywords: capping, concrete lime, sulfur

Abstract

Red melinjo skin or Gnetum gnemon has the potential to be used as an alternative natural dye because it has an attractive color due to the presence of carotenoid anthocyanin pigments, a derivative of terpenoid compounds. Carotenoids can be used as natural dyes in blush stick preparations. Melinjo peel was extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol and citric acid and after that it was tested for phytochemical screening and extract characterization. The blush on stick base formulation consists of several components including carnauba wax, candelilla wax, talcum, oleum ricini, methyl paraben, BHT, tween 80. color and scent. The base of the blush stick preparation is quite stable, homogeneous, pH 3.8-4.7 (close to skin pH), in accordance with the criteria of SNI 16-479-1998, easy to apply with an even color, and very homogeneous formulation when applied to hands. Abstract

This mini review will explore the multifunctional of ZnO nanomaterials. ZnO The multifunctional ZnO nanomaterial due to its inexpensive nature, eco-friendly, structure-dependent properties, and complete mineralization of pollutants make them more efficient semiconducting photocatalysts than other materials and good UV absorption. ZnO has many applications in everyday life such as for photocatalysts, antibacterials, edible coatings, and others. Based on the literature review, ZnO material can be synthesized using sol-gel, hydrothermal, solvothermal, precipitation and coprecipitation methods. So, this article reviews the recent developments in the degradation of Methylene Blue and Rhodamine B, which are cationic dyes, by examining operational parameters such as reaction time, initial dye concentration, and catalyst concentration. Abstract

Pyrolysis of meranti sawdust (Shorea spp) with Ni/SBA-15 catalyst at 350°C, 450°C and 550°C using the pyrolysis-Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) technique was carried out. This research was conducted to determine the pyrolysis product and the chemical composition of the pyrolysis product of meranti sawdust catalyzed by Ni/SBA-15 (20%wt.%). Based on the area percentage of products identified on the pyrogram, the chemical compositions of the pyrolysis product of meranti wood were 32.4%-43.6% products derived from cellulose/hemicellulose and 32.7%-23.3% products derived from lignin. The addition of Ni/SBA-15 catalyst to the pyrolysis of meranti sawdust increased the formation of cellulose/hemicellulose derivative products such as furan and furfural, as well as lignin derivative products such as vanillin. However, increasing the concentration of the catalyst also improved the amount of acetic acid, which is potentially corrosive and detrimental. Abstract

Singkil leaves (Premna corymbose Roxb & Willd.) are a plant that is widely found in Kalimantan, and usually grows in the yard of houses or plantations. A research on phytochemicals screening and antioxidant activity test of singkil leaves (Premna corymbose Roxb & Willd.) using DPPH (1,1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method had been conducted. Test for alkaloids, triterpenoids/steroids, phenolic, flavonoids, saponins, and quinone were included in phytochemical screening. The results of the literature show that the methanol extract exhibits antioxidant activity in the strong category, which has an IC50 value of 20.66 μg/ml.
