Abstract

One of the causes of low student learning outcomes is the lack of student interest in chemistry learning. This is also due to students' disinterest in reading chemistry textbooks provided by the school. This study was aimed to obtain feasibility, effectiveness, teacher and student responses to flip-based chemistry illustration on equilibrium of acid and base ions. The research method used was research & development (R&D) with a 4D model which consists of 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research was conducted at the XI-F class SMA Negeri 2 Percut Sei Tuan. The results showed that flip-based chemical illustration books met the good criteria. Evaluation of the feasibility of flip-based chemical illustration books by material experts with an average percentage of 78 percent in the feasible category and 75 percent from media experts in the feasible category. Meanwhile, based on the N-Gain score of 0.62 in the moderate category, flip-based chemistry illustration books was found to be effective in improving student learning outcomes. Overall, the response of the chemistry teacher and students gave a positive response to flip-based chemistry illustration books with a percentage of 100 85, respectively. This study concluded that flip-based chemistry illustration book on equlibirium of acid and base ions was feasible to apply in chemistry learning. Abstract

Traditional medicine is a supplement that can help maintain a healthy body which is produced from ingredients or ingredients derived from plants, so that it is still in great demand by the public because it is considered safe. Traditional medicinal preparations themselves are not allowed to contain Medicinal Chemicals (BKO). However, along with the increasing public interest, this has led to the circulation of traditional medicines containing BKO in order to obtain products with the fastest/ most effective effects. One of the chemical drugs that are often found are coffeine and paracetamol. This study aims to identify the medicinal chemicals of coffeine and paracetamol in traditional medicine using a solid phase extraction method which is then followed by high performance liquid chromatography with a photo diode array detector. The results obtained were that the coffeine standard produced a retention time of 5.791 with a wavelength of 206 nm and 272 nm while the paracetamol standard produced a retention time of 4.372 with a wavelength of 196 nm and 246 nm. The results of the analysis showed that the samples in the form of traditional medicines did not contain the medicinal chemicals coffeine and paracetamol Keywords: Coffeina, Paracetamol, Medicinal Chemicals, Traditional Medicine

Abstract

Uncaria is a genus of plants that grows in the Kalimantan forest. Many species in this genus are used as traditional medicines, so this genus is interesting to be studied for its chemical compound content. One species in this genus is Uncaria cordata which is also known as Bajakah plant. The aim of this study was to determine the content of secondary metabolite compounds and the level of toxicity of the ethanol extract of U. cordata stems on Artemia salina L. The methods used in this research were extraction, phytochemical tests and toxicity test using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. The results of the phytochemical test showed that the ethanol extract of U. cordata stems contained alkaloids, triterpenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, quinones, and saponins. Furthermore, according to of the toxicity test showed that the ethanol extract of U. cordata stems had toxicity level of 75.03 ppm in the toxic category (LC50 < 1000 ppm). Based on these results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of U. cordata stems has the potential to have bioactivity because it is toxic to Artemia salina L. shrimp larvae. Abstract

Research on the determination of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) heavy metal contamination levels using the GFA-AAS method has been carried out in food samples. The aim of this study was to determine the levels of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) metal contamination so that they do not exceed the threshold limit set according to the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency Regulation No. 9 of 2022. The research was carried out by destroying the sample using HNO3(p) and H2O2(p) into microwave. Additions were made of matrix modifiers (mixture of Mg(NO3)2. 6H2O in 0,5% HNO3 and 1% NH4H2PO4 in 0,5% HNO3 (1:1)). Determination of heavy metal content in food was determined by the Carbon Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (GFA-AAS) method with a wavelength of 283.3 nm for lead (Pb) and 228.8 nm for cadmium (Cd). The results of measuring the levels of heavy metal lead (Pb) contamination in food samples were 0,016 mg/kg and 0,015 mg/kg for the heavy metal cadmium (Cd). Based on the Regulation of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency No 9 of 2022 concerning Requirements for Heavy Metal Contamination in Processed Foods, the maximum limit for metal contamination of lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in processed food is 0,30 mg/kg, where the results obtained do not exceed threshold, so that the sample is fit for consumption. Abstract

Electrodecolorization of liquid waste from Samarinda Seberang woven sarong industry using PbO2/Pb electrode was to reduce the dye content of Samarinda Seberang woven sarong waste by electrodecolorization method using lead (Pb) as cathode and lead dioxide (PbO2) as anode. Electrodecolorization of Direk orange and green dyes was carried out by varying the working potential, electrolyte concentration, time and dye concentration. The optimum condition of the Direk orange dye solution is using a working potential of 12 volts, 0.2 M Na2SO4 electrolyte concentration for 15 minutes and the Direk green dye solution is at a working potential of 10.5 volts, 0.2 M Na2SO4 electrolyte concentration for 15 minutes. The percentage of decolorization of the waste liquid sample of the Samarinda orange woven sarong industry using the PbO2/Pb electrode at the maximum condition is 99.58% and the percentage of decolorization of the waste liquid sample of the Samarinda green woven sarong industry using the PbO2/Pb electrode at the maximum condition is 98.46%. Abstract

Melinjo leaves (Gnetum gnemon L.) and Star Fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) is a plant that can be used as traditional medicine. Melinjo leaves contain alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phenols, flavonoids, triterpenoids and steroids. Star fruit contains alkaloids, flavonoids and triterpenoids. These compounds function as antioxidants to counteract free radicals. The purpose of this study was to determine the secondary metabolites and determine the antioxidant activity of the combination of 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves and star fruit. The simplicia powder was extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol solvent, then a phytochemical test was carried out, after which the single antioxidant test and the combination of extracts were tested at a ratio of 1:3, 3:1, 1:1 with concentration series 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 ppm, the determination of antioxidants was carried out using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) by measuring the absorbance of DPPH at a wavelength of 515 nm. The results of this study indicate that the value of IC50 for the ethanol extract of melinjo leaves was 7.86 μg/mL, the ethanol extract of star fruit was 33.70 μg/mL and the IC50 value from each combination of ethanol extract of melinjo leaves and star fruit at a ratio of 1:3 obtained 32.1 μg/mL, a ratio of 3:1 obtained 5.91 μg/mL and a ratio of 1:1 obtained 19.49 μg /mL. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the antioxidant activity of the combination of 70% ethanol extract of melinjo leaves and star fruit in a ratio of 3:1 has an IC50 value the best was 5.91 μg/mL which was included in the very strong category.
