Abstract

Due to the limitation of slum dweller’s residence, they use public spaces for their daily activities. One kind of them  is a park. Public space used for various kinds of activities by slum dwellers is called a multifunction public space. Utilization of multifunction public space can potentially lead to spatial use conflict which interfere with its functional sustainability. The aim of this research was to identify the level of sustainability of the utilization of a multifunction public space in the slum area. This research used a quantitative approach and a questionnaires survey method. Respondents were slum dwellers using the park. The total respondents was 96 by using the Lemeshow formula. The results showed that there were differences in the level of sustainability among three parks. The highest level of sustainable utilization is Pendongkelan, the medium level is Melati Indah, and the lowest level is Taman Anggrek. There were four aspects of sustainability which were measured. Diversity and harmony were two aspects determining sustainability. For sustainability of spatial utilization of the multifunction public space in the slum area need management to take care of the size of the park, the availability of park amenities, and its accessibility.

Abstract

Local governments frequently use place branding strategies to enhance regional competitiveness. One example is the Municipality of Bandung that attempted to brand Cibadak Area as Bandung’s Chinatown. The process of communication of the brand is the most important process in the effort to place branding. It is expected that the process can construct a brand image that is in accordance with the expectation of the government. It is argued that the process of communication the brand can be explained by the production of space, as the spatial production that occurs is able to construct a brand image that is accepted by society. This study aims to determine the space production process that has implications for brand image in Cibadak Area. This study uses qualitative method analysis. Based on this research, it is identified that there is a difference between the citizens perspective and the plan which is imagined by the government. This matter shows that there is a difference between brand image received by the community and brand identity desired by the government.

Abstract

Anthropogenic hazards are hazards arising from human actions or negligences. Anthropogenic hazards can affect both human and the broader ecosystem and various landforms. Waste as the effect of human activity is a big problem in urban areas related to the difficulty of waste management while waste production continues to increase. The impact of poor waste management in the city is a potential anthropogenic hazard for the region. Part of the city that often receives less attention related to waste or environmental sanitation and has been negatively affected by waste is the coastal area in a big city, which is kind of fluvio-marine landform unit, one of which is Muara Angke, which is the study area of this research. Identification of the waste disposal site is carried out to determine the level of anthropogenic hazard posed by waste in the area. With very high spatial resolution obtained by aerial remote sensing data, identification of objects in urban areas such as waste disposal site can be conducted. The purpose of this study is to identify the waste disposal site in part of Muara Angke region and to identify the potential of anthropogenic hazard caused by waste in the area. The data used is the LSU (LAPAN Surveillance UAV) camera data. The method proposed in this research is visual interpretation LSU camera data. The result showed that waste disposal location  can be performed using aerial remote sensing data and visual interpretation to the data.

Abstract

The economy as an indicator of the development of the Province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) becomes important to understand its relationship with activity level of the industrial sector in supporting the economic wheel. This study objectives are to determine the current development optimization to project economic improvement in the province of NTT by utilizing the local potential of renewable energy (RE) in order to support the Indonesian National Energy Policy (INEP) through implementation of the Long-range Energy Alternative Planning (LEAP) system for the period 2015 to 2030 with existing industrial sub-sectors in the province with integrated of operating systems and energy systems assessments. The results show that the largest primary energy use is the food and beverage industry, while the largest secondary energy consumption is from the cement industry, due to government efforts to boost large-scale industries. The mix of electric energy sourced from RE showed a drastic increase up to 2030, which amounted to 19.05% compared to other types of energy while achieving the INEP target, namely the utilization of RE as much as possible and minimizing oil use, then optimizing gas use. Thus, the economy of NTT Province is currently still adequate to optimize the use and utilization of long-term RE.

Abstract

The urban renewal approach is generally carried out with both physical and economic appoach. A community-based development/urban renewal approach is used for long-term results, therefore it is rarely done. Community based urban renewal study is very important because the impact is more sustainable. Urban renewal of red-light district Putat Jaya Surabaya is carried out to resolve the pressure and social economic change, which is the closing of Dolly and Jarak (Putat Jaya). The Government of Surabaya has been using a community based approach in conducting the renewal, but in doing so the Government of Surabaya has no reference, especially the know-how mechanism of a community based development. This study aims to evaluate and formulate a community-based urban renewal mechanism, so that it can be a reference in the implementation of urban renewal. The results showed that the efforts made by the Surabaya of Government had not fully met the principles of community-based urban renewal where the community had a central role in the preparation and implementation of plans and monitoring of the results of urban renewal in a participatory manner.
