Abstract

Purpose: This study reconstructs transformational leadership as a strategic approach to strengthening employee engagement and improving the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). It addresses a theoretical gap by examining how transformational leadership should adapt to contemporary MSME environments characterized by uncertainty, digital transformation, and intensified competition.Design/Methodology/Approach: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Relevant studies were retrieved from the Dimensions.ai database using predefined Boolean search strategies. After screening based on PICOS criteria, seven peer-reviewed articles published between 2024 and 2026 were selected. Data were analyzed using thematic synthesis and deductive content analysis.Findings: The review indicates that transformational leadership positively affects organizational outcomes, including business growth, service performance, and sustainability, while its direct impact on individual employee performance is often insignificant. Employee engagement emerges as the primary mediating mechanism linking transformational leadership to organizational performance. The findings further suggest that contemporary MSMEs require leadership capabilities beyond traditional transformational dimensions, including organizational agility, digital responsiveness, psychological safety, adaptive decision-making, and employee empowerment. Accordingly, this study proposes a reconstructed transformational leadership framework integrating classical leadership principles with these contemporary capabilities.Practical Implications: The proposed framework provides guidance for MSME leaders in strengthening employee engagement and organizational performance through adaptive leadership, strategic human resource management, psychological empowerment, and organizational flexibility.Originality/Value: This study offers a reconstructed transformational leadership framework tailored to contemporary MSMEs, contributing a novel theoretical perspective for enhancing employee engagement and sustainable organizational performance.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of social media marketing and electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) on purchasing decisions for Hanasui products.Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative approach was employed using purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 100 Hanasui consumers aged at least 17 years who use Instagram, have visited the Hanasui Instagram account, and have purchased Hanasui products at least once. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed via Google Forms using a five-point Likert scale and analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 27.Findings: The results show that social media marketing has a positive but insignificant effect on purchasing decisions. In contrast, e-WOM has a positive and significant effect, indicating that consumer reviews and recommendations play a more important role in influencing purchases. Simultaneously, social media marketing and e-WOM significantly affect purchasing decisions.Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to Hanasui consumers and a sample of 100 respondents. Future research should involve larger samples and additional variables.Practical implications: Companies should focus on encouraging positive e-WOM to strengthen consumer purchasing decisions.Originality/value: This study provides empirical evidence on the relative influence of social media marketing and e-WOM on cosmetic product purchasing decisions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of Work From Anywhere (WFA) and Work-Life Balance (WLB) on employee performance, utilizing Achievement Motivation as a mediating variable within the digital hospitality workforce.Methodology:  This quantitative research employs a causal approach. Primary data was gathered online via a semantic scale questionnaire from a simple random sample of 100 independent digital agents in East Java, Indonesia. The structural paths and mediation mechanisms were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) via SmartPLS.Findings: The empirical results reveal that WFA exerts a positive and significant effect on both performance and achievement motivation. Conversely, WLB exhibits no significant impact on either outcome. Achievement Motivation positively drives performance and significantly mediates the structural path from WFA to performance, but fails to bridge the relationship between WLB and performance.Research limitations/implications: The study is geographically limited to 100 respondents in East Java. Future research should expand the sample size across broader regions and explore additional mediating variables related to modern remote work dynamics.Practical implications: Corporate management and industry policymakers should optimize WFA protocols as an operational driver for productivity. Concurrently, firms must critically re-evaluate the conceptual framing and implementation of WLB initiatives to yield tangible strategic benefits among independent commissions-based actors.Originality/value: This paper offers novel empirical insights by positioning achievement motivation as a vital psychological mechanism within flexible work designs, specifically bridging the gap between remote working arrangements and gig economy dynamics within the emerging digital hospitality ecosystems.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational culture and employee commitment on employee performance, explicitly evaluating the pivotal role of job satisfaction as an intervening variable at PT. Bumi Menara Internusa, Kwanyar Branch. Design/methodology/approach: Employing a quantitative research method, data collection was conducted via structured questionnaires distributed to participants. Random sampling was utilized in this study, resulting in a final sample size of 75 respondents. Data analysis was systematically performed using multiple linear regression tests within SPSS 25 software. Findings: The empirical results indicate that organizational culture and employee commitment do not directly impact employee performance. However, job satisfaction significantly affects employee performance. Furthermore, job satisfaction significantly alters the influence of organizational culture on employee performance, whereas it does not significantly change the impact of employee commitment on employee performance. Research limitations/implications: The primary limitation stems from the narrow sample scope of 75 participants restricted to a single regional branch. Future research should extend this framework across broader geographical regions and multiple industry sectors to verify the generalizability of these findings. Practical implications: Practitioners and entrepreneurs should prioritize enhancing direct job satisfaction elements rather than relying solely on abstract corporate culture or baseline employee commitment, as satisfaction serves as the primary mechanism driving worker performance and organizational transformation. Originality/value: This study provides valuable empirical insights into human resource dynamics by demonstrating that job satisfaction functions as an essential, foundational catalyst required to activate performance within manufacturing environments

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of profit-sharing patterns, income, and time spent at sea on the welfare of fishermen and boat owners in Labuhan Village, Sreseh District, Sampang Regency. The study addresses whether these factors individually and simultaneously influence the welfare of fishery business actors.Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research design with a survey approach was employed. Data were collected using questionnaires administered to 71 respondents, comprising 37 fishermen and 34 boat owners directly involved in the profit-sharing system. Statistical analysis was used to test the partial and simultaneous effects of profit-sharing patterns, income, and time spent at sea on welfare.Findings: The results indicate that profit-sharing patterns do not significantly affect the welfare of fishermen and boat owners. In contrast, income and time spent at sea have significant positive effects on welfare. Higher and more stable income improves the fulfillment of basic needs, while longer fishing duration potentially increases catches despite higher risks and operational costs. Simultaneously, income and time spent at sea significantly contribute to welfare improvement.Research limitations/implications: The study is limited to a single coastal area with a relatively small sample size. Future research should include broader geographic coverage and additional variables affecting welfare.Practical implications: Policies aimed at enhancing small-scale productivity and stabilizing income streams can significantly uplift the economic resilience of coastal communities. Furthermore, formalizing micro-business partnerships between boat owners and fishermen is crucial for long-term entrepreneurial sustainability in coastal ecosystems.Social implications: Improved welfare can strengthen the socioeconomic conditions and sustainability of coastal communities.Originality/value: This study offers novel empirical insights into coastal entrepreneurship by evaluating how traditional profit-sharing arrangements operate as rigid social institutions rather than dynamic economic incentives, thereby shifting the discourse toward institutional sustainability and resource allocation efficiency in emerging artisanal fisheries.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the partial and simultaneous effects of work environment and work motivation on employee performance at the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Bangkalan Regency.Design/Methodology/Approach: This study employs a quantitative correlational approach. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 48 employees of the public order and community tranquility division using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS.Findings: The results indicate that the work environment has no significant effect on employee performance, whereas work motivation has a significant positive effect. Simultaneously, work environment and work motivation significantly influence employee performance, explaining 45.2% of its variance. These findings suggest that intrinsic motivational factors play a more critical role than physical workplace conditions in determining employee performance within public-sector enforcement institutions.Research Limitations/Implications: This study is limited to a single public-sector institution and a relatively small sample size, restricting the generalizability of the findings. Future studies should include broader samples and additional variables, such as leadership style, organizational commitment, and job satisfaction.Practical Implications: Public-sector managers and policymakers should prioritize strategies that strengthen employee motivation through recognition systems, equitable incentives, and career development opportunities to improve organizational performance.Social Implications: Enhanced employee performance in public order institutions may contribute to better public service delivery and increased public trust in local government institutions.Originality/Value: This study contributes to public-sector management literature by demonstrating that intrinsic motivational mechanisms outweigh physical work-environment factors in shaping employee performance within public order enforcement organizations.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effects of macroeconomic variables, namely inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates, on the financial performance of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2020–2024 period. The study seeks to determine the partial and simultaneous impacts of these variables on Return on Assets (ROA).Design/methodology/approach: This study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from manufacturing companies listed on the IDX. Macroeconomic data on inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates were analyzed in relation to firms’ financial performance measured by ROA. Multiple regression analysis was applied to examine both partial and simultaneous effects of the independent variables.Findings: The results indicate that inflation has a negative and significant effect on ROA, suggesting that rising inflation pressures company profitability through increased input costs. Interest rates have no significant effect on ROA, implying that changes in benchmark rates have not substantially affected corporate profitability. In contrast, the exchange rate has a positive and significant effect on ROA, indicating that rupiah depreciation benefits export-oriented firms through higher foreign exchange revenues. Simultaneously, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates significantly affect ROA, with an Adjusted R Square of 30.1%.Research limitations/implications: The study focuses exclusively on manufacturing companies in Indonesia during the 2020–2024 period. Future studies may incorporate additional macroeconomic and firm-specific variables to enhance explanatory power.Practical implications: The findings provide insights for managers and investors in assessing the impact of macroeconomic conditions on corporate profitability and financial strategies.Originality/value: This study contributes empirical evidence regarding the role of inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates in shaping the financial performance of Indonesian manufacturing firms in the post-pandemic period.
