Abstract

The phenomenon of Quarter Life Crisis (QLC) has become a significant challenge for Generation Z (Gen Z) employees, particularly those working in lower-middle sectors, such as couriers at J&T Buduran Branch. This crisis is characterized by confusion, career uncertainty, and emotional pressure, which can affect their performance and well-being. One strategy to cope with this condition is through self-disclosure. This study aims to analyze the role of self-disclosure using the Johari Window theory approach in helping Gen Z employees at J&T Buduran deal with QLC. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation involving five employees at J&T Buduran Branch aged 20–27 years. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, with validation through source and method triangulation. The results show that most employees feel comfortable sharing their experiences with trusted colleagues (open area). However, some choose to hide their feelings for fear of being perceived as weak (hidden area). Several employees became aware of their shortcomings through feedback from supervisors or coworkers (blind area), while work challenges helped them discover previously unknown potentials (unknown area). In conclusion, self-disclosure plays an important role in managing the emotional pressures caused by QLC. Therefore, it is recommended that companies create a more supportive work environment to encourage employee self-disclosure. Future research may explore other factors influencing QLC, such as work culture and organizational policies

Abstract

Abstract

The contestation of presidential elections in Indonesia is inseparable from the evolving political dynamics, including the 2024 election, which was marked by the widespread use of political gimmicks. All presidential and vice-presidential candidates employed light, casual, and entertaining communication strategies rather than conveying their visions, missions, and policy programs substantively. This phenomenon poses a risk of diminishing the quality of democracy, as political contests tend to favor candidates who can emotionally engage the public rather than those who offer concrete solutions to national issues. This study aims to examine the impact of political gimmicks on the quality of political communication and to propose strategic responses to this trend. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed through a literature review, utilizing sources from scholarly articles and online news platforms. The findings indicate that political gimmicks were predominantly targeted at young voters, who constituted the majority demographic in the 2024 election, making them an effective yet risky campaign tool. Political gimmicks have been shown to obscure political substance, erode democratic values, and hinder the development of a civil society. Therefore, concrete measures are necessary, such as strengthening public political education, utilizing social media as a platform for idea-based contestation, and fostering a collective commitment among candidates, voters, and state institutions to build ethical, transformative, and welfare-oriented political communication.

Abstract

This study examines the song Parung Panjang Pride by Istantos through the lens of critical discourse analysis, aiming to uncover how discourse in music can serve as a form of social critique. The song reflects the concerns of a member of the Parung Panjang community, voicing resistance against both local and national policymakers. It functions as a cultural response to marginalization caused by extractive industries and state negligence. Using Van Dijk’s model of critical discourse analysis, this research is grounded in a critical paradigm as well as concepts of music as discourse. The analysis focuses on three dimensions: text structure, social cognition, and social context. At the textual level, the lyrics juxtapose local pride with suffering caused by destructive mining operations. Istantos employs grounded, accessible language to portray environmental damage, social tensions, and community despair, while also affirming collective resistance through symbolic expression. In the social cognition dimension, the songwriter identifies as part of an oppressed yet resilient community, with an ideological belief in hip-hop as a vehicle for protest. At the level of social context, the song critiques power imbalances between residents, the government, and corporations. It highlights delayed infrastructure projects, weak law enforcement, and the socio-political neglect of Parung Panjang.

Abstract

No Other Land is a film with a message of peace to the world about the humanitarian conflict between the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and the residents of Masafer Yatta in Palestine. The film records the five-year journey of the Masafer Yatta residents against the IDF until they were expelled from their hometown. This study aims to determine the form of illocutionary speech acts during the five years between the IDF and the residents of Masafer Yatta recorded in the film No Other Land. This study uses a qualitative approach by collecting data through dialogue transcripts in film scenes showing the interaction of the IDF with the residents of Masafer Yatta and analyzing them using John Searle's illocutionary speech acts. The study found 63 illocutionary speech acts. 30 utterances from the IDF in the form of 20 directives, 8 declaratives, and 2 commissives. While 33 utterances from the Masafer Yatta community consist of 15 assertives, 11 expressives, 2 commissives, 2 declaratives, and 3 directives. IDF utterances are dominated by directive and declarative speech acts to control and shape legal reality. In contrast, the Masafer Yatta community predominantly uses assertive and expressive speech acts as symbolic resistance to assert their existence, history, and right to life.

Abstract

This study aims to the role of prophetic journalism in Islamic media with a focus on the Nursyam Centre (NSC) as one of the important actors in voicing religious moderation in Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study examines how prophetic journalistic principles based on prophetic values such as humanization, liberation, and transcendence are implemented in the narratives and content produced by the NSC. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with NSC contributors, as well as document analysis of digital content published on www.nursyamcentre.com website. The data analysis technique used refers to the principles of prophetic journalism as developed by Kuntowijoyo, namely humanization (amar ma'ruf), liberation (nahi munkar) and transcendence (monotheism). The results of the study show that the NSC actively produces Islamic content that promotes interfaith dialogue, tolerance, and rejection of extremism. NSC also positions itself as an alternative public space that integrates journalism with cultural da'wah values based on local wisdom. This study concludes that prophetic journalism applied by the NSC is not only a means of disseminating information, but also an instrument of social transformation and public education in building a moderate, inclusive, and contextual understanding of Islam. The Nursyam Center is an example of how religious media, without sacrificing journalistic quality, can become a place for da'wah that is educational, liberating, and spiritual. Their content gave birth to Islamic media rahmatan lil'alamin in the digital era.

Abstract

Identity politics, such as ethnicity, religion, and local traditions, are often exploited to win political competition. Social media platforms like Instagram have become strategic media for building image and mobilizing support through visual content. This study examines the construction of political hyperreality by two official mayoral candidate accounts, namely @achmadamiraslichin and @cakband1, on the Instagram platform using Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation theory approach. By packaging visual posts, this couple creates a "hyperreality" that reinforces the narrative that they are the ideal choice for the people of Sidoarjo. This research aims to analyze the commodification of cultural Islamic identity in the local political contestation in Sidoarjo through the digital space, namely the Instagram platform during the Sidoarjo 2024 regional election. This research is a type of qualitative study using analysis through the theoretical perspective of Baudrillard. The Instagram platform, dominated by users of productive age (25–34 years), has become an arena for political simulation where visual images are more influential than actual programs. The implication is that identity politics on social media not only commodifies religion but also has the potential to trigger polarization, especially among young voters with limited digital literacy. This study shows that the 2024 Sidoarjo regional election is undergoing a digital transformation, where both candidates are utilizing cultural Islamic identity to build a religious image and closeness with voters, particularly Nahdliyyin residents.

Abstract

The increasing public engagement in the 2024 Garut regional election campaign for the Syakur-Putri pair reflects a shift in how the public responds to local political communication. This campaign was conducted through two main channels: direct interactions such as community visits and field outreach, and massive digital campaigning via social media targeting young voters and marginalized groups. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Syakur-Putri political campaign in fostering public engagement through the four dimensions of the Situational of Publics theory: problem recognition, constraint recognition, level of involvement, and referent criterion. A descriptive qualitative method was employed using observation, literature review, documentation, and in-depth interviews with the core campaign team, local media observers, and political party representatives. The results show that the campaign successfully mobilized the public from passive awareness to active participation. High levels of engagement were influenced by information transparency, responsive digital interaction, and the candidates’ simple and authentic image. The problem recognition dimension indicated that the public identified real issues such as infrastructure, education, and gender empowerment. In constraint recognition, external barriers were addressed through inclusive communication. The level of involvement reflected strong offline and online participation. Lastly, the referent criterion revealed strong social identification with the local values represented by the candidates. A communication strategy grounded in local narratives and relational approaches proved to be the key to campaign effectiveness at the regional level.
