EMPIRISMA (P-ISSN: 1829-9563, E-ISSN: 2503-1694) is a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Social Sciences, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. It mainly focuses on religious studies under three main categories: religion and theology, religion and contemporary issues, and religion and sacred texts. To reach wider audience and readership, articles in this journal are using two main languages: Indonesian and English. All the submitted articles are blindly peer-reviewed and carefully edited according to academic standards. This journal is published biannually in January and July.

Abstract

This study is based on library research examines the discourse of fiqh reform in view of Gamal al-Banna. Gamal al-Banna is one of the younger brothers of Hasan al-Banna. This study has  some questions: first, what is Gamal al-Banna’s opinion; second, how social and political biography that covers the life of Gamal al-Banna; third, how their relevance to the development of jurisprudence in Indonesia. By the qualitative research methods, analytical content, historical approach and content analysis are used to investigate the books related in gaining datas of Gamal al-Banna’s thought, while historical approach try to investigate how scope and biographies are in the neighborhood of Gamal al-Banna. The results of this study are: first, Gamal al-Banna reforms fiqh more moderate than his brother Hassan al-Banna; secondly, to know Gamal al-Banna's life biography; and third, determine its relevance to the development of Fiqh reform in Indonesia. Kata Kunci : Fikih, Pembaharuan, Gamal, Relevansi

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has a diversity of religion, culture and language gives rights to its citizens to embrace religion as a faith embraced. Religion is believed and obeyed all the rules and orders by someone adherents of both ritual, as well as ties with what he believed. Indonesia consists of diverse cultures served as local wisdom inherent in society. Then, along with the entry and fused Islam as a religion is able to make local knowledge as a means of propaganda and intermediary for the achievement of success in spreading Islam. This indicates that the synergy between local knowledge and religious rituals because in practice these two things are always side by side as the expression of a civilized society. As done by the villagers of Panjaitan Imogiri located inside the cemetery of the Kings Imogiri, for local residents drained ceremony conducted kong surrounding communities considered to be a sacred ceremony contains blessings for their lives. Abstract

Soekarno was one of the figures of the National movement that fought against the Dutch. He played a very important role in advancing the nation of Indonesia. Soekarno also joined the Sarekat Muhammadiyah. His encounter with the founder of Sarekat Muhammadiyah began when he was in Surabaya. When he was exiled to Bengkulu, the Sarekat Muhammadiyah was used as a means of fighting for the Indonesian nation. One of his role in Muhammadiyah in Bengkulu was eradicated the customs of Muhammadiyah people in putting restrictions on men and women when conducting meetings. He also established a conference of Daeratul Kubro in the Sumatra region, in addition to creating PEKOPE (War Victims Assistance) in order to welcome Japan to Japan Indonesia. This is a library research using a historical research method consisting of heuristics while thedata was obtained by referring to an autiobiography of Soekarno entitled Soekarno Penyambung Lidah Rakyat Indonesia. This research found that Soekarno made some contributions to the development of Muhammadiyah in Bengkulu through initiatives that he made in efforts to struggle for the Indonesia’s independence.Keywords: Soekarno, Indonesia’s Independence, Muhammadiyah, Bengkulu

Abstract

This paper aims at discussing about knowledge (‘al-‘ilm) and scholar (al-‘ālim) in the Qur’an with a focus on their etymological meanings, classification and interpretation (tafsīr). In addition, it examines the words of verses related to al-‘ilm and al-ālim, being analyzed by the theory of Qur’anic exegesis, especially tafsīr mauḍū’ī. It faund that the al-‘ilm is a real knowledge on an object in accordance with its conditions and characters. Al- ’ilm can be divided into two types, i.e. kasbī (gained knowledge) and ladunnī or mawhibah (gifted knowledge).Keywords: Knowledge, Tafsīr, ‘Ulamā’

Abstract

Khilafah dan imamah adalah dua terma yang terkadang diartikan sama, yaitu mengacu kepada makna kepemimpinan. istilah khilafah lebih banyak dikenal dipakai untuk mengistilahkan kepemimpinan di dunia Islam Sunni, sedangkan imamah lebih banyak dipakai di dunia Islam Syi’ah. Khalifah dipilih oleh rakyat ataupun Ahl al-Hill wa al-Aqd, dan ini bersifat ijtihadi. Adapun Imam adalah merupakan ketetapan Tuhan yang dititipkan kepada Nabi untuk menentukan penerusnya. Kemudian penentuan selanjutnya ditunjuk oleh Imam sebelumnya sesuai dengan wasiat yang diterimanya.Artikel ini merupakan penelitian pustaka yang membahas tetntang konsep imamah dalam perspektif syi’ah imamiyah. Tujuan artikel ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui perkembangan politik di kalangan Syi’ah yang berujung pada konsep imamah sebagaimana yang bisa disaksikan sampai hari ini. Potret Iran sebagai negara yang dengan terang-terangan mengusung mazhab Syi’ah sebagai ciri khas ketatanegaraannya adalah bukti kongkrit yang menarik untuk dikaji dan dicermati.Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa wilayat al-faqih yang dicetuskan oleh Imam Khomeinipasca Revolusi Islam Iran adalah bentuk pemerintahan Islam yang dipimpin oleh seorang faqih yang adil dan kapabel dalam menuntun umat.Model kepemimpinan faqih ini yang hingga sekarang tetap eksis di Negara Republik Islam Iran adalah bentuk perpaduan antara demokrasi dan pandangan agama. Sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa wilayat al-faqih ini sebagai percontohan bahwa politik dan agama bisa bersandingan dalam menuntun umat manusia secara umum dan umat Islam secara khusus. Kata kunci: imamah, wilayat al-faqih dan syi’ah imamiyah.

Abstract

The prophet Lut was one of the prophets whom Allah told several times in al-Qur’an. In the same story, there are indications that Allah tells the story over and over again with a different intrinsic element. Findings about the similarities and differences in the intrinsic elements in the telling of the story of the Prophet Lut will be useful for the process of interpreting al-Qur’an specifically to understand the context of the Prophet Lut’s story.In addition, comparative research so far is in the form of intertextual studies, there has not been any research on the comparison of the intrinsic elements of the same story but it is repeated. So this paper will compare the intrinsic elements of the story of the Prophet Lut between letters in al-Quran. Using intrinsic element theory, namely identifying the plot, characterization, setting, point of view and theme of each letter that tells the storyof the Prophet Lut and then comparing them. With a qualitative approach from the source of al-Qur’an. The results show that differences occur in the plot, characterization, and setting. But the same is the theme and perspective. The differences occur not because the stories in al-Qur’an are contradictory, but because there are variations in the instrumental elements that serve to provide beauty, emphasis and psychological effects. For the interpretation of the verse of the story, in addition to understanding the meaning of the text, context, related science, and development science, it is also necessary to understand the intrinsic elements of the story because the differences in the presentation of the intrinsic elements are related to the intent of the message to be conveyed in the verse.Keywords: Comparison of Story, Intrinsic Elements, The Story of the Prophet Lut

Abstract

This article is aimed to figure out the significant position of Hadis in the midst of contemporary discourse of Islamic legal theory in general, or in Ushul Fiqh in specific, on which Al Quran and Sunnah were based for law determination. In the history of Islamic development, there have been two major models of evaluation of Hadis, either by Muhaddits or by Ushuliyyun, which unfortunately offered no systematic methodology pertaining to make a clear of the position, of the function, and of the epistemological value of Hadis in legal theory (also in theological, philosophical, mystical fields of knowledge). This study attempts to (re)conceptualize a scope of Al Quran and Sunnah in the pre-classical Islamic period, which notably characterized an important hermeneutic relationship between both of them, and to make critical questions of classical Muhaddits’ and Ushuliyyun’s methodologies, which focused merely on ‘normative’ issues of isnad and mutawatir, contributing to the negation of primordial-hermeneutic relationship Al Quran and Sunnah and to the hypothetic assumption that the only objective of Hadis was to concern with textual authenticity (shahih) or narrators’ knowledge (mutawatir). By offering a new methodology which makes a question of both models of evaluation and provides a historical retention of hermeneutic relationship between Al Quran and Sunnah, this article was considerably to build an ethic-religious synthesis between Ulumul Hadis and Ushul Fiqh. Keywords: Al Quran, Sunnah, Hadis, Ushul Fiqh

Abstract

Konsep pemikiran Al –Farabi tentang Syahsiyah Al – Madaniyyah Dan Ara’al – Madinah Al – Fadhilah ini termasuk dalam pemikiran politik. Dalam penulisan ini, penulis menginterpresentasikan karya – karya Al- Farabi yang berkaitan dengan pemikiran politiknya dari perpaduan unsur Platonik, Aristotelian dan konsep islam. Dalam teori politiknya,Al-Farabi menekankan bahwa kebahagiaan bagi warga negara harus ditekankandan itu termasuk tujuan utama bernegara. Menurut Al-Farabi pemerintahan dalam suatu negara itu bagaikan unsur tubuh yang saling melengkapi antara satu dengan yang lainya untuk menciptakan suatu tujuan yang sama dalam bernegara,hal tersebut berarti sama dengan adanya salah satu anggota komunitas itu menderita, maka penderitaan itu dirasakan juga oleh anggota lain dari komunitas itu sendiri. Kepemimpinan yang ideal( baik ) menurut Al-Farabi ialah dengan mementingkan peran, fungsi yang tepat bertujuan untuk membentuk pemimpin negara yang sesuai dengan citra kemanusiaan yang ideal. Negara ideal bagi Al-Farabi adalahadanya suatu tujuan yang mensejahterakan warganya, dan yang menjadi pemimpin utama dalam bernegara ialah orang yang filsuf yang mempunyai sifat – sifat kenabian dan berpengetahuan luas dengan menggunakan fikiran, perbuatan dengan cara melalui akal mustafad.Kata kunci: Al-Farabi, Politik, Negara.

Abstract

The values of divinity and humanity are two aspects cannot be separated in living religion. The presence of God in every human being is a necessity and can undeniable. Meanwhile, people are also individuals who connected from other humans, because humans are social creatures. Therefore, faith must be proportional to the good deeds. Transgender as part of social life is also trying to prove them self as being godless creatures and social beings. The purpose is realized by establishing special schools transgender (pesantren waria). Pesantren founded in Yogyakarta became the fi rst transgender pesantren in Indonesia and even in the world. In the midst of the claim, transgender is a sinner ungrateful creature nature. Transgender showed up with his spiritual experience. Experiences are certainly cannot be equated with spiritual experiences that experienced by a kiyai, santri, scholars. They are regarded righteous in the eyes of society. Through this article, the author will try to give an idea of the spiritual experience of transgender in religion. Through this article, the author does not want to judge and claim their religious pattern of right or wrong. As well as this article, is expected to add a new discourse for the reader about the spirit and transgender spiritual experience. So, it can open a religious pattern that is more inclusive and open. Abstract

Tradisi buwuhan telah ratusan tahun menjadi sarana kohesi sosial pada masyarakat perdesaan. Dalam hubungan sosial buwuhan dapat dikonsepsikan sebagai negosiasi ekonomi dengan menggunakan pendekatan pertukaran. Sebagai sub-budaya, buwuhan menjadi alat strategis dalam menandai tahapan kehidupan seseorang, yang digelar pada acara pesta perkawinan dan khitanan. Dalam masyarakat perdesaan pertukaran ekonomi ini terorganisir melalui pencatatan. Kesadaran akan adanya norma sosial kesalingan menuntut nilai pertukaran dibayarkan kembali minimal sepadan. Di era modern tradisi buwuhan mengalam pergesera nilai, menjadikan tradisi buwuhan sebagai sarana untuk mengambil keuntungan pribadi, yang dibungkus dengan nilai kesetiakawanan dan kerukunan. Terutama pada masyarakat perkotaan dan masyarakat yang sedang megalami tranformasi sosial seperti masyarakat pinggiran kota. Hal ini karena modernisasi mengubah pola pandang masyarakat terhadap nilai uang. Pemaknaan ini lebih jauh menimbulkan praktek buwuhan dilaksanakan tidak dengan semestinya, dipaksakan, dimanfaatkan, dengan modus dan strategi demi keuntungan materi. Makna buwuhan menjadi subyektif, berdasarkan kepada kepentingan individual. Untuk melestarikan nilai tradisi buwuhan, harus ada rekonstruksi sosial yang mengembalikan makna tradisi ini kedalam fungsinya sebagai kohesi sosial yang dapat diterima oleh norma masyarakat modern, yang lebih rasional, realistis, intertain, familiar, dan harmonis.Kata kunci: Buwuhan, Kohesi Sosial, Komersialisasi, Modernisasi
