Abstract

Two major religions, Christianity and Islam, claim that their scriptures are God’s words and, therefore, divine, accurate, and without any mistakes. However, these statements are needed to be critically studied. This paper attempts to examine scriptural information on the events in the past and the future as presented by two holy books based on the true history or other signs. The author will discuss examples of events from the Bible and the Qur’an respectively. In the case of the Bible, the events include the floods in the age of prophet Nūh; Identity of Haman; The second coming of Jesus to the Earth before Paul; and The Kingdom of God. From the al-Qur’an, theauthor will present examples of the flood in the age of prophet Nūh; Identity of Haman; further information on Fir’aun; information on Rome after the defeat by the Persian Kingdom; and Cases of Abū Jahl and al-Walīd ibn Mughīrah. All those scriptural events will be examined comparatively in this paper. Keywords: al-Qur’an, Bibel, Informasi Skriptural, Peristiwa Masa Lalu dan Masa Kini

Abstract

The Muslim minorities in the West who are currently dealing with a multitude of problem receives attention from Muslim scholars. Syaikh Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī is the first Muslim scholar who attempted to provide a solution to the problems, especially related to the implementation of religious teachings, as he outlined it in the framework of fiqh al-aqalliyāt. In principle, this is not something new in Islamic jurisprudence, because its legal sources are still the same. Nevertheless, this kind of fiqh is different in the sense that it does not merely talk about legal issues, but also the problems of theology and morals that the Muslim minorities in the West are currently dealing with in their relations with non-Muslims. Fiqh al-aqalliyyāt is also characterized by the use of the principle of al-taysīr as clearly prominent in the fatwās by Syaikh Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, such as on the validity of both performing Friday prayer in the morning due to limited time for religious sermon (khuṭbah) and during ẓuhr time in some countries. This article will explore further this principle of al-taysīr in the Qaraḍāwī’s fiqh al-aqalliyyāt. Keywords: Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, Fiqh al-Aqalliyāt, al-Taysīr

Abstract

The thinking foundation of a movement is determined by the built ideology, one of the early foundations in a movement, the role of ideology is very important in shaping the characteristics and direction of a movement. Similar with the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII), ideologically, it is based on ahlussunnah waljama’ah. The ideology of the PMII movement is viewed in the form of the Basic Values of Movement (NDP) which are affirmed in the concept of; monotheism, hablumminallah, hablum minannas, and hablum minal alam. The NDP is what shapes the characteristics of the student movement organization which is expectedto be the answer to current problems. The NDP as a reference in the movement conforms the Islamic ummah guidelines, namely Al-quran and hadith, therefore, the essence of the guidelines is reflected in the Basic Values of Movement. The harmony of religious teachings and the ideology of the movement forms a tangent to the discussion of ecotheology. Ecotheology is present in a combination of two scientific clusters, namely ecology and theology, and is expected to provide scientific contributions in accordance with environmental theology, or the relationship between religious teachings and the environment. Keywords: Basic Values of Movement, PMII, Ecotheology

Abstract

Culture is dynamic rather than rigid and static. Culture is the implementation of state of mind and normative values of the society. The culture of organization at schools is socialized through internalization of common beliefs and values such as trust, behaviors or attitudes and symbols upon which the norms of collective behaviors are based. Successful internalization of those common values and norms will create secure and conducive working environments among the members, which eventually enhance their organizational commitments and loyalties. In other words, a strong organizational culture will provide the required structures and controls without heavily relying on formal bureaucracies which in many cases can discourage motivation and innovation. Keywords: Budaya Organisasi, Nilai

Abstract

Democracy, pluralism, Pancasila, and religious freedom become a heated debate in Indonesia because they are not only theoretical and conceptual but also have a significant influence on many aspects of the nation’s life. Moreover, the demand for the implementation of sharī’ah from a small number of Muslim groups continues to echoe in this country which, off course, concern also the Christians who become the second largest population in this country. This paper is an attempt to examine the Christians’ participation in democracy and Pancasila amids the demand for the implementation of sharī’ah in Indonesia. It discusses theological perspectives for Christians’ participation in the public space, a brief history of the struggle on sharī’ah law and Pancasila, and how Christians have and should respond through civil society. The paper argues that Christians can participate in many ways in democratization and defending Pancasila in Indonesia through the channels of civil society. Keywords: Democracy, Pancasila, Shari’ah, Indonesian Christians

Abstract

This paper will examine the penetration of the Shia’s ideology in the periodization of the Qur’anic exegesis (Tafsir). It argued that periodization phases showed the evidence of the ideologization tracing back to the Shia’s exegetic activities by using the the theories of Gramsci’s hegemony and counter-hegemonies. This paper revealed also that, as opposed to Sunni Qur’anic exegesis, the Shia’s Qur’anic exegesis reached its peak at the period of ahl al-Bayt.Keywords: Shi’ah, Tafsir al-Qur’an, Ideologi, Periodisasi.

Abstract

It is no longer surprising that Indonesia is still susceptible to finding many cases involving faith. Whether it is the entry of radicalism, which results in the rise of a derogatory stereotype toward Muslims in Christian circles, or even disputes among Muslims over who is the most right in his teachings. As stated in the Indonesian UlamaCouncil’s East Java Province declaration, which summarizes the findings of their tausiyah on greetings using other religious greetings. This assertion has sparked debate in a number of circles. Students, in particular, who work in a group or association that promotes interreligious harmony. Numerous them expressed reservations about the MUI comment. Given that students are considered to be a part of civil society, who would remain quiet if anything disturbs and impairs the community’s human rights? As such, this study seeks to ascertain the roleof students as civil society in preserving religious believers’ unity in the face of disputes about how to express greetings from other religions and their relationship to the study of living hadith. Since the researcher explores historical events and takes a qualitative approach, this study is classified as historical research. After all, theresearcher obtains data from carefully chosen informants. The findings of this study indicate that students of different religions are still attempting to preserve peace in a variety of ways, one of which is by not objecting to the greeting of other religions, as Islam contains a wealth of information about the sense of tolerance, both inthe Qu’ran and the Hadith. Keywords: Civil Society, MUI, Living Hadith

Abstract

Multicultural education means to learn about, prepare for, and celebrate cultural diversity. It requires changes in school programs, policies and practices. Experts agreed that the content, structure and specific practices in multicultural education are different according to the settings. This article will focus its discussion on multural education in teaching Arabic language. It found that multicultural education in teaching and learning Arabic language can be implemented in maḥārah al-arbā’, including learning maḥārah qirā’ah, mahārah kalām, mahārah kitābah, and mahārah istimā’. In globalization era, problems of multiculturalism are inevitable, including in learning Arabic because language is a human culture, which has different characteristics in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, geography and language. Keywords: Pendidikan Multikultural, Bahasa Arab, Maḥārah al-Arbā’
