Abstract

AbstrakReading is one of the important skill that children should master. In Early Childhood Education children start to learn reading from simple steps according to their developmental stages. The aim of this study is to determine wether the pick and play media can improve the reading skill of 24 children aged 5-6 years-old in group B TK Laboratorium FKIP Unri. This research used the experimental research method with one sample test. Research is carried out by observation, interview and documentation. The result of T-Test show that there is a significant difference and the result of data analysis show pretest score is 54,17% or in medium category and post test score is 80,36% or in good category. It indicates the increasing of children reading skill is about 26,19%. That means that the use of pick and play media can improve children reading skill. It implies that the pick and play visual media can be usefull for early childhood education teachers and also parents in helping children explore and developing their reading skill from the very begining because the right and interactive reading media will lead to the acquasition of reading skill in children. Keywords: reading skill, visual media

Abstract

AbstrakThis study attempted to investigate the relationship between demographic factors (gender, academic qualification, teaching hours and formal training received) and lecturers’ efficacy beliefs in project-based learning (pbl). A validated scale consisting of 9 items measuring lecturers’ efficacy beliefs in pbl was administered to 354 lecturers in the 23 Teacher Education Institutes (TEI) in Malaysia. In this study, structural equation model approach was used to explain the interactions between the demographic variables and lecturers’ efficacy beliefs in PBL. Significant direct interactions were found between (1) academic qualification and efficacy beliefs in pbl, and (2) Formal Training and efficacy belief. Gender and teaching hour meanwhile did not generate any significant relationship. These findings reaffirmed the past findings stating that two factors affected PBL which could be classified into two broad categories: (a) teacher/lecturer personal factors and (b) school/institution contextual factors. Keywords: demographic factors, efficacy beliefs, project-based learning, structural equation model

Abstract

Abstrak Thinking ability is one of the essential components need to be mastered by the students to help them solve problems and face the challenges in various fields of education today. This meta-analysis study will examine the effectiveness of learning based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in Science and Mathematics. HOTS-based learning environment involves establishing ways of thinking and the acquisition of students’ knowledge through independent learning, active learning and student-centered learning. Online data bases, such as EBSCOhost, ProQuest, SpringerLink, Eric and Google Scholar were used to find relevant studies on HOTS-based learning in Science and Mathematics from 2005 to 2015. A total of 15 samples were selected and the data gathered was analyzed using effect sizes and coding. Six elements of HOTS used to observe the effect of HOTS-based learning are the critical thinking, creative thinking, scientific thinking, problem solving, metacognitive skills and mathematical thinking. Results from the meta-analysis revealed that HOTS greatly influence students’ academic achievement and the ability to solve problems. This is because the effect size obtained from the 15 selected studies show the majority of studies reveal a medium effect size. Eight studies showed medium effect size and seven studies showed large effect size. This study also identifies fourteen different types of instruments to track the effectiveness of HOTS elements. The results of this study can also be used for further research focusing on other micro elements of HOTS to identify the effectiveness and impact on any chosen subject. Keywords : The Effects of HOTS- Based Learning, meta analysis, Science and mathematics subjects.

This was done by identifying the level of student’s confident toward the IB Examination after went through two months programme in the Explanation and Recall technique. In this research the reflection ofIB 2015 Candidates toward E & R Program are analyzed based on self-administered questionnaire that have been written by them. The purposive respondents for this action research are Engineering and Medic IB 2015 Candidates. The overall findings are summarized based on reflection from Candidates of International Baccalaureate Diploma programme (IBDP) 2015. Based on the findings, E & R are a good technique in order to prepare IB Examination 2015 Candidates in term of confident level. From the finding also, majority of the candidates agree E & R Revision Tool is effective provided that the student do the revision before the explanation and recall. Based on the reflection given in the research, 2 themes have been identify which are confident level and effectiveness. A further investigation need to be carried out in order to identify others factor that contribute to the IBDP Candidates achievement. Analysis performance of the student also suggested to be analyze upon receive of the IBDP results.Key words : E & R, Effectiveness and Confident.

This research involves a school government funded religious secondary in Klang area, SAM Nurul Iman. Respondents’ population for this study consistedall teachers of SAM NurulIman total of 48 people. Data were analyzed using the StatisticalPackagefor SocialScience (SPSS) software version 22.0 to get the mean score, standard deviation and Pearson correlation. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed and modified by the Sustainable Leadership Theory founded by Hargreaves and Finn (2006) and Theory of commitment by Allen and Meyer (1991).Keywords: practice sustainable leadership, organizational commitment, principals, SABK

Abstract

Abstrak Since 1967, Malaysian’s Ministry of Education has constructed a policy called the 60:40 Policy. This Policy aims to enroll 60% of students into Science/Technical stream while the other 40% into Art streams. This policy is based on the 1967 Statement Report of Higher Education Planning Committee. Although the implementation of this 60:40 policy has been almost half a decade, targeted ratio was found to be very far from the desired goals. Among the factors that influence students not to choose the Science / Technical stream is due to their lack of interest in Science subjects, they also felt that Science is difficult and the circle of people don’t encourage them enough to participate in the Science stream, caused by inadequate exposure to science-based careers. The involvement and achievement of students in rural areas are lower compared to those in urban area, which is caused by geographical factors and low socio-economic status. Ministry of Education (MOE) has taken initiatives to replace the Integrated Curriculum for Primary Schools (KBSR) to the Standard Curriculum for Primary Schools (KSSR) in 2011. But this transformation does not agree well with the 60:40 Policy because Science subjects have been replaced by the World Science and Technology. Other than that, the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics subjects (STEM) and 21st century learning is also seen as an approach that draws students interest to science. This approach must be integrated into the Science curriculum and consequently supporting the 60:40 policy. It is a hope that the 60:40 Policy can be realized by our countrys education system by the year 2020.Keywords: 60:40 Policy, STEM, KSSR and 21st Century Learning
