KARSA is a peer-reviewed national journal published by Institut Agama Islam Negeri Madura. It has been nationally accredited SINTA 2 since 2017 by Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of Republic Indonesia. It is published twice a year (June and December). It publishes articles of research results, applied theory studies, social issues, cultural studies, and Islamic culture issues. The aim of KARSA is to disseminate cutting-edge research that explores the interrelationship between social studies and (including) culture. The journal has scope and seeks to provide a forum for researchers interested in the interaction between social and cultural aspects across several disciplines. The journal publishes quality, original and state-of-the-art articles that may be theoretical or empirical in orientation and that advance our understanding of the intricate relationship between social science and culture. KARSA accepts manuscript with a different kind of languages are Indonesian, English, Arabic, or French.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan dampak kebijakan kebudayaan yang sudah diterapkan terhadap komunitas seni dan tradisi budaya Banyuwangi, khusunya Using, untuk mendiskripsikan pola relasi antar pelaku budaya dengan pemerintah daerah, dan untuk mengambarkan konstruksi model kebijakan daerah untuk pelestarian dan pengembangan kebudayaan lokal Banyuwangi, khusunya Using. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif dengan analisis trianggulasi, analisis isi, dan permodelan kebijakan. Metode untuk memperoleh data dilakukan melalui pengamatan, wawancara, dokumentasi, studi kepustakaan, dan FGD. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa kebudayaan Using menjadi sebuah entitas untuk terus diperebutkan dalam ruang representasi dari kepentingan masing-masing pihak. Terjadi relasi dari masing-masing aktor dalam sebuah ruang yang dinamis. Dari hasil penelitian terkait, budaya Using di Banyuwangi ditemukan beberapa kelompok aktor, yaitu pihak swasta, pimpinan daerah-Bupati, pelaku budaya lokal, tokoh masyarakat, dan masyarakat umum. Relasi tersebut merepresentasikan secara dialektik, nilai ekonomis, politik, spiritualitas serta kebutuhan replikasi identitas dan fantasi-hiburan warga masyarakat. Beberapa dampak dari kebijakan dan relasi yang muncul adalah dampak sosial, ekonomi dan bagi budaya dan bagi budaya Using sendiri.

Abstract

Patriarchy is a system that put adult men in central and important position, while others such as women and children are positioned in relation to the interest of the patriarch (adult man). Within patriarchal system, women are positioned as wives whose job is to accompany, complement, entertain and serve the patriarch, while children are positioned as the next generation and entertainer of their father. This system affects the interpretation of religion, in this case Islam. Understanding religion by using patriarchal lenses can produce patriarchal culture which position women as always subordinate to men and that men as always superior to women, such as that men are leaders of women who manage and decide women’s affairs regardless of whether or not the men are capable or fulfilling the requirements of being leader. This religious understanding by using patriarchal lenses causes gender injustice between men and women, which contradicts Islam, as a religion which supports equality and justice and argues against patriarchy. Abstract

It has been an urgent agenda to rediscuss the women role in regards to classic assumption proclaimed that women deserve to be in the house and manage domestic matters. Therefore, the questions would be: will it be a gender problem and a kind of descrimination if women stay at home at all times? What if the women prefer staying at home, as convinient and comfortable choice, to having career freely in public sphere? By keeping up the construction of role sharing with the absence of negotiation and reconsideration about role and position of men and women in a family, might facilitate the strength of gender imbalance that can inflict the both sides.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. Abstract

The study views the problematic of human trafficking in depth, that becomes a crucial issue in politic domain since 1990’s. Feminists, human right organizations, women social movements, and all thes sides that care about the issue are on attempts to reveal human trafficking, women who are immigrated forcedly and prostituted. This is an international problem and type of modern day slavery. By this point the researcher tends to describe women, the victims of human traficcking in Madura. The study uses biographic qualitative method resulting the description of the process of human trafficking genesis, victim period, and post victim period when they get back home. Economy, family endorsement, education, and self motivation have been the reasons of the human trafficking. The early process, placing, and returning cannot be seperated with the various kinds of sorrows—sexual harassment, raping, unsalaried, tortured, and longer woring hours. What a very long and sad biography. The researh result is hopefullyable  to attract the intentions of those who care against the human trafficking in order to act,  prevent, and to avoid cheated women in future.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. Abstract

Tulisan ini menjawab tiga persoalan pokok, bagaimana penafsiran ayat-ayat perempuan oleh para mufasir perempuan? Bagaimana mufasir perempuan memosisikan diri ketika menafsirkan ayat-ayat tentang perempuan? Dan apakah persamaan jenis kelamin perempuan memungkinkan cara pandang yang sama dalam melihat teks suci terkait isu-isu perempuan? Tulisan ini membuktikan bahwa tidak sepenuhnya benar bahwa kultur yang dibangun laki-laki yang membaca dan menafsirkan Al-Qur‟an berdampak pada penafsiran yang membenci jenis kelamin perempuan atau sebaliknya. Dari beberapa kasus penafsiran ayat yang berhubungan dengan isu-isu perempuan, tidak seluruh laki-laki yang menafsirkan Al-Qur‟an terkait relasi gender dalam Al-Qur‟an memiliki kesimpulan yang sama dalam penafsirannya. Bahwa ada mufasir laki-laki yang tampak “tidak berpihak” kepada jenis kelamin perempuan tidak harus dipahami bahwa itu terjadi karena mufasirnya adalah laki-laki. Persoalan tafsir terkait isu yang berhubungan dengan relasi gender bukan semata-mata persoalan persaingan antara laki-laki dan perempuan, melainkan lebih berhubungan dengan problem metodologis dalam berinteraksi dengan nash Al-Qur'an. Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. Abstract

The absence of government policy in supporting the creative industry practice is a factor inhibiting the development of performing arts in Banyuwangi. Diverse local performing arts which if managed properly can become a crutch for the emergence of creative economy. This study aims at describing the struggles of women in the tradition arts and in conceptualizing  a creative industry model ba-sed on performing arts. The study employed ethnography. The field data were obtained through interviews with the informants. The interpretation of data used a combination of tradition arts, gender, cultural studies, and creative industry perspectives. The results showed that women of tradition arts in general do not rely their livelihoods on art activitiy. They keep trying to develop creative know-ledge embodied in art creation and innovations. Arts institutions have a develop-ment program to maintain quality. The role of the government is manifested in the forms of policies, facilities, activity forums and infrastructural development. The development of Banyuwangi-style performing arts within the framework of the creative industry can support the realization of the creative economy.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA. To organize pilgrimage (hajj) has been a national task involving multi-institutions both in Indonesia and in Saudi Arabia. The Indonesion government is obliged to accelerate the quality of pilgrimage organization in forms of the service of registration administration, manasik advisory, pilgrimage trip, travel documents, air and land transportations, medic, accommodation, food, and security. Abstract

The differences of understanding and point of view on gender and gender equity have become the basis of this study. It exploits the distinction any further particularly in academic community. The focus of study is specifically on the orientation of research theme and the direction of gender study analysis which are written by in undergraduate thesis. The study is successful in identification that gender study themes have been dominated by the contextual study or ap-licative-empiric instead of the study of textual or normative-legalistic. Gender study is viewed as the study about women not about gender or the study utili-zing gender as tool of analysis. The analysis of women study mostly use des-criptive one, it only describes position and role of women, whereas the gender study uses critical analysis, that ilustrate the arguments behind the role and position of women. Abstract

Poligami   tak   pernah   usai   diperbincangkan.   Ia   bisa   dilihat   dari   berbagai perspektif, mulai dari perspektif sosial-budaya hingga dari perspektif teologi- tafsir. Artikel ini fokus pada bagaimana ulama, dari dulu hingga sekarang, memperbincangkan soal poligami. Bagaimana tafsir mereka terhadap QS. Al- Nisâ’ [4]: 3 yang secara tekstual menyebut soal poligami. Menarik, setelah ditelusuri,  ternyata  tak  ada  pandangan  tunggal  tentang  kebolehan  poligami dalam konteks sekarang. Ada yang pro tanpa syarat, bahkan boleh bagi seorang suami untuk berpoligami hingga dengan sembilan istri secara sekaligus seperti dilakukan Nabi Muhammad Saw. Ada yang setuju poligami dengan persyaratan yang ketat. Dikatakan, tak setiap orang boleh berpoligami. Hanya dalam kondisi daruratlah poligami bisa ditoleransi. Artinya, dalam suasana normal, poligami tak bisa dilakukan. Pertanyaannya, siapa yang punya otoritas menentukan kondisi darurat itu? Di sinilah titik masalahnya. Karena kondisi darurat itu bisa bias dan subyektif, maka muncul kelompok berikutnya yang kontra poligami. Bagi kelompok terakhir ini jelas, zaman Nabi memang zaman poligami, tapi zaman sekarang seharusnya adalah zaman monogami. Abstract

This article elaborates women issues based on the text comprehension and cultural construction of follower of the Naqsyabandiyah order in Madura. From the description, it was found that women's awareness of the status and rights increased so that become more independent. Women des-perately need privileges and equal status with men, including in terms of achieving the highest spirituality. Cultural construction of this kind can be found in the Naqshbandi Muzhariyah follower in Madura. The existence of such women murshid such as Nyai Tobibah, Nyai Aisha, and Fathimah Syarifah in tarekat showed that the organizational culture is no obstacle for women to reach the highest spirituality.Copyright (c) 2015 by KARSA.
