MIQOT: Jurnal Ilmu-ilmu Keislaman
MIQOT: Jurnal Ilmu-Ilmu Keislaman is a peer reviewed academic journal, established in 1976 as part of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra Medan (see: video), dedicated to the publication of scholarly articles in various branches of Islamic Studies, by which exchanges of ideas as research findings and contemporary issues are facilitated. MIQOT is accredited as an academic journal by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia (SK Dirjen Dikti No. 040/P/2014) valid through February 2019. Miqot welcomes contributions of articles in such fields as Quranic Studies, Prophetic Traditions, Theology, Philosophy, Law and Economics, History, Education, Communication, Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, and Psychology.

<![CDATA[Abstract: Universality and Relativity of Human Rights. Different approaches to human rights result in two principal theories of universalistic and relativist. The first contends that human rights are integral part of human existence regardless of time and place. Human rights are solely based on the very fact of human existence. The latter theory contends that human beings are product of their life contexts, therefore human rights should also be considered in the lights of socio-cultural backgrounds. <![CDATA[Abstract: Qishâsh: Capital Sentence in Qur’anic Perspective. A great deal of controversy exists globally over capital sentencing or death penalty, which has a number of staunch opponents and defenders. In Islam, however, although a number of the text of revelations deals with such an issue, typically, capital crimes are very carefully outlined in the works of Qur’anic exegetes and Islamic legal scholars. The author argues that Islam guarantees and protects every single life and thus capital sentence should be used in very rare cases and should be avoided as much as possible, but this does not necessarily mean to stop the possibility of it entirely. In addition, if capital sentence is finally justified and executed this is not aimed at killing people but rather maintaining and protecting lives from threatening forces. <![CDATA[Abstract: The Challenges of Islamic Studies on Theology in Malaysia. Theology is a branch of Islamic Studies specifically designed to safeguard Islamic tenets and ideology from outsiders’ attact throughout history. In Malaysia, the study of theology has been carried out from the pesantren era of Islamic Kingdoms to the present day era of universities. Some of the universities that offer this course work include Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, Faculty of Islamic Studies, and National University of Malaysia. The author argues that nowadays, the study of theology in Malaysia is facing some predicaments from some schools of thought, such as Liberal Islam, Shi’ism, and Wahhabism. These schools of thought and new challenging trends have to be faced with certain steps by those in charge of designing curriculum of theology. The emergence of young ‘liberal’ thinkers from the NU tradition has surprised many, partly because this organization has always been pictured as intellectually conservative and traditional. <![CDATA[Abstrak: Kearifan lokal dalihan na tolu pada masyarakat Mandailing terancam terdegradasi oleh pengaruh globalisasi. Nilai-nilai kearifan lokal memiliki makna yang dalam, baik dari segi adat maupun agama, sehingga perlu dilestarikan untuk menciptakan masyarakat yang peduli lingkungan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kearifan lokal dalihan na tolu dalam masyarakat Mandailing dan cara mempertahankannya dalam menjaga keharmonisan lingkungan hidup. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Keharmonisan lingkungan hidup masyarakat Mandailing dengan kearifan lokal dalihan na tolu yang melindungi lingkungan, seperti marsialapari, harangan rarangan, lubuk larangan dan bahasa daun harus dijaga kelestariannya. Kearifan lokal ini perlu disosialisasikan pada generasi penerus dengan mempelajarinya mulai tingkat dasar sampai perguruan tinggi sehingga tetap terjaga kelestariannya. Penanaman nilai-nilai agama merupakan faktor utama dalam mempertahankan kearifan lokal dalihan na tolu. Abstract: Local Wisdom Dalihan Na Tolu of Muslim Mandailing Community in Preserving Environment Harmony. Local wisdom Dalihan Na Tolu on Muslim Mandailing community relegation due to the influence of globalization. The values of local wisdom inherited conveys meaning in terms of both traditional and religious, so it needs to be preserved to create a society that cares about the environment. This paper aims to determine the Local Wisdom dalihan na tolu in Mandailaing Community and how to maintain dalihan na tolu in maintaining the harmony of the environment. Data were collected through interviews and observation. Mandailing community environmental harmony with local wisdom dalihan na tolu with protecting the environment should be preserved as marsialapari, harangan rarangan, lubuk larangan and bahasa daun. So it is necessary to socialize the next generation Mandailing community and revive local wisdom by learning start elementary to college level so that maintained continuity. <![CDATA[Abstract: The History of Tareqah and Social Dynamics. The existence of tariqah has been differently responded by Muslim community. While some Muslims support and practice tariqah, others are highly critical and even rejected it as being part of Islamic tradition. However, regardless of the intellectual controversies surrounding it, tariqah has undergone very long history and has developed into a rich field of study. <![CDATA[Abstract: Reference of Development in the Post-Tsunami Aceh: An Analysis Toward Islamic Based Development. Tsunami disaster occurred in Aceh causes not only in the lost of a great number lives but also in very serious destruction of infrastructure and every aspect of lives. Thus, in post Tsunami, rebuilding Aceh becomes the priority of the government. This article tries to analytically describe various government programs in rebuilding Aceh in the post Tsunami. In such a context, the author argues that besides referring to national development program (Propenas) rebuilding Aceh also refer to the regulation of Qanun of Aceh, a regulation of which constitutes the principles of Islamic teachings to be used as a blue print for rehabilitating and reconstructing in the post-Tsunami Aceh. <![CDATA[Abstact: The Principles of Learning in Islam. The present condition of Islamic education betrays its classical golden age, when Islam developed highly sophisticated system of education. The present ineffectiveness and inefficiency of Islamic learning was resulted partly from poor quality of learning system. <![CDATA[Abstract: Homosexuality in the Perspective of Western Thinkers and Islamic Jurisprudents. It is widely accepted that homosexuality is a damaging and immoral way of life. This presupposition seems to become as a uniting factor between the thoughts of Western scholars and Islamic jurisprudents on the legal position of homosexuality. The author argues that although Islam respect freedom in all aspects of life which belongs to every single individual, however, freedom is always recompensed with contractual responsibility to control its proper use and misuse. Accordingly, in the reality of Western world not all of the society is in agreement with substantial use of freedom occurs around them. Freedom demanded by homosexuality and social reality has led to serious concern amongstthe society about their future generation. In such a condition their human nature points to the necessity for religious and spiritual life. The author argues that they trust religion to be capable of anticipating themselves as well as their family from negative effect of homosexuality. This essay analyzes the root of homosexuality in the view of both Western scholars and Islamic jurisprudents, and relates their implication to the importance of religion. <![CDATA[Abstract: Religious Freedom in the Perspective of Prophetic Traditions. Al-Qu’ran Paradigm concerning to belief have the character of personal-privat and cannot be forced the becoming one of the Islam peaching to constructing the harmonious relation and foundation between religion and fellow being. (Q.S. al-Baqarah/2: 256). This matter indicated to shall no constraint for someone in embracing a religion, including to embrace the Islam. If to embrace the just religion of others may not be forced, more than anything else punish to kill the others prohibited in Islam.
