Abstract

Maize production has recently declined. This is as a result of shifting the utilization of productive lands into unproductive lands. Therefore, intercropping becomes one of alternative food production. The most potential land for growing food crops is the kayu putih based production forest. This study aims to determine the effect of organ parts and the percentage of kayu putih extracts on germination of maize seeds by bioassay method and determine the level of germination level resistance to allelopathy. The study was conducted in March-May 2015 in Bangun Tapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The design used in this research is Completely Randomized Design (CRD) Factorial. The first factor is the parts of the plant organ (E) used as the extract, consisting of 9 levels, namely: root 1 zone extract, 2 zone root extract, bark extract, fresh leaf extract, leaf litter extract, root 1 zone extract + bark extract + extract fresh leaf + litter extract, 2 zone root extract + bark extender + fresh leaf extract + litter extract, bark extract + fresh leaf extract + litter extract, fresh leaf extract + leaf litter extract and a second factor is an extract concentration of 6 levels i.e control, 20 % extract, 40 % extract, 60 % extract, 80 % extract, 100 % extract with 10 mL size. There are 54 treatment combinations each repeated 3 times so the total research unit is 162 trays. Variable observation in this research is counting seed vigor and stress tolerance index on seed vigor. Research results indicates that there is no interaction between part treatment and percentage of kayu putih extract to germination of maize seeds, all parts of fresh organs of kayu putih plants at various concentrations are able to inhibit the growth and development of sprouts and put the maize sprouts at moderate level until susceptible in grouping stress tolerans index.

Abstract

This study describes the synergy of the Regional Device Organization (OPD) in the implementation of the Sari Tani program as the flagship program of Timor Tengah Utara (TTU) regency, which is conducted with an analytical descriptive case study approach with the aim of establishing an alternative model in the acceleration policy of agricultural sector order to realize food sovereignty in TTU district. The size of synergy includes the intensity of coordination and synchronization between OPD from the formulation stage to the implementation of the policy. Primary data collection through interviews with stakeholders by using purposive sampling technique, to fulfillment the objectivity of the research community farmers interviewed as additional informants with cluster sampling techniques, while secondary data obtained through related institutions. Observation is also done to understand the attitude and behavior of research subjects. In order to improve internal validity, the author uses the triangulation method. The result of the research shows that the performance of the flagship program TTU Regent has not been optimal because the revolving funding is based on the result of the effort outside the flagship program. This is due to the low coordination between OPD resulting in overlapping the implementation level, while internally there is no control instrument field, in addition to the recruitment process of field assistants tends to be politicized, thus affecting the capability of field assistants. For that, the government needs to establish a special team to monitor in order to increase acceleration between OPD.

Abstract

Corn is a food material that is easily accepted by the community, because it is a staple food ingredient. One of the causes of decreased maize productivity is the ineffective maize storage model so that the need for seeds becomes less available and affects the quality of the maize. The habits of the people of TTU Regency generally save the corn harvest by fumigating it in the kitchen, storing it in barns, and storing corn drums. The three storage models are believed to be able to increase the shelf life of corn longer and avoid powder pests. However, in reality in the field resilience only covers the quantity (availability) aspect, while the quality aspect is not given much attention. In connection with the constraints experienced by the community, it is necessary to conduct a study to determine reducing sugar levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the storage model that can maintain quality and does not reduce reducing sugar levels in corn. This research was conducted from May to July 2014. The research method was carried out by testing in the laboratory. The tools used in the study were ovens, analytical scales, desiccators, and sample containers. The materials used were maize from the three storage models (fumigation, granary, and drum). The results showed that the highest reducing sugar content was in the drum storage model. In addition, the storage model for corn in the drum has the highest moisture content value of 15.26%.

Abstract

Single clove garlic has a relatively higher price than compound cloves, and has a high economic prospect. Some research results show that the decreasing limitations of growing space and resources, increase the formation of single cloves of garlic. Research has been carried out in May to September 2018 in the practice garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Timor, to examine the effect of the composition of biochar in compost and compost biochar tea on the growth and yield of single cloves garlic in the middle plains. The study used factorial RAK 2 factors. The first factor is the composition of biochar in compost (B) consisting of 3 levels, namely: pure compost (B0), compost + biochar 10% (B1), compost + biochar 20% (B2). The material in the first factor was also applied as the second factor that was applied as a type of compost tea (T) consisting of 3 levels, namely: without compost tea (T0) pure compost tea (T1), compost biochar tea (T2), thus there were 9 plots treatment combination namely; B0T0, B0T1, B0T2, B1T0, B1T1, B1T2, B2T0, B2T1, and B2T2, which were repeated in 3 blocks so that there were 27 plots and 3 control plots resulting in a total of 30 plot plots. The results showed that giving 20% biochar + compost and compost + biochar tea interacted positively (P <0.05), on the availability of soil organic matter, N-total, phosphorus (P), potassium (K), and cation exchange capacity (KPK). 10% biochar compost and Biochar Compost Tea increase the dry weight of single cloves per tuber.

Abstract

Seedling media is one of the factors that influence seed germination. The requirements for seed germinating are media constituent material have a porosity for water retention and air circulation. One of the porous material that can be used as seedling media is biochar. Characteristic of biochar depend on the pyrolisis temperature and the type of biomass. This study aims to determine the percentage conversion of biomass from 3 types of woody biomass to biochar, the chemical characteristics of biochar resulting from pyrolysis at 3 different temperatures, viability of lettuce seeds on seedlings media with biochar, soil, and compost. This study used a factorial completely randomized design that was repeated 3 times. The first factor is the type of woody biomass which consists of 3 levels, namely lac tree, eucalyptus, and acacia. While the second factor is the pyrolisis temperature which consists of 3 temperature variations namely 350 oC, 450 oC, and 550 oC. The results showed that the higher percentage of biochar yield was produced on the type of lac tree with pyrolysis temperature at 350 oC. Biochar pH is alkaline except for biochar from lac tree with pyrolysis temperature at 350 oC. The highest EC value is produced by eucalyptus biochar with a pyrolysis temperature at 550 oC. The type of eucalyptus biochar has C-total, N, P, and K content greater than the other, while the largest CEC value is produced by the type of lac tree biochar. The best seed germination of lettuce is produced by eucalyptus biochar at pyrolysis temperature on 450 oC. Generally, the type of acacia wood biochar gives the best germination in all pyrolisis temperatures.
