Abstract

This article argues the cultural values have its potention as a hindrance of children health, both psychologically and physically. Cultural value that has its significant influence in children educational system is the perception and parental values of the parent in front of the children. Almost most of the parents are, generally, expecting their children's "advantage". This expectation made children seen as family's "property". The consequenced is parent love their children with certaint "condition". This conditional love is apparent that made children felt that they are not in love and rejected. In tum it makes the children self image diminutive and they are less able to love themselves. This circumstance creates self defence and searching for love mechanism that had it impact on children mental health, particularly for girls, in which they were still in subordinated position within family and society. Not to say that cultural values too still block the children physical health, mostly girls, even since in the mother's womb. Finnaly, this article also sees the cultural dimension of children reproduction health.

Abstract

Penulis memfokuskan kajian gender dan menghubungkannya dengan konsep kesetaraan laki-laki dan perempuan dengan metode deskriptif-analitis.[Nowadays, gender’s issue turns to be the most discussed topic. It is motivated by the community that some still hold the principle of patriarchy culture. Men get some privileges, while women tend to be the second position. Islam to the extent of upholding equality. Islam is believed to be the ideal religion. It is decreed to elevate women’s position and freedom from the jahiliyyah tradition that marginalizes women in society. The verses of the Qur’an have declared about the equality of men and women. The difference between them is their level of devotion. However, in the empirical reality of religion arises the misunderstanding and misinterpreting religious texts that are gender biased. It triggers the raising of issues related to male and female relationships, such as injustice, subordination, discrimination, and marginalization. Therefore, the author believes that it is necessary to reinterpret the verses and the interpretation model which tend to marginalize the role of women. In this article, the author explains how the interpretation of Q.S an-Nisa`verse 34 contextually reinterpret the relation of men and women. The author focuses on gender studies and relates them to the concept of male and female equality with descriptive-analytical methods.]

Abstract

In the substantive understanding of religion, there is no differentiation between man and woman. The Al-Quran enshrines the principles of justice, equality, democracy and muasyarahbilma’ruf(humanizing actions). This manner of interpretation must become the basis in understanding the connection between religious teachings and the Draft Law on Gender Equality. To see Islam in a theological light, indeed there are several religious texts which directly differentiate man and woman, but what we must realize is that the Quran which was bestowed upon the Prophet not only contained provisions on how to life one’s life, but also the method to organize life itself. Understanding Islam depends greatly on our manner of interpretation. If a patriarchal reading of Islam were to be fostered, then the result will be rejection of the draft law on the pretenses of religious desecration. However, if we were to understand religion on the basis of equality, then a solution to the existing problem will surely be found.

Abstract

Islamic society will always be practically encircled by patriarchal culture and male domination if the body of Islamic laws does not offer the solution to the problem. As long as the patriarchal values dominate all legal considerations taken into account the formulation of law produced will be male biased and subordinate women. As a result, Islam as a religion will appear to be unfriendly to women -a situation which is against its own spirit. This present article aims to discuss the issue of wali in a marriage contract by applying a structuralism method within linguistic paradigm and critical historical approach. Using these methods, the author argues that the mainstream views of Islamic law on wali are gender, biased and unfair to women. Because gender injustice is against the spirit of Islam, the patriarchal fiqh should be re-examined and replaced by the egalitarian Islamic law.

Abstract

The circulation of a hadits prohibiting women from travelling without a mahram has been understood as to oblige women to have a mahram companion whenever they travel. The inclusion of mahram in the concept of women traveling during the Prophet time was concerned with the comfort and safety of women during the jumey. The hadits was said as a precaution from the prophet to the danger women might face in the desert and as a token of appreciation to women's position in their social context of the age. As time goes by, the social situation of roads and journey has also changed. Now we do have many rules and regulations that guarantee the safety of women and men. Such contextual understanding of the purpose of mahram has actually been propagated by Imam Al-Syafi'I who didn't require the presence of mahram in traveling.

Abstract

The willingnessto rest women and men in a parallel position within various aspects of life is gaining its prominence, especially in terms of women's participation in politics. Withinthe discourse ofleadership, none of the theory claims that certain sex -male or female- has more authority or privilege over another. Both sexes have the same rights to be leaders depending on who has better quality to hold that position. This article is an attempt to explain the discourse on the leadership of women within the political realm. The stigma given to women that a good woman is the ones who could perform their duties as a wife and a mother, coupled with the assumptionthat politics is dirty and full of intrigues, have weaken the opportunity of women to be actively involved in politics. For that reason, even though the number of women in Indonesia outweighs those of men, the representative of women in the parliament in every general election is only between 8 to 12 percent.

Secara umum modul kesetaraan peran laki-laki dan perempuan dapat digunakan untuk tahap selanjutnya.[Gender role equality between men and women has made women no longer need to feel guilty to work out of home. This absence of guilty feeling makes women are able to achieve work-family balance. However, in reality, when there is task sharing, particularly about domestic chores between a husband and a wife, there is inconvenient feeling felt by the wife when she sees her husband does the chores. As a result, she will take over the task. It is common that women feel their position is lower than men. Regarding this issue, a question arises. Do mothers experience and feel the equal role between men and women in order to achieve work-family balance? This research aimed to create a module and conducting validity test for the content of the module, “Role Equality of Men and Women”. This module is expected to be able to give full comprehension for working mothers so that they can fully understand and perform equal role between men and women which help them to achieve work- family balance.
