Abstract

Diversity is reality of being religious in the Nusantara society. Carelessness of this plural reality can bring up the intolerant potency because our failure interlaces interreligious relations in a plural society. This condition makes the narration of Islam Nusantara to be not enough about issues of arts and traditions but also to raise issues about being moderate Muslim in religious diversity. The NU ulamas for a long time have given their interest to the discourse of interreligious relations. This article discussed some teachings of the NU ulamas about practicing Islam in the diversity of Nusantara society. The research method of literature study or library research was used to read NU ulamas’ teachings. Hopefully, this article can present the construction of ideas about being moderate Muslim in religious diversity as an expression of practicing Islam in Nusantara. This article explains that NU ulamas teach the Islamic practice not ignoring consciousness of religious diversity, abolishing the majoritarianism ego, and interlacing relationship of interreligious humanity with other religious people. It is the teaching of NU ulamas about being moderate Muslim in religious diversity. Pengabaian realitas yang plural ini dapat memunculkan potensi intoleransi, sebab kelalaian kita menjalin hubungan antarumat beragama dalam sebuah masyarakat yang plural. Kondisi ini membuat narasi Islam Nusantara tidak cukup seputar isu seni dan tradisi, namun juga mengangkat isu tentang menjadi Muslim moderat dalam keragaman agama. Para ulama NU, untuk waktu yang lama, telah memberikan perhatian untuk diskursus hubungan antarumat beragama. Artikel ini mendiskusikan beberapa ajaran ulama NU terkait menjalankan Islam dalam keragaman masyarakat Nusantara. Harapannya, artikel ini dapat menghadirkan konstruksi gagasan tentang menjadi Muslim moderat dalam keragaman agama sebagai sebuah ekspresi menjalankan Islam di Nusantara. Artikel ini menjelaskan bahwa ulama NU mengajarkan praktek Islam yang tidak melupakan kesadaran keragaman agama, meruntuhkan ego mayoritanisme, dan menjalin hubungan kemanusiaan antarumat beragama dengan umat agama lain. Demikian itu adalah ajaran ulama-ulama NU terkait menjadi Muslim moderat dalam keragaman agama. Abstract

Religious moderation has become a strategic issue in recent years, eliciting diverse views, particularly among the younger generation. Gen Z, as a group growing up in the digital and globalized era, faces significant challenges in maintaining tolerance, managing differences, and developing an inclusive attitude amidst cultural and religious diversity. This research examines how students, particularly at IAIN Pontianak, a self-proclaimed Islamic university pioneering religious moderation, understand and internalize the concept of moderation in their daily lives. The research methodology employed a qualitative social situation approach, involving observation, interviews, and the distribution of an online questionnaire via Google Form. Analysis focused on students' daily interactions and behaviors as a reflection of their understanding of religious moderation. The theoretical foundation of this research refers to the principles of religious moderation, which emphasize tawasuth (the middle path), tasamuh (tolerance), deliberation, and national commitment as strategies to counter both extremism and excessive liberalism. The results indicate that students generally have a moderate attitude in responding to socio-religious change. They are less prone to negative stigma when faced with cultural and religious differences and are able to display an inclusive attitude in daily interactions. These findings confirm that religious moderation is a crucial asset for Gen Z to continue the nation's struggle with a spirit of tolerance, respect for diversity, and a strong commitment to nationalism. Keywords: Gen Z Perspective, PTKIN, Religious Moderation   Moderasi beragama telah menjadi isu strategis dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, memunculkan beragam pandangan, khususnya di kalangan generasi muda. Generasi Z, sebagai kelompok yang tumbuh di era digital dan globalisasi, menghadapi tantangan signifikan dalam menjaga toleransi, mengelola perbedaan, dan mengembangkan sikap inklusif di tengah keragaman budaya dan agama. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana mahasiswa, khususnya di IAIN Pontianak, sebuah universitas Islam yang memproklamirkan diri sebagai pelopor moderasi beragama, memahami dan menginternalisasi konsep moderasi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Metodologi penelitian menggunakan pendekatan situasi sosial kualitatif, yang melibatkan observasi, wawancara, dan penyebaran kuesioner daring melalui Google Form. Analisis difokuskan pada interaksi dan perilaku sehari-hari mahasiswa sebagai refleksi pemahaman mereka tentang moderasi beragama. Landasan teoritis penelitian ini mengacu pada prinsip-prinsip moderasi beragama, yang menekankan tawasut (jalan tengah), tasamuh (toleransi), musyawarah, dan komitmen nasional sebagai strategi untuk melawan ekstremisme dan liberalisme yang berlebihan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa umumnya memiliki sikap moderat dalam menanggapi perubahan sosial-agama. Mereka cenderung kurang terpengaruh oleh stigma negatif ketika berhadapan dengan perbedaan budaya dan agama, serta mampu menunjukkan sikap inklusif dalam interaksi sehari-hari. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa moderasi beragama merupakan aset penting bagi Generasi Z untuk melanjutkan perjuangan bangsa dengan semangat toleransi, menghormati keberagaman, dan komitmen yang kuat terhadap nasionalisme.   Keywords: Gen Z Perspective, PTKIN, Religious Moderation

Abstract

Religious moderation has become a significant theme in socio-religious academic discourse, particularly in discussions of religious practices intertwined with local culture. Nevertheless, studies examining the implementation of religious moderation values within death rituals remain limited, especially among Minangkabau indigenous communities. This study aims to examine and interpret the values of religious moderation manifested in funeral ceremonies in Nagari Aia Dingin, Solok Regency, and to analyze their contribution to maintaining social harmony within the community. The research employs a qualitative approach using a field study method. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, religious figures, and local community members, as well as documentation. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive-interpretative technique through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The theoretical framework of this study is grounded in the theory of religious moderation, which emphasizes the principles of balance (tawassuth), tolerance (tasamuh), and justice (i‘tidal), along with an integrative perspective on the relationship between custom and religion within Minangkabau society. The findings reveal that funeral ceremonies in Nagari Aia Dingin reflect religious moderation values through mutual respect among community members, the harmonization of customary practices and Islamic law, deliberative decision-making processes, and strong social solidarity. These values function not only as religious guidelines but also as social mechanisms for preventing conflict and strengthening social cohesion. This study underscores that local traditions can serve as strategic mediums for the actualization of religious moderation at the community level. Keywords: religious moderation, funeral ceremonies, custom and religion, Minangkabau society   Moderasi beragama merupakan tema penting dalam diskursus akademik sosial-keagamaan, khususnya dalam pembahasan praktik keagamaan yang berkelindan dengan budaya lokal. Meskipun demikian, penelitian yang mengkaji penerapan nilai-nilai moderasi beragama dalam ritual kematian masih belum banyak dilakukan, terutama pada komunitas adat Minangkabau. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji dan menginterpretasikan nilai-nilai moderasi beragama yang terwujud dalam pelaksanaan upacara pemakaman di Nagari Aia Dingin, Kabupaten Solok, serta kontribusinya dalam menjaga keharmonisan kehidupan sosial masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian lapangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam dengan tokoh adat, tokoh agama, serta masyarakat setempat, dan didukung oleh dokumentasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik deskriptif-interpretatif melalui proses reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Kerangka teoritik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori moderasi beragama yang menekankan nilai keseimbangan (tawassuth), sikap toleransi (tasamuh), dan prinsip keadilan (i‘tidal), serta pendekatan integratif antara adat dan agama dalam masyarakat Minangkabau. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan upacara pemakaman di Nagari Aia Dingin mencerminkan nilai-nilai moderasi beragama melalui sikap saling menghormati antarwarga, harmonisasi antara adat dan syariat Islam, pengambilan keputusan berbasis musyawarah, serta kuatnya solidaritas sosial. Nilai-nilai tersebut berfungsi tidak hanya sebagai pedoman keagamaan, tetapi juga sebagai instrumen sosial dalam mencegah potensi konflik dan memperkuat kohesi sosial. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa tradisi lokal memiliki peran strategis dalam mengaktualisasikan moderasi beragama di tingkat komunitas. Abstract

Islamic religious education faces a fundamental problem: the dominance of cognitive approaches that neglect the affective dimension results in shallow value internalization, leaving students' religious character fragile against the pervasive negative influences of the digital age. This study employs a qualitative library research approach through thematic analysis, cross-source interpretation, and source triangulation. The theoretical framework rests on the concept of mahabbah as articulated by Al-Ghazali, who positions love as the pinnacle of spiritual development and the engine of intrinsic motivation; Rabi'ah Al-Adawiyah, who emphasizes the purity of divine love as a prerequisite for authentic value internalization; and Ibn Miskawayh, who grounds love as the ethical foundation of social relations and moral excellence integrated with the Love-Based Curriculum of Indonesia's Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings demonstrate that mahabbah functions as a transformative force unifying the spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions of character formation, producing graduates who are morally resilient, empathic, and oriented toward the common good.   Keyword: Love (Mahabbah); Love-Based Curriculum; Religious Character; Islamic Education. Digital Era   Pendidikan agama Islam menghadapi problem mendasar: dominasi pendekatan kognitif yang mengabaikan dimensi afektif menyebabkan nilai-nilai agama tidak terinternalisasi secara mendalam, sehingga karakter religius peserta didik rapuh di tengah derasnya pengaruh negatif era digital. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berbasis studi kepustakaan (library research) dengan analisis tematik, interpretasi lintas sumber, dan triangulasi data. Kerangka teori bertumpu pada konsep mahabbah menurut Al-Ghazali yang menempatkan cinta sebagai puncak spiritual dan motor motivasi intrinsik, Rabi'ah Al-Adawiyah yang menekankan kemurnian cinta sebagai syarat internalisasi nilai, dan Ibnu Miskawaih yang menjadikan cinta sebagai fondasi relasi sosial dan kesempurnaan akhlak, diintegrasikan dengan Kurikulum Berbasis Cinta Kementerian Agama RI. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Indonesian government's policy of granting special mining business permits (WIUPK) to religious community organizations (ormas) for their participation in managing mines using an Islamic eco-theology analysis. The granting of these permits has sparked debate from many parties and concerns arise about overlapping economic interests, environmental ethics, and spiritual responsibilities, making this phenomenon interesting to study. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with a literature analysis of religious sources in the form of texts of the Qur'an and hadith, state regulations, and academic literature on eco-theology. Based on the analysis, the results show that Islam teaches the values ​​of balance (mizan), justice (al-'adl), and the value of welfare (istishlah). These principles are highly relevant for mining governance to utilize natural resources without causing damage. Thus, it can be concluded that Islamic eco-theology can serve as a moral and spiritual foundation for mining management by religious organizations so that the implementation of this policy runs according to expectations for the welfare of the community. Islamic eco-theology serves as a guideline for mining activities that can become a field for preaching and social worship, as well as sustainable development that is rahmatan lil-‘alamin. Keyword: Islamic eco-theology, public policy, mining, religious organizations   Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kebijakan pemerintah Indonesia yang memberikan wilayah izin usaha pertambangan khusus (WIUPK) kepada organisasi masyarakat (ormas) keagamaan dalam keikutsertaannya mengelola tambang dengan analisis ekoteologi Islam. Pemberian izin ini sempat menimbulkan perdebatan dari banyak pihak dan dikhawatirkan terjadi tumpang tindih antara kepentingan ekonomi, etika lingkungan, dan tanggung jawab spiritual sehingga fenomena ini menarik untuk dikaji. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif dengan analisis kepustakaan terhadap sumber keagamaan berupa teks Al-Qur’an dan hadis, regulasi negara, dan literatur akademik tentang ekoteologi. Berdasarkan analisis, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Islam mengajarkan nilai-nilai keseimbangan (mizan), nilai keadilan (al-‘adl) dan nilai kemaslahatan (istishlah). Prinsip-prinsip ini sangat relevan bagi tata kelola tambang untuk memanfaatkan sumber daya alam tanpa harus menimbulkan kerusakan. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekoteologi Islam dapat menjadi landasan moral dan spiritual dalam pengelolaan tambang oleh ormas keagamaan agar implementasi kebijakan ini berjalan sesuai harapan untuk kesejahteraan umat. Ekoteologi Islam menjadi pedoman dalam kegiatan tambang yang bisa menjadi ladang dakwah dan ibadah sosial, serta pembangunan berkelanjutan yang rahmatan lil-‘alamin. Abstract

This study seeks to examine the phenomenon of increasing religious intolerance in Indonesia’s digital sphere, which has affected social interactions and poses a challenge to social harmony within a pluralistic society. This condition highlights the need for an academic investigation into how religious messages that support values of tolerance are articulated and disseminated through new media platforms. The objective of this research is to analyze the construction of religious narratives in the digital content of Habib Husein Ja’far Al Hadar and to examine audience responses to these narratives.The study employs a qualitative approach using content analysis and descriptive methods. Data were collected through observations of YouTube and Instagram content, a review of relevant literature, and an analysis of audience responses within digital spaces. The findings indicate that the religious narratives presented are dialogical, humanistic, and contextual, emphasizing humanitarian values, the diversity of religious experiences, and mutually respectful social relations. Social media and podcast platforms have proven to be effective channels for expanding the reach of these religious narratives, enabling interaction, participation, and rapid dissemination across demographic boundaries. Audience responses, as reflected in comments, expressions of appreciation, and content sharing, demonstrate positive reception and underscore the significant role of these narratives in enhancing awareness of religious diversity within the digital public sphere. These findings affirm that communicative and contextual religious narratives in the digital realm possess strategic potential for fostering a culture of tolerance within pluralistic societies.  Keyword: content analysis, digital dakwah, global ethics, moderation, audience response   Penelitian ini berfungsi untuk menangkap fenomena meningkatnya intoleransi beragama dalam ruang digital Indonesia, yang berdampak pada interaksi sosial dan mengancam keharmonisan dalam masyarakat yang beragam. Situasi ini menciptakan kebutuhan untuk secara akademis mengeksplorasi cara penyampaian pesan agama yang mendukung nilai-nilai toleransi melalui platform media baru. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis konstruksi narasi keberagamaan dalam konten digital Habib Husein Ja’far Al Hadar serta respons audiens terhadap narasi tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi dan deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi konten YouTube dan Instagram, telaah literatur, serta analisis respons audiens di ruang digital. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa narasi keberagamaan yang ditampilkan bersifat dialogis, humanis, dan kontekstual, dengan penekanan pada nilai kemanusiaan, keberagaman pengalaman beragama, serta relasi sosial yang saling menghargai. Media sosial dan podcast telah terbukti menjadi saluran efektif untuk memperluas jangkauan penyebaran narasi keberagaman kontennya, memungkinkan interaksi, partisipasi, serta penyebaran pesan dengan cepat dan melampaui batas demografis. Respons audiens yang terlihat dari komentar, apresiasi, dan berbagi ulang konten menunjukkan penerimaan yang positif dan peran penting pesan tersebut dalam meningkatkan kesadaran akan keberagaman di ruang publik digital. Hasil ini menegaskan bahwa keberagaman yang bersifat komunikatif dan kontekstual di dunia digital memiliki potensi strategis untuk membangun budaya toleransi di tengah masyarakat yang plural. Abstract

The lack of academic studies specifically examining the meaning of environmental prayer for rural Catholic communities living as minorities indicates a research gap, particularly in understanding the spiritual, social, and existential dimensions of prayer at the grassroots community level. This study aims to reveal the meaning of environmental prayer for the Catholic community in Ngesti Rahayu Village, Central Lampung, based on the life experiences and religious awareness of the people. This study employs a qualitative method using Edmund Husserl’s phenomenological approach to explore the religious experiences of the faithful as lived within their lifeworld, supplemented by a theological approach to interpret the field findings in light of Catholic Church teachings. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentary analysis, then analyzed through the stages of reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that environmental prayer is interpreted by the faithful in three main aspects: religious meaning as a space for encountering God and strengthening faith identity; social meaning as a means of building brotherhood, solidarity, and social capital within the community; and existential meaning as a source of inner peace, hope, and resilience in facing life’s challenges. These findings confirm that environmental prayer not only functions as a ritual practice but also plays an important role in shaping the communal spirituality and social cohesion of rural Catholics in a pluralistic society.  Keywords: Environmental Prayer; Catholic Community; Communal Spirituality   Abstrak Minimnya kajian akademik yang secara khusus mengkaji pemaknaan doa lingkungan bagi komunitas umat Katolik di pedesaan yang hidup sebagai minoritas menunjukkan adanya celah penelitian, terutama dalam memahami dimensi spiritual, sosial, dan eksistensial doa pada tingkat komunitas basis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna doa lingkungan bagi komunitas umat Katolik di Desa Ngesti Rahayu, Lampung Tengah, berdasarkan pengalaman hidup dan kesadaran religius umat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi Edmund Husserl untuk menggali pengalaman religius umat sebagaimana dialami dalam dunia kehidupan mereka, serta diperkaya dengan pendekatan teologis guna menafsirkan temuan lapangan dalam terang ajaran Gereja Katolik. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa doa lingkungan dimaknai umat dalam tiga aspek utama: makna religius sebagai ruang perjumpaan dengan Allah dan penguatan identitas iman; makna sosial sebagai sarana membangun persaudaraan, solidaritas, dan modal sosial komunitas; serta makna eksistensial sebagai sumber ketenangan batin, harapan, dan ketahanan dalam menghadapi persoalan hidup. Abstract

This study aims to investigate the religious maturity of Catholic seminarians at St. Paul’s Seminary, Kentungan, Yogyakarta. The analysis of religious maturity is intrinsically linked to the relationship and mutual influence between such maturity and the religious vocation of these candidates. Consequently, in addition to evaluating religious maturity, this research explores the underlying meaning of religious vocation. Employing a qualitative methodology, data were gathered through field surveys, utilizing both psychological and phenomenological approaches to religion. Data collection involved direct observation and in-depth interviews, which were subsequently analyzed through the lens of Abraham Maslow’s theory of motivation, William James’s theory of religious maturity, and Antonius Denny Firmanto’s theological framework of vocation. The findings demonstrate that the seminarians exhibit a high degree of religious maturity, characterized by profound spiritual depth and an intimate personal relationship with the Divine. Furthermore, the results indicate that religious maturity significantly reinforces their religious vocation, manifesting as a steadfast and robust commitment to their religious calling.  Keyword: religious maturity; reiligous vocation; Catholic seminarians   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana kematangan beragama calon imam Katolik di Seminari Santo Paulus Kentungan Yogyakarta. Dalam pembahasan kematangan beragama tidak lepas bagaimana hubungan dan pengaruh antara kematangan beragama dan panggilan agama (vocation) calon imam Katolik. Jadi, selain membahas kematangan bergamaa penelitian ini juga akan membahas bagaiamana makna panggilan agama calon imam Katolik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan data dari hasil survei lapangan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan psikologi agama dan fenomenologi agama. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan melakukan observasi, wawancara kepada pihak yang bersangkutan yang kemudian dianalisis menggunakan teori motivasi Abraham Maslow, teori kematangan beragama William James, serta yang terkahir teori teologi panggilan Antonius Denny Firmanto. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa para imam Katolik di seminari tersebut memiliki kematangan beragama dengan memperlihatkan kedalaman spiritual dan hubungan pribadi yang dekat dengan Tuhan. Selain itu, dalam hubungannya dengan panggilan agama, kematangan beragama memberikan pengaruh berupa komitmen keagamaan yang kuat kepada mereka. Abstract

The issue of the ecological crisis has become a global concern, and many scholars try to address it in various ways. However, many of them ignore and don’t explore the role of youth, especially interfaith youth. This article aims to provide a new perspective on how the interfaith youth movement of Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah fights the ecological crisis in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. A qualitative method and ethnographic approach were employed to explore what has been taken by interfaith youth in the Movements. Data collected from participant observation, interviews, and document analysis.  This study concludes that the Interfaith Youth Movement of Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah has had an impact on fostering living harmony with all of God's creation (especially human and nature). This is evidenced by the transformation from interreligious dialogue to social action and make good impactful within the society surrounding interfaith community. This paper contributes to the global discourse on interfaith youth activism in addressing the ecological crisis. As one of the most affected victims, they use dialogue of action by combining everyday resistance that offers a new approach. Thus, this framework can be adopted globally for regions experiencing similar conditions.   Keyword: Interfaith Youth; Eco Bhinneka Muhamamdiyah, Ecological Crisis; Dialogue of Action; Harmony   Isu krisis ekologi telah menjadi perhatian global, dan banyak cendekiawan mencoba mengatasinya dengan berbagai cara. Namun, banyak dari mereka mengabaikan dan tidak mengeksplorasi peran kaum muda, khususnya kaum muda lintas agama. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan perspektif baru tentang bagaimana gerakan pemuda lintas agama Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah memerangi krisis ekologi di Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia. Metode kualitatif dan pendekatan etnografi digunakan untuk mengeksplorasi apa yang telah dilakukan oleh kaum muda lintas agama dalam gerakan tersebut. Data dikumpulkan dari observasi partisipan, wawancara, dan analisis dokumen. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa Gerakan Pemuda Lintas Agama Eco Bhinneka Muhammadiyah telah memberikan dampak dalam memupuk keharmonisan hidup dengan seluruh ciptaan Tuhan (terutama manusia dan alam). Hal ini dibuktikan dengan transformasi dari dialog lintas agama menjadi aksi sosial dan memberikan dampak positif dalam masyarakat di sekitar komunitas lintas agama. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada wacana global tentang aktivisme pemuda lintas agama dalam mengatasi krisis ekologi. Sebagai salah satu korban yang paling terdampak, mereka menggunakan dialog aksi dengan menggabungkan perlawanan sehari-hari yang menawarkan pendekatan baru.
