Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out and explain idiom that there in avril lavigne’s song lyrics in album let go 2002. This research is about descriptive qualitative, in which has purpose to make description about idiom that there in avril lavigne song lyrics. This research was done with steps in collecting the data that is by accessing to the internet, searching the song lyrics, reading and finding the idiom. Then, the data was taken with using mcgraw-hills dictionary, oxford dictionary of idioms and make the conclusion. Thus, can be concluded that there are 56 idioms was found and most of them have contextual.

Abstract

This research about reading speed students. The population of this research was 119 students. Thesamples in this research were 27 students. Researcher used cluster random sampling/random to takesamples that focus on one class. The instrument in this research is reading test. Based on a readingspeed skills test, the average speed of reading students, 2 students were able to reach 100-149 WPM inslow category and 25 other students are only able to achieve 50-99 WPM in very slow category. So,the skill of reading speed students at VIII grade in SMPN 1 Rambah Samo was very slow

Abstract

This research reports on an analysis of the students’ writing skill in descriptive text ofthe second year students at SMPN 2 Bangun Purba and also to find out the factors affect it. Thisstudy employed a descriptive research as the research design. This study involved a class ofsecond year students as the sample of the research. The data were collected through writing test.Then, the data were analysed based on their writing test score which were categorized into fivelevels of writing skill (Harris, 1969) and two organization structures of descriptive text(Identification and description) as the indicators to see the students’ writing skill in descriptivetext. The findings of the study show some points. The first point is that, generally, the students’mean score of writing skill particularly in writing descriptive text was 56 and it was consideredas the average level of skill. The second is that there are two factors affect the students’ writingskill. They are related to (1) the components of writing (grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, style,organization) and (2) the organization structure of descriptive text (identification anddescription).

Abstract

This research was descriptive qualitative, the kind of this research had purpose to make describe aboutsituation with objective. This research was done with some steps collected the data, analyzed the data, madeconclusion, and report. Based on the analyzed the data which by researcher, that skill of second years students ofSMP Negeri 5 Tambusai was Very Poor category and frequency were 10% of the students very poor category, poor category 7%, fair level with the percentage 12%. So, it can be concluded that the students of second years was fairlevel of vocabulary in antonyms.

Abstract

Learning English directed to determine the students skill to communicate well and correctly, both spoken and in writing. This research is action research, the purpose of this research is to improve students writing narrative skills. The result of this research showed that there are some improvement after getting the second cycle. There are 12,5 % students was in fair level, and 81,25 % students was in good level and 6,25 % students was in excellent level. The conclusion of this research is the students skill in writing narrative text in the good category. The suggestion for the teacher, The teacher should provide various techniques or materials for students to develop their ideas.

Abstract

This study aimed to solve the problems that were found in preliminary study. The research problem that was formulated “How can movie as media improve the speaking skill?” This research was conducted in SDN 002 UJUNGBATU, and the numbers of students were fiffteen. This research focussed on improving students’ speaking achievement by using movie as media. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research method. The subject of this study was the sixth grade students of SDN 002 Ujungbatu that consist of fifteen students. The steps of research procedure, they were: preliminary study (planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting) and data analysis. The data analysis used quantitative data that was obtained from the test. The researcher used scoring rubric to measure the students’ score, and then calculate the mean score.

Abstract

The purpose of this research Intention of this research were ( 1) to know was communications of throughdialoguing could improved ability converse student in english and ( 2) to know how applying from the techniquecan improve the ability of students’ speaking. This research carried out in SMA Muhammadiyah whererespondent from this research were students of class of XI 2 as control class (24 student) and XI 1 as experimentclass ( 22 student). Invention indicate that there was important effect between instruction of oration withdialogue technique. That was visible from value t0 ( t-test)= 74.5000 bigger than tt(ttable) 5%= 2,00 with use ttest.That was inferential that there was effect influence speaking of students through dialogue technique

Abstract

The Effect of Herringbone Technique toward Students` Reading Comprehension of Recount Text at the Grade VIII Students of SMPN 4 Rambah Hilir.            The purposes of this research were to find out students` reading comprehension of recount text taught by using Herringbone technique and taught without using Herringbone technique. And to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Herringbone technique toward students reading comprehension of recount text at the grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Rambah Hilir.            This research was an experimental research, precisely a pre-experimental research. The design of this research was one group pretest and posttest design. There were eight meetings in giving treatments. The instrument of this research was test multiple choices. The participants were students at grade VIII of SMPN 4 Rambah Hilir.             The research findings showed that the improvement from the score of t-test. The total score of t-test was 4.433. Based on t-table, 2.00 <4.433 > 2.65. Therefore, it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Herringbone Technique toward students reading comprehension of recount text at the grade VIII students of SMPN 4 Rambah Hilir.

Abstract

This research reports on the use of flash cards in improving students’ vocabulary mastery.The purpose of the research was to find out what extent the use of flashcards can improve thestudents’ vocabulary mastery. The study employed an action research in SDN 007 Bangun Purbawith 32 students as the sample. The study used two types of data collection techniques includingvocabulary tests and a four-week of classroom observation. The findings showed that there is animprovement in the students’ vocabulary mastery after the students were taught by using flashcards. The result of students’ mean score of vocabulary mastery in cycle 1 was 52.65 and that ofcycle 2 was 75.83. It means that it improved 23.18 which indicate the treatment is effective inimproving the students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out and analyze the skill of the fifth semester students of English study Program in University of Pasir Pengaraian in using gerund. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted 2 sessions of the test, they were try out test and post test where the purpose of the try out test is to determine the validity of the test items given to the students. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative research.There were several types of gerund used in this research. Overall, based on the result of this research, the whole test result which was done by students explain that from the 30 multiple chice test items given the percentage of the correct answer from the all respondents was 50 %. It means that their skill in using gerund can be categorized in the poor level (weak).
