Abstract

The potential of palm oil plantations in Aceh is substantial, with the province ranking eighth in Indonesia for palm oil cultivation. Aceh boasts a vast oil palm plantation area of 470.8 thousand hectares, comprising 44% of Aceh's total plantation land. Palm fruit quality directly impacts palm oil production, emphasizing the need for consistent maturity levels. To address this, computer algorithms, especially machine learning, have been applied. This study introduces the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) Algorithm for palm fruit maturity determination. SOM's reliability in capturing dataset topology offers a diverse classification process, revolutionizing palm fruit maturity detection and optimizing palm oil production. This study uses 40 dataset consisted of 20 mature and 20 unmature palm fruit image as the basis data which then converted into RGB and HSV value with Matlab engine. The result of the study indicates that the SOM algorithm is capable of classifying the maturity detection with 100% precision result. The SOM algorithm is synthesized in a Graphical User Interface that is capable of reading and classifying the input data into the output cluster.

Abstract

Risks are present in every activity and could cause damage if not properly addressed. This research discusses how to identify risks that occur in the production process of the food industry. The characteristics of the goods, such as flavor, price, appearance, and availability, are met through the production process by transforming raw materials into products. The XX Bakery business experiences several risks at the production stage that reduce the quality of the product which potentially causes financial losses. Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is used to identify and assess the risks and their level of importance. There were 20 risks that occurred in the production process obtained through observation and interviews. The risks were then assessed based on severity, occurrence, and detection through a questionnaire to determine the Risk Priority Number (RPN) value. The Pareto chart shows which risks would result in a significant impact if given treatment. There were top 5 risks in which RPN values resulted in 80% of the total score. The risks are broken mixer with a score of 360, fluctuation of raw material prices with a score of 320, power outages with a score of 240, workers experiencing fatigue with a score of 144, and water supply stopped with a score of 60. The risks were then further analyzed using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to find their root causes. The results of the risk management processes serve as a base for consideration in forming proposals for corrective actions that improve risks—the implementation of the proposed improvements is expected to reduce losses that potentially be experienced by the business.

Abstract

The distribution of soybean raw materials is not only related to aspects of quality and smooth production of tofu making but can also influence cost efficiency to increase competitiveness. In this situation, the number of soybeans shipped, transportation costs per unit, and the choice of transportation service used are transportation model issues. This research aims to determine the cheapest cost of sending soybean raw materials from four agent locations to three tofu factory locations with a choice of two transportation services that can be adopted. The case studied is a case of unbalanced transportation with supply greater than demand. The method used is the application of a transportation model, with the Northwest Corner method to determine the initial base solution and the Modified Distribution method to optimize distribution costs for soybean raw materials in the context of tofu production supply. Based on data processing, the results showed that the first and second transportation services offered services with a total shipping cost of IDR 691,750 and IDR 605,250. Observation of these differences leads to the conclusion that the second transportation service offers the most optimal value for money. The research results provide additional knowledge for tofu makers in optimizing costs and delivery routes for soybean raw materials, supporting production continuity, and increasing competitiveness in an ever-changing market.

Abstract

Decision of choosing the right business location will determine the future development of the business itself. Location decision making is not only important in terms of costs and profits but is also one part of a company's strategic planning which is significant in increasing competitive advantage. Via Laundry’s owners has decided to open a new store branch to expand their business as it has been well-operated for 3 years. Business owners have determined several alternatives for this new branch’s location, namely Transpark Djuanda Bekasi, Jakarta Garden City, and Harapan Indah. The purpose of this study will help business owners to better decide preferred location for the new branch by using multi-criteria decision making, which is AHP and TOPSIS combined methods. Determination of criteria and alternatives is carried out based on the results of discussions with experts, namely business owners and their business partners. Experts also assess the importance of each criterion to produce a pairwise comparison matrix. Based on the results of calculations using the AHP method, priority vector values are obtained for the 6 criteria from the highest to the lowest weight, namely population density (0.370), water cleanliness (0.249), rental costs (0.131), land area (0.103), ease of access roads (0.093), and competitiveness level (0.054). Calculation using AHP method generate weight of each criterias which is then used in TOPSIS. By comparing the distance with ideal solution, preference value for each alternative can be obtained, namely 0.3053 for Jakarta Garden City, 0.3624 for Harapan Indah, and 0.8009 for Transpark Djuanda Bekasi. The chosen location recommendation for Via Laundry’s new branch is Transpark Djuanda Bekasi with the highest preference value of 0.8009.
