Abstract

This research was on the synthesis of cellulose composites from camphor wood sawdust with LDPE waste (cellulose-LDPE) and Fenton reagent (H2O2/Fe2+) as the coupling agent. This study was divided into three steps: preparation, variation of LDPE composition and H2O2 concentration, and characterization. Preparation was done with cellulose extraction of sawdust and LDPE plastic waste purification. Variation was performed to determine the effect of compositions of LDPE on composites celullose-LDPE and H2O2 concentration on Fenton reagent. Characterization was done by testing the physical properties and functional groups using FTIR analysis. The best values of the physical property were obtained from cellulose-LDPE composition ratio of 1:5 on 1.5% H2O2. These were MOE (Modulus of Elasticity) of 12.71 MPa, MOR (Modulus of Rupture) of 200.24 MPa and density of 0.7936 g/cm. FTIR analysis showed the higher the composition of LDPE, the higher the wavenumber for OH and the increase of H2O2 concentration increased the C-H wavenumber functional groups.

Abstract

Arak merupakan hasil destilasi dari nira kelapa. Arak banyak di produksi di Kecamatan Sidemen, Karangsem Bali. Produksi arak dilakukan secara tradisional sehingga belum diketahui dengan jelas kadar etanol yang ada dalam arak tersebut. Metode kromatografi dapat digunakan sebagai metode dalam menentukan kadar etanol dalam arak. Metode kromatografi dapat digunakan apabila telah dilakukan validasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan validasi metode kromatografi gas dengan detektor ionisasi nyala untuk menentukan kadar etanol dalam arak. Kondisi kromatografi yang dipilih yaitu suhu injektor 250oC, suhu detektor 300oC, dengan split rasio 20. Suhu awal kolom 500oC ditahan dua menit pada suhu tersebut, ditingkatkan secara bertahap sebesar 10oC/menit sampai suhu mencapai 220oC dan ditahan selama lima menit. Laju alir dari kolom yang terpilih adalah 0,7 mL/menit. Laju alir gas helium 40 mL/menit, laju alir nitrogen 50 mL/ menit dan laju udara sebagai pengoksida 450 mL/menit. Senyawa standars yang digunakan dalam melakukan validasi yaitu metanol, etanol dan butanol. Standar internal yang digunakan yaitu butanol. Hasil validasi metode kromatografi gas yang diperoleh yaitu nilai resolusi Rs > 1,5 dan koefisien korelasi metanol 0,9998; etanol 0,9998 dan asam asetat 0,9855. Batas deteksi dari masing – masing standar yaitu metanol 0,1059 ng; etanol 0,1688 ng. Nilai ketelitian ditentukan dari koefisien variasi dari masing – masing standar yaitu metanol 0,7%; etanol 1,8%. Sedangkan nilai ketepatan yaitu metanol 3,54%; etanol 3,53%.

Abstract

The research aims to investigate hypocholesterolemic activity of two marketed herbal honey products forhypocholesterolemia, mentioned as product A and B on Wistar albino rats with hypercholesterolemic diet.Hypocholesterolemic activity test was conducted with Enzymatic Photometric Test CHOD-PAP (CholesterolOxidase Phenol Aminoantipyrin) method. The result revealed that product A administered orally to Wistar albino ratswith hypercholesterolemic diet, at 0.15 mL/200g BW dose once daily, did not show hypocholesterolemic activity. Onthe other hand, product B at 0.5 mL/200g BW dose showed hypocholesterolemic activity similar to simvastatin.

Abstract

A research on synthesis diphenylcarbazone immobilized silica gel from rice husk ash by sol-gel technique has been conducted. The purpose of this research was to synthesize the diphenylcarbazone immobilized silica gel from rice husk ash by sol-gel technique.  This research included modification of silica gel of rice husk ash and silica gel characterization by IR spectra and X-RD. The results showed that the diphenylcarbazone immobilized silica gel has been successfully synthesized. It can be seen from the FTIR spectrum that silica-imobilized revealed peaks at wave numbers of ±1087.85cm-1 indicating the presence of Si-O-Si. The peak seen at wave numbers of  ±952.84cm-1 indicating the presence of Si-O, at ±3361.93cm-1due to the Si-OH bond which was the main functional group  of silica gel. Another peaks at ±3313.71cm-1, ±800.46cm-1, ±1602.85cm-1,±1700 cm-1, and ±1602.85cm-1 suggesting the presence of N-H, aromatic C-H (substituted benzene), aromatic C=C, N=N and C=O stretching. X-RD data showed that the structure of diphenilcarbazone immobilized silica gel was amorphous.

Abstract

Toxicity of essential oils extracted from young and old leaves of Tenggulun (Protium javanicum, Burm) towards Artemia salina leach larvae has been evaluated using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test and their chemical compositions have been analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The essential oils were obtained by extracting fresh young and old leaves of Tenggulun using steam distillation method. Steam distillation of young leaves produced oils with 0.06% yield while old leaves yielded 0.07 % oils. The toxicity test results found thatthe essential oils obtained from old leaves were more toxic with LC50 of 15.85 compared to the essential oils of young leaves whose LC50 was 25.12 ppm. GC-MS data revealed that the essential oils of young leaves contained 11 compounds which were : ?-pinene (0.75 %), ?-pinene (0.54 %), delta-3-carene (0.38 %), octatriene (1.35%), trans-?-ocimene (77.63 %), ?-elemene (1.23 %), trans-caryophyllene (12.62 %), ?-humulene (1.18 %), germacrene (3.25 %), ethanone (0.65 %) and isospathulenol (0.42 %) while the essential oils of old leaves composed of 21 compounds whichwere : ?-pinene (0.71 %), ?-pinene (0.44 %), ?-myrcene (0.15 %), cis-ocimene (2.06 %), trans-?-ocimene (52.79 %), trans-caryophyllene (30.02 %), ?-humulene (2.80 %), germacrene (0.28 %), germacrene (4.64 %), ?-farnesene (0.85 %), ?-elemene (0.16 %), tridecatrienenitrile (0.19 %), ethanone (0.49 %), caryophyllene oxide (0.83 %), nerolidol (0.12 %), spathulenol (1.25 %), isospathulenol (1.18 %), kauran (0.30 %), isospathulenol (0.16 %), spathulenol (0.34 %) and ?-farnesene (0.23 %).

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini dilakukankarakterisasi karbon aktif komersial serta aplikasinya sebagai adsorben Pb(II) dan Cr(III). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas dari karbon aktif komersial berdasarkan SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) dibandingkan dengan karbon aktif komersial yang diaktifkan kembali dengan pemanasan pada suhu 6000C selama 2 jam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, nilai kadar air adalah 6,8%, kadar zat menguap 13,22%, kadar abu total 1,9% dan kadar karbon terikat sebesar 79,1%. Bilangan iodin 774,2159 mg/g dan luas permukaan 8,9400 m2/g. Dengan pemanasan karbon aktif pada suhu 6000C selama 2 jam, bilangan iodin naik menjadi 864,7238 mg/g dan luas permukaan karbon aktif 9,2511 m2/g. Kapasitas Adsorpsi karbon aktif komersial terhadap Pb(II) adalah 0,3438 mg/g dan Cr (III) 0,1861 mg/g, sedangkan karbon teraktivasi panas kapasitas adsorpsinya adalah 0,6775 mg/g untuk Pb(II) dan 0,3033 mg/g pada Cr(III).

Abstract

The stems of marigold plant can be used as the raw material for making activated carbon. One of the activators that can be used is NaOH with an activated time of 24 hours. The purpose of this study was to obtain an effective activation time through activation with a 2.5% NaOH activator in several variations of activation time followed by characterizing the activated carbon formed. Characterization which was carried out including the determination of water, volatile matter, ash, carbon contents, as well as the absorption capacity of methylene blue and iodine. The results of the study showed that the activation for 28 hours produced an activated carbon with characteristics in accordance with SNI 06-3730-1995, namely: water content (8.40 ± 0.72)%, volatile matter content (9.58 ± 0.95) %, ash content (4.93 ± 0.83)%, carbon content of 77.09%, absorption of iodine (758.66874 ± 1.21) mg/g and absorption of methylene blue 124.6226 mg/g. The results of the analysis with FTIR spectrophotometer on this activated charcoal showed the presence of OH, CH aliphatic, C = O and C = C functional groups. Abstract

This paper reports a research on the capacity and efficiency of resin anion exchange on chloride in a batchsystem. The system was then applied to chloride level in spring water in Sedang Village. Chloride content analysedwere using argentometry methode .The results of the research showed that resin was potential to reduce chloride level below Water QualityLimit for (Group B). Its capacity was 0.6462 mg/g and saturating time was 260 minutes. Its effectiveness between64.50% - 97.04%.The analysis of spring water in Sedang Village showed that these springs were contaminated with 260.33 –295.83 ppm chloride. The resin exchange applied to these waters reduced the chloride levels to the level below theGuideline Limit for the 250 mg/L purposes (Group B).

Abstract

The use of synthetic dyes in enhancing the consumer appeal of the product is increasing, but most synthetic dyes are toxic, carcinogenic and difficult to degrade, causing environmental pollution. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the red pigments produced by fungi isolated from soil contaminated with goat milk. Stages of research include semisolid fermentation using PDA and milk as a supporting medium for pigment production. Pigment analysis involves determining the characteristics of the spectrum as well as the stability of the colour upon pH and temperature treatments. The results showed that the spectrum of the red pigment from the fungus consisted of two peaks at 416 and 493 nm, the colour was stable at a temperature range of 40-90oC and at pH range of 5-8.

Abstract

A compound with antibacterial activity has been isolated from cem-cem (spondias pinnata (L.f) kurz). Antibacterial activity test towards Erwinia chrysanthemy resulted in VIII fraction. Fraction V effectively inhibited the growth of Erwinia chrysanthemy. The analysis of the active fraction with GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mas Spectrophotometer) showed that the active fraction contains Methyl Ester.
