Abstract

The preamble of Indonesian Fundamental Laws year 1945 stipulated that the independence of the Indonesian state was basically aimed “…to form a Government of the State of Indonesia that shall protect the whole people of Indonesia and the entire homeland of Indonesia, and in order to advance general prosperity, to develop the nation’s intellectual life, and to contribute to the implementation of a world order based on freedom, lasting peace and social justice…” This part of the preamble means that every public policy in this country should always put hard efforts to reach those goals. Public policies that are not in line with the need of the citizens are apparently having no actual meaning for them. Those policies should be applicable and worthy for all aspects of their life.  Laws number 25 year 2007 was passed with spirit “to create a condusive capital investment,” while Laws number 25 year 2007 has explicitly showed that for our government, investment is everything; it is the only way to prosper Indonesian citizens. Clark has concluded that self-interested behavior motivates individuals and firms to compete in the free market. It also drives them to form groups and to seek government protection against competitive pressures and instable markets.

Abstract

Hizbut-Tahir (HT) claims Islam as the only paradigm in all its activities and ideas. This is certainly contrary to the secular paradigm that currently dominates the world. This paper aims to identify both the HT concept of relation between religion and state and its method to apply its perspectives in that relation. The results show that within HT perspective, the relation between religion and state is integrated by which Islam and state must be united. This perspective is unquestionably exposed within the three intermingling concepts of HT; Islam, Islamic state, and caliphate. In its effort to re-establish the structure of caliphate (khilafah), HT boasts three stages of integrating religion and state by firstly recruiting and educating cadres (Tahapan Pengkaderan), followed by the stage of interaction with the community (Tahapan Interaksi dengan Masyarakat), and lastly by accepting power (Tahapan Penerimaan Kekuasaan).

Abstract

Nowadays there is a tendency that seeing conflict in the era of democracy as a negative excesses of the existence of democracy. The assumption that democracy is a good system and will bring good for human life then interpreted by a society without conflict. The understanding seems to mask the fact that freedom and equality of each individual offered by the democratic system basically means providing space for conflict because of the nature of human beings as creatures who always has a difference. This paper aims to discuss how conflicts tend to be regarded as non-democratic phenomenon as something that is actually reasonable in the context of democracy. Through the election as one of the pillars and the main indicators of democracy that seems to be a criticism of the denial of the conflict as an important element in democratic society.

Abstract

Abstract

Referring to the argument that a state’s historic background and geographic location inthe world are inherent elements of its foreign policy narrative which constitutes its identity, this article examined and brought narratives on the reconstruction of Turkish foreignpolicy towards the Middle East which was directed by a foreign policy doctrine ofDavutoğlu as defined Davutoğlu Doctrine. Using a critical constructivist perspective, itcontends that Davutoğlu’s foreign policy vision for Turkey is an attempt to reconstructthe international role and responsibilities of Turkey through a transformed identitybased on a reinterpretation of its historical heritage and geographic location. This articleconcluded that the Davutoğlu Doctrine’s vision was not only an endeavor to overturnthe traditional tendencies in Turkish foreign policy, but also in any ways, is a task ofidentity transformation. Further, this new activism has led to a shift in the axis of itsforeign policy from the Western orientation to a more assertive, strict independent foreignpolicy that is central to the Davutoğlu Doctrine. Finally, Davutoglu Doctrine canbe recognized that it has reconstructed Turkey’s state identity to reshape Turkish foreignpolicy onwards to the Middle East aiming to reposition Turkey as the global representativeand a key player in the region.

Abstract

Structure of an ideal state, according to al-Farraby, is similar to that of a human body by which all parts support each other in achieving perfection and collectively working in preserving life. Al-Farraby believes that the entire universe is an emanation of the first being. Quoting the words of Ahmad Musayyar, "al-Farraby is a disciple of wahdawy, who believes in the unity of creator, universe, human beings, society, power of thought and philosophy." Based on wahdawy paradigm, al-Farraby established his idea of a state. In his analogy, al-Farraby constructed a social interdependent community. The unity is a reflection of a rhythmic beauty of the symphony of the well-organized, thorough and meticulous universe. The unity of the universe is an inspiration for the scientific paradigm, ideology and particularly to the constellation of the state of human beings. Thus, this is the framework to establish a smart polis, an ideal state.

Abstract

This research is a descriptive political economy on what and who obtains the most advantages of the politics of building infrastructure and of creating local, regional and international financial schemes. For its analysis, the writer applies common logic of Karl Marx on creating values in production of capitalism facilitated by the distribution process of creating highways and other infrastructures, which is commonly known as a process of producing spaces. Through observation, it is found that the process of infrastructure politics, in fact, provides more benefits to local, national and global economic oligarchy, than to the publics in general.

Abstract

In playing their political roles, each social and religious organization in Indonesia has their own values and ideals to apply and to maximize within the context of their socio-political life in the country. Nahdhatul Ulama (NU) of Majene Regency has inevitably been in this circumstance. This article is intended to observe the role of Nahdhatul Ulama in Majene Regency played for political education. The research was qualitatively conducted in Majene and descriptively analyzed. The samples were purposively chosen among the Syuriah and Tanfidziah board of this local Nahdhatul Ulama. This is due to the fact that the dynamic of Nahdhatul Ulama in Majene is centralized among the roles of the ulamas themselves. The meaning of politics for the majority of NU members in Majene has been reduced to something negative. This in turn needs the language of religious figures to provide the right meaning. In this case, the political language of the ulamas of NU is needed in order to convey the message of political education which is in line with the values and ideals of NU itself. The deliverance of such message in the language of NU influential figures in the area is believed to be rightly conveyed and easily accepted by its members.
