Abstract

Rabies is a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans. Most cases of rabies (98%) were caused by the bite of dogs infected with rabies, while the rest by the cats. This study aims to determine the antibody titer six months y.o local dog after the rabies vaccination using vaccines rabisin. This research was conducted in three stages, namely: taking blood samples in the villages of Buduk and Sading, serum sampling and serum testing using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test using 19 samples of local dogs with random blood sampling. The results showed that from 19 samples tested 17 samples (89%) had protective antibody titers (seropositive) and two samples (11%) did not have protective (seronegative) antibody titers. Seropositive was the value of Optical Density (OD) above 0, 5 IU, while seronegative is the value of Optical Density (OD) below 0.5 IU.

Abstract

Biosecurity efforts on chicken farms such as using antiseptics need to be modified so that the aim of suppressing the bacteria in the cage is effective. The purpose of this research is to find alternative methods for sterilization and disinfection of broiler cages and to find out the number and type of bacterial contamination in broiler cages. In this study two cages were used, the first cage washed with detergent and given Povidon Iodine disinfectant. In the second cage after washing with detergent, the floor of the cage is burned/heated and the cage wall is disinfected. Then the blood agar media is placed on the cage’s floor and opened for 1 hour. Then the blood agar media examined in the laboratory to see the number and type of bacteria that grow. All samples were tested with T-Test. The results showed that disinfection with disinfectants had more number of colonies (206 colonies, with an average of 29.85 colonies) than cages that used a heating method with a stove (182 colonies, with an average of 26 colonies). The results show there is no significant difference between sterilization treatment and disinfection treatment. The method of sterile sterilization by heating using a stove is slightly more effective than disinfection by using disinfectants seen from the number of bacterial colonies that grow, although the difference between the two methods is very little.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate that the administration of ant nest reduces the side effects of toxic doses of gentamicin seen from the histopathological changes in hepar of white rats (Rattus norvegicus). This study used 24 male white rats, divided into four treatment groups, namely negative controls (P0) there were only given food and drink, positive controls (P1) administered gentamicin at a dose of 100mg/kgBB intraperitoneally for 10 days. The group (P2) was given gentamicin 100mg/kgBB intraperitoneally and ant nest extract with a dose of 250mg/kgBB orally for 10 days. The group (P3) was given 250mg/kgBB of ant nest extract for 7 days, after which ant nest extract was given at a dose of 250mg/kgBB and gentamicin with a dose of 100mg/kgBB intraperitoneally for 10 days.White rat hepar was taken and processed for making histopathological preparations, with hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining. The results showed that there was a significant difference between negative control and positive control groups. The mean score of improvement in hepar damage of white rats was significantly different between treatment P1, P2 and P3. The P2 and P3 groups that showed the most change near the mean score of the negative control group. Giving ant nest extracts to white rats for 17 days at a dose of 250mg/kgBB can improve the side effects of the administration of gentamicin 100mg/kgBB in the hepar of white rats.
