Abstract

Internally, SWOT analysis of the six environmental study programs of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab has the support of young lecturers who have scientific qualifications in accordance with the peculiarities of the study program. This makes it easier to implement technology-based learning interactively with students. The students who study in the study program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab are dominated by the Ciayumajakuning area, with the origin of madrasah schools and Islamic boarding schools. Graduates of study programs at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab work and have careers in various segments of the world of work with an average waiting period of less than six months. This kind of condition needs to be improved in five aspects of quality improvement, namely the Organization and Management Sector, Education and Student Affairs, Research and Community Service, Institutional Cooperation and Support Sector. These five aspects of quality improvement are carried out in the form of improvement and development strategies such as carrying out Internal Quality Audits in an accountable and database-based manner, sending lecturer delegations to scientific associations (National and International), publishing lecturer-student collaboration journals, intensifying models and cooperation from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to the orientation of the Memorandum of Action (MoA), organizing the Fostered Village program.

Abstract

The Cipaganti Grand Mosque is located in the Cipaganti area of North Bandung. It was designed by Prof. Ir. C.P. Wolff Schoemaker and established in 1933, during the period when Bandung was designated as a gemeente (between 1906–1940). This study aims to explore the background behind the location of the Cipaganti Grand Mosque within a Dutch Colonial residential area and to understand the mosque’s status. This is important in order to identify patterns in the placement of places of worship/mosques in colonial settlements, as well as the relationship between the Cipaganti Grand Mosque and the local community in the colonial residential area, and with other religious buildings in the Cipaganti area. The study focuses on spatial aspects at a semi-micro/meso scale, using a descriptive-analytical method and inductive reasoning. The core idea of this research identifies three factors that influenced the location of the Cipaganti Grand Mosque. First, the establishment of the mosque within a Dutch Colonial residential area was influenced by the ethical policy and association policy. Second, it served to meet the religious needs of the Muslim community living in the Cipaganti area. Third, it functioned as a supporting facility for worship for employees working in near by institutions or agencies. Keywords: Mosque, Colonial Settlement, Meso/Semi-micro Scale Space, Gemeente, Background of Position, Status, Bandung.Abstrak: Masjid Agung Cipaganti terletak di kawasan Cipaganti Bandung Utara yang dirancang oleh Prof. Ir. Abstract

This research focuses on the views of the Neratja newspaper in responding to the early days of nationalism in the Netherlands East Indies during 1917-1924. Using the framing analysis theory derived from mass communication, this study tries to answer how the embodiment of the ideology of the Neratja newspaper in reporting the initial process of nationalism in the Netherlands East Indies. The result of the analysis found from this discussion is that the Neratja newspaper is affiliated with the central figures of the Islamic Movement who are able to frame the situation in the Indies by putting forward the bumiputera idea of the narrative Islam is more depressed, oppressed and persecuted.. This daily newspaper offers Islamic thought as the basis of spiritual power in a nationalistic style. Coming out of the initial publishing concept, The ideal of creating a neutral press in Neratja was not realized because of his firmness and courage to reject Kaoem Sana (Capitalist) to become a friend of Kaoem Sini (Indigenous). The conclusion of the findings shows that Neratja as one of the largest indigenous newspapers in the Netherlands East Indies has a strategic position and has a great influence in voicing the rights and obligations of the natives, resisting the threat of communism, and teaching love for the homeland based on faith. Keywords: Neratja, Indigenous Press, Early Nationalism, Islamic Ideology, Framing.

Abstract

It is undeniable, the figure of Snouck Hurgronje is still an interesting character to study. Is he friend or opponent to Muslims? For Islamic scholars, he is the ideal figure of a researcher and practitioner who has successfully used the results of his research on Acehnese society during the Aceh war. The results of his research were then used by Snouck Hurgronje in breaking the resistance of the Acehnese people. On the other hand, for the Indonesian Muslim community, he is a representation of the orientalist figure who is most hated by Muslims. Especially in Indonesia. The representation of Snouck Hurgronje is a scientist who is devoted to destroying Islam. o this day, the stigma of “Snouckism” or people trying to destroy Islam still exists. This paper attempts to describe the intellectual biography of Snouck Hurgronje to his advice related to the issues of Islamic politics in Aceh, the politics of Hajj, the Islamic Community and Islamic Law. By examining Snouck Hurgronje's thoughts on this matter, it will be known how Snouck Hurgronje's view of Islam really is.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contributions of the Berber people in the political transformation and strengthening of Islam in North Africa during the era of the Al-Murabitun and Al-Muwahhidun dynasties. Using a descriptive-analytical historical approach, the research examines the active role of the Berber people in the spread and reinforcement of Islam in the region. The findings indicate that the Berber people not only acted as mediators between Arab Muslims and local communities but also played a crucial role in establishing political, military, and intellectual structures that supported the dissemination of Islam. Additionally, cultural adaptation and the development of institutions such as mosques and madrasas further strengthened the presence of Islam in North Africa. Consequently, the study concludes that without the active participation of the Berber people, the Islamicization of North Africa would not have achieved significant success.

Abstract

The analysis of the description of the process of formulating the quality concept of the profile of graduates of the History of Islamic Civilization (SPI) Study Program (SPI) IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon is an integral part of efforts to test the relevance of graduate profiles to graduate careers. This effort was carried out through a survey research method with an exploratory approach to the alumni population from 2011 to 2021 which amounted to 297 people. This approach was chosen based on the assumption that social reality applies typically, subjectively and contextually in space and time, so researchers need to understand it by interpreting the phenomenon in depth in its context. The results of the study show that the mechanism of formulation and preparation is carried out through several stages, namely Need Assessment, Workshop, Formulation and Ratification at the Senate level, Socialization, Improvement. This mechanism produces the formulation of the quality profile of graduates, namely: Historians; Creator of narrative works with the theme of Multimedia-based Islamic Cultural History; Researcher in the field of Islamic Cultural History; Historical Tour Guide; and Cultural Observers. Meanwhile, the level of quality relevance in the career of graduates is relatively low, namely 19% of the object population. This low relevance is caused by several obstacles, namely the lack of job opportunities purely related to the expertise of the History of Islamic Civilization; Linearity of non-educational and educational expertise; Low foreign language and computer/technology (IT) skills; Low socialization and promotion of the SPI Study Program to stakeholders (the world of work).

Abstract

The colonial government's propaganda of modern and western culture not only changed lifestyles, but also influenced various aspects from education, social relations, domestic life, to perspectives on identity and gender. This internalization of western values was spread through media such as newspapers, posters, films, advertisements, textbooks, and literary works. The purpose of this study is to identify the transformation and internalization of popular culture in the Dutch East Indies through product marketing strategies through celebrity popularity in the Dutch East Indies and see a comparison of celebrity marketing techniques from the colonial era to the modern era. This research shows that the Bumiputera middle class in Batavia accepted elements of western culture as globalization spread. The colonial government's branding strategy was closely linked to the development of print media at the time, where classified ads frequently appeared and celebrities were utilized to attract public attention. the appearance and lifestyle of celebrities, especially women, reflected social values influenced by colonialism. for example, miss Riboet's name was associated with powder products, and Roekiah became an advertising star after her success in the film Terang Boelan. Although the practice of celebrity marketing has existed since the colonial era, the difference with the present is obvious, especially due to the rapid development of technology and the use of the internet.

Abstract

This paper attempts to examine letters written by the children of Dutch colonial officials and renowned Islamic scholar Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje, who lived in Ciamis from 1906 to 1908, as a primary source for exploring and understanding the emotional dimensions, experiences, and identities of Indo-Native children within the colonial family system. Unlike previous studies that focused on Snouck's travels and intellectual and political contributions or the impact of his colonial policies, this paper attempts to highlight the domestic and emotional dimensions of Snouck and his family in the Dutch East Indies through an epistolary analysis and microhistory approach.  Analysis of these letters reveals at least several main themes, including longing for a father who has left his wife and children, expressions of obedience and politeness characteristic of Sundanese-Ciamis culture, education as a path to social mobility, economic dependence on the colonial father figure, and the negotiation of children's identities in the context of mixed families. These letters also show how colonialism worked in the domestic sphere through emotional, economic, and cultural relationships between fathers and their children. A significant contribution of this research is its effort to enrich Indonesian colonial historiography by presenting the voices of children, which rarely appear in official colonial archives, and showing that the experience of mixed families can be an important lens for understanding colonialism from a more human and personal perspective.
