Abstract

As an intellectual as well as an activist for the independence movement, talking about one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Indonesia would certainly be incomplete without discussing the figure of Sutan Sjahrir. The man who was born in Padang Panjang, West Sumatra is known as an accomplished diplomat and was one of the prime ministers during the early period of Indonesian independence. Tracing this matter, it becomes interesting then to be able to see how the side of his life was from time to time, such as childhood and youth, his actions as an independence figure, until the end of his life, this was an effort to then perpetuate the works that what he did, and how then the values that he upheld to become an inspiration for later generations to emulate the figures and figures of Bung Kecil, Sutan Sjahrir's nickname.

Abstract

Banten is one of the regions that houses a rich collection of magical manuscripts. In the Ciomas District, the Awrād manuscript of K.H. Sandra was unearthed, containing segments with magical teachings. This study aims to achieve two primary objectives: first, to identify Awrād manuscripts, and second, to contextualize these manuscripts within the lives of the Bantenese people. The research employs philological methods, encompassing manuscript inventory, description, transliteration, text editing, translation, and contextual analysis. The findings indicate that K.H. Sandra’s Awrād manuscript is a singular text, thus subjected to a standardized textual criticism process. Various errors such as omission, addition, and substitution are found in the process of textual criticism. This manuscript underscores that magical practices are deeply ingrained in the social fabric of Bantenese society, particularly in addressing challenges perceived as insurmountable through rational means. The Awrād manuscript serves as compelling evidence of the community’s steadfast belief in magical potency. These practices are not confined to social rituals but are also intertwined with religious life. This research underscores the necessity of preserving and further investigating similar manuscripts to gain a deeper understanding of Bantenese cultural heritage and magical traditions.

Abstract

This article traces the names of poets who came from the Umayyad lineagebut had an attitude that was the opposite of that family towards the Ahlul Bait(prophet's family: Ali, Fatimah, Hasan and Husain). In Islamic historicalrecords, the majority of the Umayyads were socially and politically showedresistance and opposition to the Prophet Muhammad and his descendants, butthere were several names from the Umayyad clan who were exceptions andactually went against the traditions of their group. To study it, this article usesa historical approach and literary criticism towards several poets descended  from the Umayyads and several verses of their poetry about the Ahlul Bait. At that time, poetry could function as a socio-political identity and expressionfor a poet to describe his world. Based on the theory of neo-historicism, this article tries to explore the cultural context behind the poetic texts originating from these poets to understand the socio-political conditions at that time as well as the tendencies of their political and religious tendencies.

Abstract

Starting from the government policy that increasingly develops the principle of laicite by issuing several policies that discriminate against Muslims in France. It has led to several cases and realities that have been experienced by Muslims in France. The issuance of the law on March 15, 2004 which has been passed by the French government provides a severe challenge to Muslims there. In addition, in 2020 there was the murder of Samuel Paty by a teenager named Abdoullakh Abouyezidovitc. The murder was carried out on the basis of Samuel Paty teaching freedom of speech to his students using caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad SAW from the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The existence of the law is certainly not in accordance with the aspects of laicite which should be neutral between its relationship with religion and the state. This research uses a qualitative approach and library research as the type of research.

Abstract

This research focuses on the study of the spectrum of Said Nursi’s thought who became an important figure in the dynamics of Islam in Turkiye during the transitional period leading up to the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate and the founding of the Republic of Turkiye. Said Nursi with the cultural movement "Risale-i Nur" prefers to inflame meaningful jihad as the path of his da'wah struggle rather than face to face confrontation against the newly established secular government of the Turkish republic structurally and radically. This paper will also focus on studying the current Risale-i Nur movement which began to be officially printed in Turkiye in the 1950s and then, 50 years later, around the 2000s, it has spread to hundreds of other countries, including Indonesia. The indications of this can be seen in the translation of the books "Risale-i Nur" into more than 150 world languages. The methodology used in this study is library research with literature sources related to Said Nursi's spectrum of thought and the Da'wah movement of the Risale-i Nur community as the main object of research. In addition, this research was also carried out through interviews with informants who were directly related to the research focus. In the Indonesian context, the Risale-i Nur movement can be studied through the center for the study of Nursi's thoughts which is under the auspices of the Nur Semesta Foundation and the publishing institution Risalah Nur Press. This study also explores reading corners and centers for the study of Said Nursi and his works in several Islamic colleges and universities, both private and public. This study concludes that Said Nursi Corner is a symbol of the moderate movement that contributes to developing knowledge, solidarity in social life and fraternal networks and as an inspiration for lecturers and students to explore the character of Said Nursi and his phenomenal work Risale-i Nur in mainstreaming moderation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Prayer is a medium of communing with God. A prayer with a specific purpose has a certain kaifiyah or procedure, either done before or after the prayer. In certain conditions, kaifiyah and other media are needed so that the prayer is easily granted, such as reciting the Prayer of Sulaiman nine times to be kept away from wild animals and the heat of the fire, and burning coconuts while reciting the prayer of Sulaiman eight times to get a melodious voice. This article aims to analyze the prayers contained in the manuscript LKK_CIAMIS2013_MLM01. This manuscript contains prayers and talismans for healing and salvation written in Arabic and explanations of prayers using Sundanese and Javanese. The philological method and content analysis were used in order to get an overview of the characteristics of the content, make an interpretation of the content, and identify something that appears. The research data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's theory, namely reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that the manuscript LKK_CIAMIS2013_MLM01 contains prayers and talismans with certain kaifiyah and efficacy.

Abstract

Marriage in Muna society is generally based on customs and religious teachings. The implementation of bhoka in traditional Muna marriages was first established by King Sugi Manuru in the 16th century, before the arrival of Islam in Muna. The uniqueness of the bhoka custom lies in its function, initially as a tax imposed by the government.. However, after Islam entered, there began to be a change where bhoka was transferred to function as a dowry for Muslim communities in the Muna Kingdom. The determination of bhoka cannot be separated from the social strata in the Muna Kingdom as the amount of bhoka is determined based on social class.  The method used in this research is the historical method involving heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The research findings indicate that the establishment of the bhoka custom from 1905 to 1960 AD arose due to the lack of concrete regulations regarding the amount of bhoka in marriages. Bhoka in traditional Muna marriages is essential for conducting wedding ceremonies as it serves as a dowry. Determining the amount of bhoka based on social strata in Muna is considered socially acceptable, given that the society in the Muna Kingdom is divided into several groups based on tasks and skills.
