Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the problem of speaking ability in junior high school needs to be done to observe the development of students'' learning difficulties incurrents speaking skills. This research is a collaborative classroom action research. That is, the researchers did not conduct their own research, but collaborated or collaborated with the school, namely the class VIII teacher at SMP Negeri 3 Binjai. Based on the results of the pre-test, the pre-test mean score was 58,65 and the mean score in the post-test was 73,78. It can be seen that the students'' skill in speaking by using storytelling technique increased. From these calculations, it can be inferred that there was a difference of students'' scores before and after receiving the treatment. Consequently, these data which had been analyzed answered the first research question that using visualization startegy can improve student speaking ability at SMP Negeri 3 Binjai at 7th graders. Based on the data analysis, the researcher found that Visualization strategy can improve students’ skill in speaking. As the result from the pre-test and post-test mean scores which were given. The improvement of mean score was 55 to 96. It means that there is significant difference of achievement between the students who were taught by using Visualization Strategy and Fun Active Learning Strategy and the students who were taught with conventional method. The data also showed that students felt that storytelling technique could help them in speaking. Most of them also responded that they attempt to use Visualization Strategy in their daily speaking.

Abstract

Speaking is a topic that has relevance for all of us. As an important component in direct spoken language processing. Speaking is also an area that is interconnected with numerous areas of inquiry and development. The research was done through an experimental design using one-way ANOVA. The population of the research was tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Rantau Utara which consisted of 148 students while the samples were class X-I as the experimental group A,  X-II as the experimental group B and  X-IV2 as the control group which consisted 90 students. The data were taken by using instrument or test. After validating the test, the researcher gave the pre-test to both classes to examine the normality and homogeneity of the data. It would be good for us to know about the testing criteria in the ANOVA TEST. If the value is significant or the (P Value) is less than 0.05 then we can conclude that there is a significant difference. And if the significance value or (P Value) is greater than 0.05 then it can be concluded that there is no significant difference. Based on the data analysis in speaking skill through this Cognitive and Dictogloss Strategies in SMA Negeri 1 Rantau Utara. Both of the strategies provides the teaching learning process more interisting and the students more to comprehend the speaking material and do every task from the researcher correctly. The result show both of the strategies pre-test and post-test significance values were obtained of 0.001 for the pre-test and 0.000 for the post-test. If this value is less than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference and accepted.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the role of Transformational Teachers in enhancing school climate and student well-being at SMP Negeri 1 Raya. The objectives are twofold: firstly, to examine the contribution of Transformational Teachers to school climate and student well-being, and secondly, to assess the impact of their practices on these factors. The qualitative methodology utilized in this research provides a comprehensive understanding of the intricate dynamics involved. Transformational Teachers, students, school administrators, and the school climate are the primary subjects of investigation. Through semi-structured interviews and direct observations, this study delves into the experiences, perceptions, and practices of these stakeholders. These findings highlight the Transformational Teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Raya play a pivotal role in cultivating a positive school climate and enhancing student well-being through multifaceted initiatives. Their dedication to innovative teaching methodologies, such as 'Student-Based Learning' and 'Differential Learning', fosters dynamic and inclusive learning environments that cater to individual student needs, thereby improving academic performance and enthusiasm for learning. Additionally, their proactive support for extracurricular activities and initiatives aimed at addressing issues like bullying and character building contribute to a safer and more supportive school environment. Furthermore, their collaborative leadership style promotes teamwork among staff, leading to a more positive work culture and efficient school administration. Ultimately, the impact of Transformational Teachers extends beyond academics to encompass holistic student development, ensuring that SMP Negeri 1 Raya maintains a vibrant and supportive climate conducive to students' overall well-being and success.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the reading comprehension difficulties faced by eleventh-grade students and how to solve the students' reading comprehension difficulties. This research uses mixed methods with an explanatory sequential design to collect data, both quantitative and qualitative. Reading tests to collect quantitative data and interviews to collect qualitative data. Twenty students from SMKN 1 Lolomatua participated in obtaining quantitative and qualitative data. The research results showed that 76,25% of students experienced difficulty in making conclusions. Second, 44.3 % of students had difficulty determining the main idea. Third, 68,3 % of students have difficulty interpreting vocabulary. Fourth, 45 % of students found it difficult to identify references. Fifth, 52 % of students had difficulty detailing information. Then, four the strategies to solve students' difficulties in reading comprehension. They are students have to reading a lot of English books, master of the vocabularies, find synonym and antonym words, and for pronunciation students can use smartphone application.

Abstract

The study examines the impact of extensive reading on vocabulary acquisition among EFL students. It presents initial findings based on interviews with nine students, all of whom agreed on the positive effects of extensive reading on improving vocabulary. The research reveals that extensive reading courses usually last about six months, with reading durations varying depending on the genre studied. Common challenges include effective time management and access to reading materials. These results highlight the crucial role of extensive reading in strengthening vocabulary and emphasize the need to customize educational methods to meet the learners' specific needs. The researches highlight the essential function of extensive reading in enhancing vocabulary and stresses the importance of customized educational approaches that address the unique needs of learners. The research provides valuable insights into maximizing vocabulary acquisition through the implementation of extensive reading practices.

Abstract

Despite numerous studies on teacher’s agency and self-efficacy, little attention has been given to examining how teachers’ agency manifests in the use of artificial intelligence and how it influences teachers’ self-efficacy. Teachers as active agents are demanded to effectively and independently exercise their digital agency in teaching. In essence, teacher’s agency allows them to make informed choices about using artificial intelligence to promote their teaching, which might influence their perceptions of their self-efficacy. Thus, this study aims to fill the gap by examining how EFL teachers’ agency manifests in the utilization of AI tools and how they perceive their self-efficacy. Employing a qualitative study, this research employed open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to gather the data. Five EFL teachers who have used artificial intelligence in their teaching participated in this study. To analyze the data, the researcher employed selective coding. The data revealed two teacher agency drove three participants to use artificial intelligence in three parts namely lesson planning, implementation, and assessment, and the other two participants used it for lesson planning and assessment. Furthermore, this study found that the five participants perceived high self-efficacy towards their use of artificial intelligence. Thus, schools and teacher educational programs should provide targeted professional development programs that emphasize the importance of teacher agency. In particular, training should focus on how teachers can utilize artificial intelligence tools to enhance their pedagogical practices that contribute to building high self-efficacy.

Abstract

Beauty industry is a challenging business globally. Besides its promotion and expansion, product naming reflects its uniqueness. Through this research, the analysis shows how word contributes in product naming and the track of negotiation to the customers. By conducting morphology and crosschecked by appraisal in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) studies, The researcher analyses word formation and attitude towards the categories and products of Wardah Skincare. Studying the one of Indonesian fast-growing beauty industry, this research is done by qualitative paradigm. The analysis is done in word level by criterion-based sampling to apply in four stages of analysis technique consisting domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural theme. The researcher found that word formation process is frequently practiced in naming skincare product informing physical, composition, and function aspects. However, it does not result attitude at the same time. Its existence supports the product through the words conveying benefit, opportunity, specialization, and innovation. The more products are offered; word formation is done to create heterogeneous options. On the other hand, attitude reflects sensation, visual emphasis, protection, and capacity.

Abstract

This study investigated the self-regulated learning (SRL) practices of undergraduate students during their Skripsi completion in the English Education Department. A quantitative survey design was employed, involving 64 students who were actively engaged in their Skripsi. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics through JASP software. The results revealed that the “Resources Management” and “Motivational Components” were the most frequently utilized SRL strategies, while “Cognitive Components” ranked the lowest, indicating potential areas for improvement. Self-regulated learning strategies such as “Evaluation” and “Set Self-Consequences” were predominant, emphasizing reflection and goal-setting, while “Organizing and Transforming,” “Keeping Records and Monitoring,” and “Seeking Assistance from the Academic Community” were less frequently utilized, suggesting a need for enhanced organizational and collaborative skills. These findings contribute to the understanding of SRL practices and offer implications for educators to leverage student success in academic achievement.

Abstract

Fostering creative thinking skills is a crucial objective within 21st-century education. This research applied content analysis to several articles published in Indonesian Applied Linguistics journals between 2014 and 2024, focusing on creative thinking as the central theme. The findings indicate a notable increase in the number of publications emphasizing creative thinking over the past four years, with qualitative research being the predominant methodology. Undergraduate students were the most frequently studied population, and a variety of materials were utilized in the research spanning the last decade. Questionnaires were the most commonly employed data collection tool, while thematic analysis was the most frequently used method for data interpretation. Based on these findings, several recommendations are offered for future research on creative thinking skills, including expanding the range of research designs and employing more refined data analysis techniques.

Abstract

As digital technology continues to reshape educational methods, understanding students' perceptions regarding Twitter's effectiveness as a learning tool for enhancing English vocabulary and reading comprehension is essential for educators and researchers seeking to optimize language learning strategies. Despite a large amount of literature on social media platforms, there has been limited exploration of the specific features of Twitter that facilitate interactive learning, group interaction, vocabulary and reading development, especially when compared to other social media platforms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions and opinions of fifth-semester students regarding the use of Twitter as a new alternative media for improving students' English vocabulary and reading skills. This research used a qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews and presented by thematic analysis. There are 10 students from the 5th semester in the English Education Department UIN Jakarta were selected as the participants through purposive sampling. According to the interview, there are 8 students who agree and they mentioned that Twitter features like the direct message, English posts, and comment sections are useful for improving their English vocabulary and reading. The study's findings demonstrate how beneficial it is for students to use Twitter as a learning media to increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension in English.
