Abstract

This article aims to study the urgency of applying journalistic ethics in online Islamic media activities. The study focuses on analyzing the seven standards of Islamic Media Literacy from Indonesian Ministry of Religion, namely (1) principles of online news production, (2) news distribution ethics, (3) accuracy and anti hoax, (4) the spirit of amar ma'ruf nahyi munkar, (5) principle of wisdom in da'wah, (6) principles in digital interaction, and 7) principle of press freedom. By using the qualitative method of library research, we argue that these seven principles could be said as journalistic ethics that must be applied in Islamic media reporting activities. These values are extremely important for Islamic media activities because the credibility of journalists and media institutions is related to public assessment which is quite determining the continuity of media life. The news in online Islamic media has different characteristics from other media. Online Islamic media cannot avoid how a text or symbol is presented in the category of fundamentalism-radicalism or moderate Islamic ideology. Problems arise when the radical Islamic ideology is more dominant than moderate Islamic ideology so that it is not uncommon for the Islamic media to get caught up in provocative actions which in some limits create disharmony for people's lives. If that is the case, the application of peaceful journalistic values becomes important to display Islamic da'wah of rahmatan li alamin.

Abstract

The way of Islamic preaching from the time of the Prophet to the present can be said to be diverse. In its development, some famous figures, scholars, and religious teachers also emerged in their respective regions. Each figure also has a different path and experience in the preaching of all fields, including the da?wa jihad carried out by Abdul Gani Kasuba in breaking up inter-religious conflicts in North Maluku. This article uses the method of library research in which is data is taken from the main resources, namely ?Sejarah Konflik dan Perdamaian di Maluku Utara (Refleksi Terhadap Sejarah Moloku Kie Raha)? and ?Konflik Komunal: Maluku 1999-2000?. As a result, the author concludes that the substance of the missionary movement of Abdul Gani Kasuba is showing a humanist person to the community when preaching, regardless of which people he preaches. He prioritizes the characteristics of ukhuwah wathaniyah that implies the importance of brotherhood based on humanity (ukhuwah basyariah).  .

Abstract

Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information stated in 2017 that it had blocked 800 thousand harmful contents, including hoax (fake news). However, Masyarakat Telematika (Mastel) Indonesia reported the results of a survey in 2019 that there were 34.60% of respondents received hoax every day. Hoaxes will have implications for harmony in society and are even very vulnerable to riots. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature review design that study the analogy between hadith and posts of Internet users that are both news or information. Hadith is information from the Prophet p.b.u.h., while posting is information that comes from Internet users. To find out whether or not a hadith is correct, rawi examines sanad and matan hadith. In the hadith science, the study of the hadith discussed in the science of rijalul hadith. In rijalul, this post will be examined on how to explore the content of the Internet media. Of course, this is in accordance with the indicators (adl, dhabit, ittishal al-sanad, bighayr illat, and bighayr syadz) in the science of rijalul hadith, and the perspective of Al-Quran will be examined. Rijalul Posting is divided into two; al-urwah date account (how to clarify posts by looking at the identity and account history) and al-jarh wa ta'dil content account (how to clarify posts). Indicators used: fair information, date of posting, clear source, complete, and polite language. Thus, these posts can be shared on websites or social media.

Abstract

The speedy advancement in internet technology has revolutionized the use of social media platforms as ways of communication globally. This paper examines the proliferations social media sites in the world and its use among the Muslims.  Unlike traditional media, most of internet based means of social interactions are user-generated. It allows the individual to determine the content of the message with or without censorship or regulation. The liberty to open an account with any site of choice and the freedom it entails, lured some Muslims to surf social media without recourse to or in line with the basic tenets of Islamic teachings.  The paper is a qualitative method where In-Depth Interviews were conducted with seasoned social users.  The researchers purposively selected three participants for the study and interview because they are Muslims and possessed the knowledge about the phenomenon investigated. Some of the findings of the study revealed that some Muslims finds it convenient to share or post unsubstantiated religious messages on social media. Similarly, it has paved way for increasing number of untrained social media preachers. This makes it a delicate tool at the disposal of some of Muslim to fan antagonism among Muslim of creeds and sects in Nigeria. The article concludes that social media is a double-edged sword which side-effects as apparent when Muslim user do not resort to the teachings of Islam as the guiding principle when surfing the social media sites. The unfettered user-generated content of social media in 21st century enables the users to operate outside the ambit of the Islamic convention of social interactions.
