Abstract

Background. Ischemia on the cells and the lack of supply of glucose, will trigger a Ca2 + influx into the cell and increased expression of glutamate. Result in mitochondrial Ca2 + Influx be "overloaded". Glucose metabolism then switched to the anaerobic process that makes ATP increasingly depleted and there acidosis. This situation makes the neuron cell apoptosis triggered to occur. Apoptosis is programmed cell death. Neuron cell apoptosis is thought to have a strong connection to the tuberculosis infection in the brain.Objective. To determine the number of cells undergoing apoptosis neurons in brain tissue of mice.Methods. This study is a semiquantitative by comparing the number of cells undergoing apoptosis neurons in the three groups of samples. Observations apoptosis of neuronal cells in the brain tissue of mice was conducted using TUNEL staining technique (terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling) are seen in a microscope with a magnification of 1000x.Results. The results showed that neuronal cells undergo apoptosis in brain tissue infected with M.tb for 8 and 16 weeks were marked with brown color in the cell nucleus. Neuron cell apoptosis were observed at M.tb-infected brain tissue for 16 weeks.Conclusion. The longer the M.tb infection can affect the increase in the number of neuronal cell apoptosis.

Abstract

Headache is one of the most common complaints presenting to primary care physicians, as well as neurologists. Although the vast majority of headache syndromes are benign, clinicians are faced with the crucial task of differentiating benign headache disorders from potentially life threatening headache. Given the broad range of disorders that present with headache, a focused and systematic approach is necessary to facilitate the prompt diagnosis and treatment of various kinds of head pain.

Abstract

Background. Stroke is a functional disorder of the brain that occurs suddenly with signs and symptoms of both focal and global clinical lasting more than 24 hours, or can lead to death due to circulatory disorders of the brain. Stroke ranks third leading cause of death in Indonesia. Someone with stroke will leading mood disruption that would cause a depression. Objective. To determine the effect on depression of stroke infarction.Methods. The study used descriptive analytic cross-sectional study. 42 samples was selected by consecutive method. The distribution of the sample are 18 males and 24 females, 23 samples below 60 years and 19 samples over 60 years, 13 samples had duration of suffering a stroke less than 6 months and 29 samples above 6 months. The independent variables in this study were age, sex, and duration of suffering a stroke, while the depression is the dependent variable. Depression was assessed using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). Results. The results used logistic regression test obtained value of (p = 0.021) is significant in age.Conclusion. The age is the determinant affecting the quality of life after stroke infarction.

Abstract

Background. Breastfeeding is an important activity to maintain and prepare the next generation in the future. The low of exclusive breastfeeding at the family is one of the triggers for low of nutritional status and it associated with neurodevelopmental delays of infants.Objective. To identify and analyze the correlation of nutritional status on neurodevelopmental development in infants aged 0-6 months who are exclusive and non-exclusive breastfeeding in Kedungkandang Health Center Malang.Methods. An observational analytic using a cross-sectional approach . The samples were taken by Consecutive Sampling technique. Data were analyzed by Spearman Rank correlation test.Results. There is a significant correlation between nutritional status with neurodevelopmental development in infants aged 0-6 months with significance value p = 0.000 ( 0.000 < 0.05 ) and the strength of correlation (r=0,552) is medium.Conclusion. There is a positive correlation between nutritional status with neurodevelopmental progress of infants aged 0-6 months who are exclusively breastfed . Exclusive breastfeeding affects the nutritional status better, then a good nutritional status affected neurodevelopmental development also better.

Abstract

Background. The concept of cognitive (from Latin cognosere, to know or to recognize) refers to the ability to process information, applying knowledge, and change the trend. cognitive function of the elderly can be optimized through a variety of ways, one of that way is the brain training game (Brain Age). The game was created specifically to train the cognitive function of elderly.Objective. To determine the effect of Brain Ag) to the improvement of cognitive function in the elderly in Malang. Methods. Quasi-experimental pretest-posttest approach, the treatment and control groups, and the sampling is done with purposive sampling to obtain the 20 respondents. Data collection instrument in this study are in general cognitive tests by using a measuring instrument MMSE. Then the data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney test showed p value 0.000 <α 0.05. Results. There is the effect of therapy brain training game (Brain Age) on increasing cognitive function of elderly in Malang.Conclusion. Therapy of brain training game (Brain Age) can be used as an alternative method of nursing actions that can be implemented in nursing geriatric and to consider inter-community cooperation between the elderly or nursing home.

Abstract

Background. UCAO (Unilateral Cerebral Artery Occlusion) is a stroke induction method by ligating mice’s carotid artery for 45 minutes. Thus giving a hypoxic condition similar to stroke attacks to human. This method is less complicated and far more efficient. MMP-9 is a stroke marker which is assayed by ELISA from the blood of test animal.Objective. To prove UCAO method is capable to raise MMP-9 concentration in mice’s blood.Methods. This research was an experimental laboratory research with post-test only controlled group design. 8 male rats (8-10 weeks) were divided into 2 groups. A day after the treatment group had been induced to stroke, both group were tested to measure the MMP-9 blood concentration through ELISA.Results. In this research, UCAO method had increased MMP-9 blood concentration in treatment group, compared to the control group. It is proved by the statistic tests, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis, which showed a significant increase in treatment group (p &lt; 0.05).Conclusion. UCAO method is accepted as a method to create an ischemic stroke mice model.

Abstract

Malaria is still becoming a health problem in the world and in Indonesia. Cerebral malaria is one of many features of severe and life threatening malaria. Many hypotheses underlying the pathophysiology of cerebral malaria have been disclosed, but the one that evolved nowdays is the hyphotesis of mechanical, permeability, humoral, and MMPs. These hypotheses proposed about biomolecular aspects of cerebral malaria and the mechanism is still not well understood. The understanding of this pathophysiology will aid the treatment of cerebral malaria. Current basic treatment of cerebral malaria is the ACT (artemisinin base combination treatment) drugs, supportive treatment and the management of its complications which is indispensable. Many research has been conducted and still in progress for finding the best optimal treatment.
