Abstract

Women are often victims of gender discrimination in various fields, including in the work environment. This research article aims to statistically evaluate the status of women’s employment and occupational accidents in some countries where regular data are available, and to provide predictions in the future. Using quantitative methods, data were analyzed with panel data analysis, bivariate correlation and two-step clustering methods. The findings of this study indicate that there is a positive and stronger correlation between work-injury for women than for men in all but a few developed social welfare countries. In some countries, while the correlation is negative for men, it is positive and strong for women. This study concludes that existing preventive regulations, including those in developed countries, are not sufficient to protect women. Women are more likely to work in non-traditional sectors where occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations are more flexible. Therefore, public authorities related to OHS should focus more on the conditions of this new industry in the future.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the pressing health issues that requires serious attention and immediate intervention. This study aimed to assess the causes of stunting, the challenges faced by communities in ensuring nutrition for children, the management of stunting, and the efforts needed to optimize stunting intervention in rural areas. This study employed a qualitative approach with a total of 30 families having stunted children as informants. The study reveals that preventive measures against stunting should commence early, even during pregnancy. Apart from nutritional deficiencies, equally important contributing factors are inadequate maternal knowledge, recurrent or chronic infections, poor sanitation, and limited healthcare access. One pivotal step in preventing stunting is empowering and centralizing the role of mothers, who should be committed actors in the stunting prevention process. In a child’s growth and development, exclusive breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary feeding demands attention. Understanding child growth stages is crucial for parents to prevent stunting. Although most parents are aware of the significance of meeting their child’s nutritional needs, economic constraints and lack of awareness still hinder some parents from giving extra attention to this matter.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to investigate the underlying social and cultural determinants that influence the utilization of child delivery services in the Buner district, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The research focused on a specific demographic group, namely pregnant women and their husbands aged between 15 and 49 years. A sample of 200 participants was selected using a multistage sampling technique, and data was collected through structured questionnaires employing mixed methods. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS, utilizing statistical tools like frequency distribution tables for univariate analysis and the chi-square test for bivariate analysis. The study showed a strong connection between socio-cultural factors and the child delivery system, with evident implications for the maternal health framework. The results of the chi-square test highlighted the strength of this association, as the calculated value (190.627) was significantly greater than the tabulated value (9.488) at a significance level of 0.05. The research highlights the impact of socio-demographic factors, including cultural barriers, extended family structures, and economic disparities, on maternal health services and their relationship with the utilization of antenatal care services. To improve the situation, it is important to focus on improving education, raising awareness, promoting women's empowerment, addressing socioeconomic disparities, and transforming traditional beliefs prevalent within the local community.

Abstract

This article explains the current overview of the UNESCO Global Geoparks condition in Indonesia as well as putting public diplomacy of Indonesian UNESCO Global Geoparks into a global context. This article will be useful for all stakeholders involved in developing Indonesian UNESCO Global Geoparks in the future. An analysis of the challenges and lessons learned from Natuna is combined in this study with the views of individual stakeholders in Indonesia. Contextual information about the importance of Indonesian tourism of UNESCO Global Geoparks is derived from many references as well as documents. The research adopts a qualitative method. The analysis explains the circumstances of lack of enthusiasm at this time toward the UNESCO Global Geoparks concept by respective stakeholders in Indonesia. There is a need to see UNESCO Global Geoparks as part of efforts to achieve some of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. The Indonesian government accepts the idea of UNESCO Global Geopark growth, which can become an approach in post-COVID-19 tourism recovery planning as well as part of the SDGs' 2030 goals in Indonesia. Future development of Indonesian UNESCO Global Geoparks in the global context is important for Indonesian public diplomacy and very significant for the COVID-19 recovery of the Indonesian leisure industry and in line with the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

Abstract

Seeing a social sign, results in striving to derive the meaning from the sign when it is used. One of the events that appear in various types of social sign is a disaster. It creates various myths that also act as a social sign; one of them is a myth about the relationship between humans and nature. This study aims to explain the perception of the local community in the Sumber Mujur village of Semeru Mountain Slope about social signs made as myth postdisaster eruption in 2022. The myth that is believed by the local community proved to have relevance to ecological sustainability. This research uses qualitative methods through deep interviewing technique. Informants in this study are a local community in the Semeru Mountain area, East Java which is part of the 2021 Semeru eruption survivors. Based on existing findings, most myths grow in line with a scientific view. Although the background or ways of working is different, myth and logos have compatible relevance in the context of ecology sustainability. This study concludes that myths give impact on society's attitude so as to maintain ecological sustainability, as well as a form of cultural adaptation, both in terms of conservation awareness and mitigation.

Abstract

Adaptation to the norms of nation-states has always been one of the most important issues for Southeast Asian countries. This paper takes Aceh and Western Papua as examples to explore their interaction with the central government of Indonesia and try to answer why local authorities have different responses after implementing the indirect rule. This study mainly uses process tracking methods to test the interaction between the central and local governments in Indonesia. This study believes that trust is the fundamental factor that determines whether the local authorities and the central government can have a positive interaction. This reason will change the central government in the process of State-building. The study found that Aceh and Western Papua had different feedback to the central government. The key lies in whether they form a "trust” interaction, rather than whether they adopt an inclusive system (democratic system). This study concluded the feedback difference between Aceh and Western Papua as a classic case shows that, as a country, it is not only represented by the central government but also needs the "trust” of the central government and local authorities to form good governance, as well as national development effective.

Abstract

Utilization of social capital is considered capable of addressing conflicts that arise in rural areas, especially those related to tourist areas that are part of community empowerment programs. This study examines the crucial role of social capital in dealing with conflicts arising from the transition from the tourism sector to mining in Pangkal Niur Village. This study used qualitative methods. The analysis results depict in-depth how social capital significantly mitigates conflicts between the tourism and mining sectors. The implications of this social capital are also highlighted in the context of modernization and globalization, especially concerning the local community in Pangkal Niur Village. Additionally, this research emphasizes the importance of social relationships in forming the basis of trust, cooperation, and community participation. In the context of post-mining land restoration efforts, sustainable actions are crucial to reduce environmental damage caused by such functional changes, especially in regions with significant mining sectors like Bangka Belitung. The findings of this research have broad implications, especially in environmental management and sustainable development. The study concludes that social capital can play a role in resolving conflicts, but continuous efforts are still needed to preserve the environment and enhance community well-being.

Abstract

The relocation of the capital city to East Kalimantan is a megaproject contained in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) for 2020-2024. Despite the pros and cons, this megaproject is targeted to be completed in the next 15 years. This research focuses on explaining the impact of the relocation of the Nusantara Capital City from a national security perspective for Indonesia in the future, considering that Indonesia is a large country in Southeast Asia and the backbone of ASEAN. To answer the question, this research uses an explorative qualitative approach, with library research as an analysis technique. This technique collects the information by collecting and analyzing the documents, journals, books, and media information related to the object of research. The theory used in this research is national security and it is found that the policy of relocating the capital city will have a positive impact on Indonesia in the future, as seen from various national security sectors such as from the economy to the environment. On the other hand, it can also pose a new threat to Indonesia from the socio-cultural sector.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to study about repatriation of Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) to Indonesia who went to Syria by analyzing the factors such as risk of involving in terrorist attacks in Indonesia, which are influencing Indonesia's refusal and its implications on a state's counterterrorism efforts. The present study is carried out using qualitative research method and the data collected from secondary sources including research articles, newspapers and books related to the FTF phenomenon. To address this issue, the Indonesian government is considering a strategy to minimize negative consequences from the return of Indonesian individuals associated with terrorist activities from overseas. The results show that the Indonesian government has calculated the benefits and drawbacks of either returning foreign terrorist fighters' home or not. In the process, the government ultimately decided against the FTFs' repatriation, citing the need to safeguard millions of people's security from the danger of terrorism as a national priority for Indonesia. It concludes that the accepting repatriation of FTF by Indonesia would support human rights efforts in giving them fair trials if they have committed crimes and it will prevent them from being stateless.

Abstract

As global demographics gravitate toward aging populations, developing nations, Indonesia included, face the demanding obligation of providing adequate healthcare and social services for their elderly demographic, particularly in rural areas. This paper delves into the complexities of elderly care in Trenggalek Regency, situated in East Java, Indonesia, where it centers on describing the firsthand experiences of the elderly residents and their challenges in accessing healthcare, maintaining financial stability, and navigating the adequacy of infrastructure. Insights revealed the notions of elderly public service, pointing out both progress and challenges in affordable care, with many seniors relying on limited family support and resorting to informal work to sustain themselves, while mobility issues, including transportation deficits and challenging terrain, deepen their social isolation. However, it also spotlights ongoing local policy endeavors, crafted to address these challenges, acknowledging the pressing need for change and striving to elevate the quality of elderly care services. In doing so, the paper offers practical insights into elderly care disparities in developing country contexts and emphasizes the vital role played by rural elderly communities in shaping proper interventions, valuing their insights and experiences in sculpting the future of geriatric care in Trenggalek and beyond.
