Abstract

Peningkatan keamanan pangan menggunakan bahan alami, seperti kunyit, kencur, dan temulawak sebagai suplemen pada pakan disebabkan karena bahan tersebut memiliki sifat yang ramah lingkungan, biodegradable, dan mudah ditemukan di alam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis suplemen herbal dan padat tebar yang efektif dalam meningkatkan status kesehatan ikan ditinjau dari profil hematologis. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap pola Faktorial. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah dosis suplemen herbal (D1= 100 mL/kg pakan, D2= 200 mL/kg pakan, dan D3 = 300 mL/kg pakan) dan padat tebar ikan P1 = 50 ekor/ m3 dan P2 = 75 ekor/ m3. Ikan patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus) yang digunakan berukuran 8-12 cm, pemeliharaan dilakukan selama 60 hari di keramba jaring apung berukuran 1,5x1x1m. Pengambilan sampel darah dilakukan sebanyak tiga kali, yakni sebelum perlakuan, kedua pada hari ke-30 dan hari ke-60 pemeliharaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan dosis suplemen herbal 200 mL/kg pakan dan padat tebar 75 ekor/m3 yang dipelihara selama 60 hari memberikan hasil tertinggi terhadap profil hematologis, yaitu total eritrosit sebesar 2,81 x 106 sel/mm3, nilai hematokrit 39,00%, kadar hemoglobin 10,73 g/dL, total leukosit 11,41 x 104 sel/mm3 dan kelulusanhidup 100%. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi padat tebar 75 ekor/m3 dan dosis suplemen herbal 200 mL/kg pakan adalah yang terbaik untuk peningkatan kesehatan ikan patin.

Abstract

Newcastle Disease or tetelo is one of main problem in poultry Industry in Indonesia. Prevention such as biosecurity control and routin vaccination program have been conducted to overcome this problem, but they have not given any great impact. Phyllanthus Niruri L. or meniran is well known as immunostimulatory. This research was aimed to reveal effect of Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract on chicken vaccinated with live vaccine LaSota. Administration of Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract was conducted on three different time which were 7 days before vaccination, 1 days after vaccination, and 3 days before and after vaccination. The amount of Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract administered were 2 ml, 2.5 ml, and 3 ml orally. Data of antibody titre were collected for 4 weeks after the treatment. It was obtained by measuring the antibody through Haemagglutination Inhibition test each week. According to the result Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract could increase the amount of antibody titre against Newcastle Disease. The amount of Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract given that capable to induced maximum of antibody titre was administered 1 days after the vaccination with amount 2.5 ml. It is suggested that Phyllanthus Niruri L. extract should be administered post vaccination to boost antibody synthesis.

Abstract

Flu burung atau Avian influenza (AI) subtipe H5N1, termasuk kelompok Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) yang masih mengancam industri perunggasan, kesehatan manusia, dan sejumlah spesies burung liar. Itik merupakan reservoir alami virus AI H5N1 dan diduga kuat dapat menularkan virus ke unggas lain maupun manusia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seroprevalensi virus AI subtipe H5N1 pada itik bali di dua pasar yang menjual hewan hidup yaitu Pasar Hewan Beringkit di Kabupaten Badung dan Pasar Umum Galiran di Klungkung, Bali. Total sampel yang diambil sebanyak 120 serum itik bali, yang diambil dari itik umur lebih dari tiga bulan dan tidak divaksinasi AI subtipe H5N1. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan sebanyak empat kali dengan interval waktu dua minggu dari masing-masing pasar tersebut. Semua sampel serum tersebut selanjutnya diuji dengan uji Hambatan Hemaglutinasi (HI). Hasil uji menunjukan bahwa seroprevalensi AI subtipe H5N1 di Pasar Hewan Beringkit sebesar 20,0%, sedangkan di Pasar Umum Galiran sebesar 23,3%. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa itik bali yang disampling dari kedua pasar tersebut pernah terpapar virus AI H5N1 secara alami. Surveilans dan monitoring serta tindakan pencegahan secara berkala perlu dilakukan untuk mencegah penyebaran penyakit AI H5N1 di pasar hewan.

Abstract

Research related to the optimization of cow performans is done through concentrate feed and reproduction technology. This research was conducted in 2018 in Musi Village, Gerokgak Sub-district, Buleleng Regency, Bali. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 feed treatments and used 7 pregnant cows as replicates. The treatment is carried out when the cows enters 7 months pregnancy. Treatments tested: P0 cows given forage + rice bran 1 kg /cow/day + Bio Cas 5 ml/cow/day (mating with males), P1 = P0 cows mated with Artificial Imsemination (IB), P2 cows given forage + concentrates 1 kg/cow/day + bio cas 5 ml/cow/day (mating with a male), and P3 = P2 cattle mated with IB. Parameters observed that the parent body weight, weight gain calf, calf birth weight, weaning weight, calving interval, dry matter intake and feed rations convertions ratio. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance, if there are significant differences (P <0.05), followed by LSD 5%. The results showed that cows given feed concentrates and mated with IB (P3) result in weight gain of 0.52 kg/calf/ day was significantly higher (P <0.05) of P0 (0.40 kg/calf/day). Consumption of dry matter ration for P3 (2.59 kg) was significantly less (P <0.05) than P0 (2.87 kg) and resulted in the highest weight gain causing P3 FCR value of 4.98 was significantly lower than P0. Calf birth weight of all treatments showed no significant difference (P>0.05), but calf weight gain for P3 0.57 kg/calf/day was highest (P <0.05) compared to treatments P0 and P1 so that weaning weight calves P3 to 121.43 kg was significantly higher (P <0.05) than treatments P0 and P1. Estrus post partus for P3 is 2.87 months and calving interval is 12.36 months shorter than other treatments. This shows that the cows whose given concentrate feed mated through artificial insemination / males cattle produces the highest birth weight and calf weaning and short calving intervals.

Abstract

Periodontal disease is the most common disease affecting pet animals including cats and dogs. This disease can cause pain and discomfort affecting the animal’s life quality. The purpose of this study is to evaluate periodontal disease from dental radiographs taken from male domestic short hair cats. Eight male domestic short hair cats from Universitas Padjadjaran Jatinangor campus were recruited for the study. This study observed several changes within the periodontium from dental radiography with simple quantification and analyzed using descriptive analysis. Dental radiographs were taken on the second right mandibula premolar (408). Several changes found in the dental radiography including widening of the periodontal ligament, bone loss and furcation involvement. This study shows varied changes in the periodontium due to the cat’s immune responses. The examined cats were experiencing widening of the periodontal ligament, bone loss and furcation involvement (37.5%, 25% and 87.5%) respectively. All cats examined were experiencing periodontal disease.

Abstract

Mackerel tuna (Euthynnus affinis) brine salting is a famous seafood product in Indonesia due to its good nutrition content. Bacterial contamination on this product may increase risk of foodborne diseases to happen, in addition to a decrease in quality and nutritionous value of the product. The main objective of this research was to identify bacteria contaminating the brine salting Mackerel tuna (Euthynnus affinis) sold in Tradisional Markets in Klungkung, Bali, Indonesia. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was apllied in the process of identification of bacterial contaminants. Samples were collected from 5 fish kiosks at the Tradisional market in Klungkung, Bali Indonesia. Each sample was cultured in Blood Agar or Nutrient Agar. Colonies with different morfology were selected, enriched in Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), and their DNA was extracted before being amplified with 16S rRNA primers. This PCR products were then sequenced, and the results were compared with those available in the geneBank. Basic Local Alignment Search Tool was conducted with help of MEGA software version 6. Seven bacterial species were identified, and these included Serratia nematodiphila, Bacillus cereus, Shewanella seohaensis, Vibrio alginolyticus, Kurthia gibsonii, Enterobacter cloacae, and Staphylococcus sciuri. All but one Kurthia gibsonii are potensial pathogens in human. Staphylococcus sciuri is not commonly found in seafood. The present of such species in the mackerel tuna brine salting product was probably due to poor handling during the process and distribution.

Abstract

This study aim at determining the activity of ethanol extract of Robusta green coffee beans as an antiproliferation agent in MCA-B1, MCM-B2, and Vero normal cell lines as a control. Ethanol extract of Robusta green coffee beans was obtained by maceration method, bioactive compounds in the extract were tested by phytochemical screening methods, testing levels of antioxidants were tested by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method, cytotoxicity effects (LC50) were tested by the method Brine Shrimp Lethallity Test (BSLT) and antiproliferation activity were carried out by counting the number of cells after being tested with several extract concentrations namely 100, 250, 400, 550, 700 and 850 ppm and doxorubicin as a positive control with a concentration of 100 ppm. The results showed that the ethanol extract of Robusta green coffee beans contained flavonoids and tannins, had very strong antioxidant levels with IC50 values of 40.9923 ppm, cytotoxicity effects obtained LC50 values of 430.64 ppm, and the highest antiproliferation activity was achieved at a concentration of 850 ppm at 69.58 % in MCM-B2 tumor cells, 60.46% in MCA-B1 tumor cells, and 14.2% in Vero normal cells. Based on the results, the ethanol extract of Robusta Lampung green coffee beans has antiproliferation activity on the test tumor cells and is relatively non-toxic to normal cells.

Abstract

A Golden Retriever bitch, 10 years old, came to the Animal Hospital of Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia, her conditions was discharge from the vagina, stink smell, polyuria, polydipsia and swelling in the vaginal area that begin to appear one month ago. Physical examination results found her weight 30 kg, scored three for body condition score (scale 1-5), body temperature at 38ºC, pale mucous membrane, and Capillart Reill Time > 2 seconds. Hard mass was palpable in the vaginal area. Based on the anamnesis, physical examination and clinical symptoms, the bitch appeared have some different diagnosis such as pyometra, endometritis, vaginitis, and vaginal tumors. Hematology, radiograph, and histopathological laboratory tests were performed to confirm the diagnosis. Hematologic results showed the bitch suffered from leukocytosis of 41.7 x 103/?L, granulocytosis 36.5 x 103/?L, and hyperchromic microcytic anemia. The results of the radiograph examination showed a radiopaque solid mass in the vagina and uterus. The results of the histopathological examination found there were hyperchromasia nuclei and pleomorphism of fibroblast cell, and formation spindles cell of connective tissue. Based on the results of physical examination, hematological test, radiographic test, and histopathology, the dog was diagnosed with fibrosarcoma in the vagina. The treatment of this case was ovariohysterectomy and removal of the vaginal tumor. Early diagnosis and early treatment largely determine the patient’s prognosis, metastatic vaginal fibrosarcoma tumors showed poor prognosis.

Abstract

Currently, the information about Javan langurs female reproductive cycle in both cycle length and hormonal patterns is still widely unknown. Meanwhile, this information can be used as a guide in determining the fertile period of Javan langurs to conduct mating with higher pregnancy rate. The purpose of this study was to determine the reproductive cycle of adult female Javan langurs based on estrogen and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels. The experimental animals was originated from Coban Talun forest in Batu, which was undergoing a rehabilitation program. Feces samples of two female Javan langurs were taken for 40 days. Examination of estrogen and LH hormone levels in the feces was carried out by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that fluctuations in the graphs of the hormones estrogen and LH appeared on days 8 to 16 and days 30 to 40 which showed the existence of two reproductive cycles. Whereas younger langur showed a pattern of hormonal fluctuations that are less regular, making identification of the reproductive cycle difficult. Based from the results, we concluded that the reproductive cycle of female Javan langur was estimated about 24 days with a hormonal pattern consisting of the follicular phase, the ovulation period and the luteal phase.
