The objectives of the research are: 1) To identify textual meaning realized in the speech of “Hillary Clinton’s keynote address at the 2015 women in the world summit. 2) To find out the dominant Theme realized in the speech of Hillary Clinton’s keynote address at the 2015 women in the world. 3) To know the implication of textual meaning on speech. The writer used following steps: a) Listen the speech of Hillary Clinton’s and determining the sentences want to analyze, b) identifying the speech based on the types of theme, c) grouping the types of theme each clause to get the most dominant theme of speech, (d) implicating of textual meaning on speech, (e) interpreting the findings. The results of this research are (1) the realization of textual meaning in Hillary Clinton’s speech identified each clause to be clauses of the text. There are Topical Theme, Textual Theme and Interpersonal Theme. (2) The dominant theme realized in speech of Hillary Clinton is Topical Theme. (3) The implication textual meaning analysis in speech are known the structure of functional grammar. From the speech, the researcher found out many clauses in it. Based on the analysis, the researcher found 78 clause of topical theme, 39 clause of textual theme, 2 clause of interpersonal theme. So, topical theme is the dominant theme with 54,6% from all themes. Finally, the writer would like to offer some suggestion to learners that they should be able to learn about textual meaning. The teacher may use that speech to material of teaching Functional Grammar. The students may use this speech as a new reference to improve their analysis in Functional Grammar ability.

The objectives of this study are: 1) to find out the meaning of metaphorical symbols in Linkin Park’s song lyrics; 2) to find out the contribution of Linkin Park’s song lyrics to teaching poetry. In this study, the writer applies the descriptive qualitative approach in this study to analyze implicit meaning of metaphorical symbols used in Linkin Park’s song lyrics. Besides that, the writer wants to describe its contribution to teaching poetry. The finding show that the writer found 38 metaphorical symbols in the five Linkin Park’s song lyric. It consists of 4 symbols in the Numb, 14 symbols in Hands Held High, 5 symbols in What I’ve done, 5 symbols in New Divide, 10 symbols in Final Masquerade. Through using those song lyrics, the students can learn the figurative languages which can be found in those song lyrics, especially metaphorical symbols. The students can understand the meaning of the metaphorical symbols which can enrich their vocabulary through learn the examples of implicit meaning analysis in this study. So they are able to choose and combine the appropriate dictions. Finally, they will be able to create a good poetry which has deep and beautiful meaning. The writer suggests that the teachers should use an appropriate and interesting learning source in teaching writing and appreciating poetry. Song lyrics in Linkin Park consist of a lot of words, phrases, and sentences with the figurative language, especially metaphorical symbols which has implicit and deep meaning. Through delivering those songs lyrics, the students will get the inspiration and motivation in writing and appreciating poetry.

Reading journal is one way to record students’ independent learning based on text they read. This study was conducted to fnd out the students’ level of reading comprehension through some notes written in the reading journal, the extent to which the activity of writing reading journals improved students’ reading comprehension, whether the students got beneft from reading journal. There were 80 respondents coming from three different classes in Majalengka University were asked to read a text related to the subject they learned in a certain session. Then they were assigned to write a journal that records the things they had read. When this task was fnished, the lecturer ran a quiz containing related questions to check whether they really understood the content of the text. Afterwards, students were to fll in a questionnaire regarding their opinion on the impact of the reading journal toward their reading comprehension. The fndings indicate that more than half of the participants appear to understand the material well, and the task plays a certain role in improving students’ understanding in reading comprehension. The most crucial thing is that most students think they get benefit by writing the reading journal.

The objectives of the research are: 1) to identify textual meaning realized in the dialogue of drama script “Diversity”. 2) to know the dominant theme realized and the reason of dominant theme realized in the dialogue of drama script “Diversity”. 3) to know the contribution of drama script on textual meaning analysis in English Language Teaching. This research is categorized as qualitative descriptive. The instrument of this research was using textual meaning analysis of drama script “Diversity” that was performed on January 6th, 2016 by the seventh students semester in English drama performance. To collect the data, the researcher found the clauses and identified the data. The clauses consist of 194 clauses. According to textual meaning analysis, the researcher found 92 clauses of topical theme, 50 clauses of interpersonal theme, 52 clauses and 50 clauses of textual theme. So, the topical theme is the dominant theme with 47,4% from all themes. This research can give a contribution to the English language teaching in learning systemic functional grammar especially in textual meaning analysis. The lecturer can use this media that is drama script as a media to explain the material about textual meaning analysis. Through this way, the students can learn easily without reading a thick book. On the basis of conclusion, several suggestions can be offered. The lecturer may use that drama script in learning systemic functional grammar especially in textual meaning analysis. The learners may use this drama script as other alternative reference in learning systemic functional grammar especially in textual meaning analysis to improve their analysis in modern grammar ability.

The research was pointed to progress the students’ speaking abilities of the tenthof SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan by actualizing the role-play technique. It was carried out based on the strategy that had been arrangedsome time recently. The observation was action research. It was conducted in three cycles with one assembly in the to begin with cycle and 2 gatherings in the moment and third cycle. The subjects of this inquire about were 32 students of lesson tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan. The subjectiveinformation were collected by watching the educating and learning handle, and meeting the students, the instructor and the collaborators. Phonology of Tamil language and Indonesia is very different. Several words are loanwords that are taken from Tamil language. Approximately 30 loanwords of Indonesian are taken from Tamil language. It is possible phonological changes occurred when the words is absorbed into Indonesian language. This study aims to investigate phonological changes that occur in the process of Tamil language absorption into Indonesia language and explains the phonological rules of the changes sound. In this study the writer uses the list of loanwords contained in the article owned by Russel Jones entitled “Loan Word in Contemporary Indonesia”. In method of collecting data, the writer is using noting technique and observation. Then in analyzing the data, the writer uses theory of transformational generative phonology .The result of this study proves that in a loanword there is more than one sound change. The writer found vocal and consonant sound changes in the process of Tamil absorption. There are three types of vocal changes sound; they are assimilation vocal sound, deletion vocal sound and coalescence of vocal sound. Therefore, in consonant sound changes the writer found only two types of sound changes; they are assimilation consonant and deletion consonant. The writer hopes this study will be useful for the next researcher who wants to do a research on foreign language especially in Tamil language.

The objectives of this research are (1) to explain a tutorial in creating Flexiquiz web application to essential vocabulary learning for the TOEFL, (2) to explain the Flexiquiz web application to essential vocabulary learning for the TOEFL as a learning strategy in combining the user manual with the web application for online learning, (3) to know users’ responses towards the online TOEFL quiz in essential vocabulary learning using Flexiquiz web application. This study is a qualitative research type and it is categorized as descriptive research because it is aimed to describe a learning strategy using Flexiquiz web application that can be manifested as materials integrartion. The practice questions that are available in Flexiquiz web application are taken from a book entitled “Barron’s: Essential Word for the TOEFL”. It means that the writer joined between the book with the Flexiquiz web application. The data gathered in this study are a questionnaire and a test result using Flexiquiz. The results of this study expose that the users of the Flexiquiz web application have interest to use Flexiquiz web application as online strategy to learn. Two features of Flexiquiz web application that can improve learning in vocabulary are; Grading and Review Answer. The conclusion can be drawn in this study shows the result that online learning using Flexiquiz web application is interesting, fun and easy.

In a fast-changing digital age, English language learners face growing demands to advance their familiarity with a ramification of on-line tools (Conole, 2008). technologies are changing the way we teach and learn in many respects. In teaching learning we aren't simplest cultivate the college students’ comprehensive characteristics however also increase their autonomous learning ability. because of this, the present article explored whether a developing independent gaining knowledge of using internet should improve the college students’ typical English overall performance greater correctly than the conventional English teaching placing. The aim of this experimental examine is to decide if internet may be an effective tool building language freshmen’ content expertise and writing talents. The study involved 15 advanced students of Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama University of Kebumen. Both quantitative and qualitative data collected from post‐surveys, transcribed digital recordings, blog reflections, and final interviews were analyzed. The findings provide the the statistics showed that internet empowered college students to apply their very own self‐expression and self-reflection and that social interaction helped set up a feel of community wherein students have the ability in constructing building language learners’ content knowledge

The objectives of the study are: (1) to find out is the students’ ability to writing report text taught using tourism brochure, (2) to find out is the students’ to writing report text taught using picture, and (3) to find out whether or not there is a significant different of writing report text between the students who are taught using tourism brochure and taught using picture. This study used true experimental design. The writer used experimental class and control class. The subject of the study was the eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Godong-Purwodadi. There were 5 classes with 200 students. The writer chose XI mipa 3 with 40 students as the experimental class and XI mipa 4 with 40 students as the control class. The result of the study shows that the students’ ability in learning process has significant difference between Tourism Brochure and Picture as media. It could be seen the average score of post-test between experimental class was 78,6 and control class was 68,3. In other hand, the t-test formula shows that t-test is higher than t-table, where 8,91> 2,021 (on a level significance 5%). It means that the improvement in post-test of experimental class was higher than control class. The used Tourism Brochure as media in enhancing students’ ability in studying English writing report tex. Therefore, the positive hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the negative hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. From the results, the writer concludes that the use of Tourism Brochure as a media significantly enhance students writing report text. Moreover, the writer suggests to teachers to use Tourism Brochure as a media to make easy and help students in writing report text and explore their ides, so that they are motivated to study English.

The aim of this research is to compare the headline of two online media platform in Indonesia; the Republika and Media Indonesia. This research use qualitative descriptive analysis method. The data is analyzed using the Lexical Functional Grammar as an approach. The purpose of using Lexical Functional Grammar is to take a deep look on how the headline news is constructed, as Lexical Functional Grammar is also completed with Constituent Structure, Functional Structure, and Lexical Entry. This research found that there is a difference in the headline construction of Republika and Media Indonesia. Republika tends to use argument ellipsis or additional adjunct and complement. The use of adjunct and complement is to replace the use if the argument elapsed in the headline. Meanwhile, Media Indonesia tends to use complete and standard sentence as their headlines. Even when the headline uses adjunct, actually, without the adjunct the headline in Media Indonesia is already acceptable as Media Indonesia’s headline use complete argument and predicate as the base of their headline.
