Abstract

Excavated wells provide water that source from unsaturated land, so it easily contaminated by seepage so thatwater quality reduction potentially happen. Anxiously wells water quality reduction will happen in consequences frombad sanitation, like household waste water seepage, chemistries cesspool, laundry, etc. This research applied comparatively descriptive characteristic approach quantitative method. Well water wassample taken from 9 units on February and 9 units on April 2008. Sample unit was taken by purposive sampling methodfor excavated wells and random sampling method for water sample. Analysis result for well water was compared withquality standard of Bali Governor regulation No.8 ‘2007 and with quality standard of Health Minister RepublicIndonesian Rule No.907 ‘2002 and also pollution index according to Minister of Alive Environment Decision No.115‘2003. Water quality was calculated based on pollution index correlated with physical environment condition withSpearmen test (Rho) and measuring society behaviour by Sturges.Research result shows that in February for parameter BOD, Fe and total coliform slightly exceeded water qualitystandard and in April 2008 for parameter DO, BOD, Fe and total coliform slightly exceeded water quality standard class Iand drinking water quality standard. Pollution Index (IP) with result for all well water researched is under 5 (five) that is(1 < IP ? 5) classified is low pollution. By using Spearmen analysis, so that alternative hypothesis unaccepted, wellphysical environment condition (IS) not in correlated to excavated wells water standard quality with Rho ( ? ) 0,147 andsignificance 0,705 more than ? 5 %. Interview result shows that 9, 10 % respondents have good behaviour and 90, 9 %respondents have understanding behaviour in maintaining clean water resource managed.Suggested to local government of Denpasar city this related to clean water (PDAM) to improve distribution ofclean water so that can fulfil 100% clean water necessity of the city. Particularly to Public Health Centre I SouthDenpasar is expected to conducting chlorinization regularly to public. Society is expected to improve well physicalenvironment condition and increases healthy life behaviour.

Abstract

The first aim of this research is to know the capacity of infiltration and the capacity of percolation in the area ofDenpasar city. The second things is to know how much the water of rainfall potential to be infiltrated in Denpasar city.Capacity of infiltration and capacity of percolation tested by using the double ring infiltrometer with innercylinder diameter is 30 cm and outer cylinder is 50 cm. Volume of potential infiltrated rain water calculated bymultiplied the rainfall by catchment area and coefficient of infiltration. The findings show that the capacity of infiltration is about 0.05 mm/hour to 0.211 mm/hour, and the capacity ofpercolation is about 0.125 mm/hour to 0.471 mm/hour. Potential volume of infiltration of rain water is 25,405,028.77m3/year, it mean that about 10 % of total rainfall volume, 252,560,182.68 m3/year, so about 227,155,153.91 m3/year willbe a potential to increasing the surface run off.Based on the findings the following suggestions can be made: (1) further research should be done with the dept ofpercolation test should be about 2 m, and 20 cm above the water table; (2) it is necessary to infiltrate rainwater alltogether by the community of the city of Denpasar, by using a hole of 2 m3 each 100 m2 area.

Abstract

Garbage Dump (GD) of Suwung which is located at the Village of Pedungan, South Denpasar District is dump ofgarbage coming from the City of Denpasar and Badung Regency. GD of Suwung operates with open dumping so that it ispotential to pollute the surrounding shallow ground water. This study was conducted to know the characteristics ofleachate, its effect to the quality of water around the GD and the quality of water according to water standard quality forthe need of drinking water and its status of its Pollution Index. This study was conducted with the taking of water sampleof leachate, taken in two locations, in the northern part of the GD and in the southern part of the GD. The water sample ofshallow ground water was taken at 4 location samples by considering the distance of the location from the GD. In eachlocation sample, 10 sample points were taken which were then composited into one. The analysis of physical, chemical, and microbiological characteristics of leachate and the quality of shallow ground water was done in-situ and in thelaboratory. The results obtained from the analysis compared them descriptively with tables and graphs and calculation ofthe Pollution Index (PI) of the quality of shallow underground water. The results of the study show that all the parameters of leachate did not meet the requirement of Standard Qualityof Domestic Waste Water Regulation of Bali Governor Number 8 of 2007. The quality of leachate from the Suwung GDaffected the quality of shallow ground water in all locations (L1, L2, and L3). The greatest effect in the location whosedistance is between 1 – 125 m from the GD (L1) is parameter of TDS, BOD5, COD, DO, PO4, NO3, NO2, NH3, Fe, Cl,H2S, Phenol, and total Coliform, the location whose distance is between 125 – 250 m from the GD (L2) is the parameter of TDS, BOD5, COD, DO, PO4, NO2, NH3, Cl, H2S, Phenol, and total Coliform, and the location whose distance isbetween 250 – 375 m from the GD (L3) is the parameter of BOD5, COD, DO, PO4, NO2, NH3, H2S, Phenol, and TotalColiform. At the location is far from the GD as a control location (L4) is the parameter of DO, PO4, NO2, NH3, Phenol, and Total Coliform. For the Index of Pollution in the sample locations L1, L2, and L3 was categorized into heavilypolluted level and L4 (as control) was categorized into lightly polluted level.

Abstract

Coral reef ecosystem has become a centre of interest because of the development of marine tourism development, coral fragment trade, and other activities that are able to destroy coral reef ecosystem. ALOS with AVNIR-2 sensor wasselected because it has 3 visible spectrums which have the ability of penetration into water column, also it have highenough of spatial resolution i.e.10 meters. The aims of this research are: 1) to identify the level of accuracy of ALOS satellite image in activity for coral reefdistribution mapping and 2) to identify the general condition of coral reefs in around Badung Strait.Preliminary processes of image processing are geometric correction and atmosphere correction. Water columneffect was reduced by Lyzenga Algorithm. Five classes were determined by multispectral classification process e.i. coral, vegetation, sand, rubble of coral and substrate. Ground check was done to identify the accuracy level. The methodaccuracy by Lillesand and Kiefer was used in this research. The result of accuracy test shows that classification accuracy was 87.16% for overall accuracy. Results of imageinterpretation show that live coral in around Badung strait is estimated to have about 141,056 hectares width. It wascovering Denpasar Regency in the east and south-east side of Serangan Island with the fringing reef type; KlungkungRegency in the west side of Lembongan Island with the fringing reef type and in the south side with the platform type, while in Gianyar Regency was not found the coral reef distribution.

Abstract

Euthrofication that caused by nitrate and phosphate contamination and also sedimentation process is the mainproblem that took place in Benoa Bay Territorial water. The distribution of phosphate pollutant in Benoa bay territorialwater was modeled by numeric of Princeton Ocean model (POM). The input of this pollutant model were a tidal currentpattern, M2 tidal current residue, biological factor, physic and chemistry, that influenced pollutant concentration.Meanwhile, the sedimentation concentration was mapped with ALOS AVNIR-2 sensor image satellite and this image wasanalysed with statistic method (Linear Regression). The result of phosphate modeling concentration was 0.1 mg/1 to 0.0022 mg/1, where the concentration wascategorized very hazardous to the territorial water environment. Because the phosphate concentration in a pollutantresources was beyond the standard level of environmental quality, that was 0.015 mg/1 for fishery cultivation and alsotourism activity (Bali Governor Regulation No.8th 2007). While, the direction of the distribution was affected by currentpattern of movement, that was when the ebb level of high water moving into the bay and when the ebb to high tidemoving out of the bay.The result of statistic approaches with ALOS of AVNIR-2 censor can be used for mapping sedimentationdistribution advantages in Benoa Bay. The values were: R2 Band 1 is 0.3839, Band 2 is 0.6123 and Band 3 is 0.5468. Inthis methodology, the correlation was not significant, due to, the quantity of in-situ data was small and the time researchwas not at the same time with satellite data.

Abstract

Banda sea is subjected to external force such as El Nino South Oscillation (ENSO), Indonesian Through Flow (ITF) andMonsoon. All of these component Combined with Current System, caused sea dynamic. This study aimed to get further knowledge aboutBanda sea dynamic. Based on this phenomenon , this study was conducted with an hypothesis that sea level anomaly (SLA) and seasufrace temperature (SST) will decrease during ENSO event. Also that SLA and SST will seasonally change concerning with Monsoon. The pattern of current in eastern of Banda sea will be seasonally different concerning with monsoon while in western of Banda sea isalmost constant according to ITFThis research carried out in Banda Sea within the rectangular region from 122.42 E to 131.47 E , Latitude 03.47 S to 07.65 S.in period of 1996 to 2006 consist of northwest monsoon, southeast monsoon, 1st transitional month in April and 2nd transitional monthin October. Spatial analysis used to analyze annual and seasonal distribution of SST and SLA from satellite dataset, also by comparisonbetween wind data, ITF pathway and numerical model. SST derived from NOAA / AVHRR satellite data by applying MCSST algorithm,SLA derived from Topex/ Poseidon and Jason-1 Satellite data by applying Inverse distance weighted interpolation, while numerical modelderived from barothropic model using Princeton ocean model.Sea level anomaly and sea surface temperature is decrease according to ENSO event, such as descrease of SLA and SST duringENSO event in 1997 , 2002 and 2004. Sea level anomaly and sea surface temperature is change according to Monsoon that reverse every6 (six) month. SST and SLA get maximum level during northwest monsoon in November to March and get Minimum during Southeastmonsoon in May to September. There are strong correlation coefficient between annual Sea level anomaly and annual Sea SurfaceTemperature with index value up to 0.817104. on the other side correlation coefficient between seasonal Sea level anomaly and SeasonalSea Surface Temperature is 0.576469. Based on Patern of current we found that Western part of Banda sea is strongly affected by ITFwhile eastern part of Banda sea is strongly affected by monsoon.

Abstract

Timuhun irigation channel is one of the irigation water sources which is located in the District of BanjarangkanKlungkung Regency of Bali Province which is flowing from its origin at Bubuh River which flows passses three villagesof Bangbang, Nyanglan, and Timuhun villages. The objective of this study was to determine the properties of pollutant of kacang koro as well as to determine theperception of the owner/industry workers and the community at the Timuhun village produced during the washingprocess. This study was conducted from December 2007 to Januari 2008. The sample of the irigation water of Timuhunwas taken from nine locations and the sample of the waste water was taken from three locations. The index of thepollution was calculated and compared to the Governor Regulation Number 8 of 2007 while the community perception onthe waste impact of the kacang koro washing was analyzed using percentage formulae. The finding of the study shows that the pollutant properties of of the waste water have exceeded the maximumlevel of quality standard covering parameters of TSS, COD, BOD5 and ammonia. The pollution of the Timuhun irigationby the waste water from the kacang koro washing is indicated by the high property of the water quality parameter onBOD5 and COD. Based on the pollution index (PI), it was found that the water quality of Timuhun irigation reached amild pollution in all criteria of water quality of class I, class II, class III, class IV except the origin location which is stillin good condition. The perception analysis on the waste water impact showed that the community of Timuhun have a badperception, so the owner and industry workers have a good perception.
