Abstract

Development of waste-to-energy plant is regarded as one of a solution to reduce fossil energy dependency and switch to another alternative energy sources, thus needs to be implemented immediately. Research on the potential of organic waste by taking case studies at UMY green campus program can be an illustration that in the future UMY can process this potential into an alternative renewable energy. This research was conducted by studying waste management and data collection methods, such as field observations, discussions with related parties about the waste cycle, and calculations with the concept of gasification. Calculation of biomass produced by organic waste is then supplied to the motor generator for electricity production. Annually, 31.8 tons of organic waste could produce 7.9 kiloliters of biomass and channel it to the power plant system for generating electricity energy as much as 5.3 MWh per year. This number equals to the electricity supply of five small-housing in Indonesian typical house.

Abstract

Cervical cancer has became the common women dsease in the world. Mostly, cervical cancer has been already known lately, because it is very dificult to detect this in early stage. In this work, a computer based software using Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) has been designed as the early cervical cancer detection aid tool. There are six methods before the detection is performed, namely preprocessing, contrast stretching, median filtering, morphology operation, image segmentation, and Wavelet Transform based feature extraction. In tihis work, 73 cervical cell images that consist of 50 normal images and 23 cancer images are used. 35 normal images and 14 cancer images are used to train the LVQ. Then, 23 normal images and 9 cancer images are used in the testing process. Our results show 88,89 % cancer image can be detected correctly (sensitivity), 100 % normal image can be detected corerctly (specificity), and 95,83 % for overall detection (accuracy).

Abstract

Image processing is a technical term useful for modifying images in various ways. In medicine, image processing has a vital role. One example of images in the medical world, namely retinal images, can be obtained from a fundus camera. The retina image is useful in the detection of diabetic retinopathy. In general, direct observation of diabetic retinopathy is conducted by a doctor on the retinal image. The weakness of this method is the slow handling of the disease. For this reason, a computer system is required to help doctors detect diabetes retinopathy quickly and accurately. This system involves a series of digital image processing techniques that can process retinal images into good quality images. In this research, a method to improve the quality of retinal images was designed by comparing the methods for adjusting histogram equalization, contrast stretching, and increasing brightness. The performance of the three methods was evaluated using Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Low MSE values and high PSNR and SNR values indicated that the image had good quality. The results of the study revealed that the image was the best to use, as evidenced by the lowest MSE values and the highest SNR and PSNR values compared to other techniques. It indicated that adaptive histogram equalization techniques could improve image quality while maintaining its information.

Abstract

Electric Railway (KRL) is a train that is based on eletrification system. The electrification system in the KRL supplies electrical energy to the train locomotive and several other carriage units, so the train can run. Electrical energy can be either AC or DC source. There are two electrical systems to support the performance of KRL, propulsion system and auxiliary system. The propulsion system is a driving system and than the auxiliary system is the system that handles the electrical load on KRL. In this research, discuss about the loss of propulsion system on KRL LAA Electric DC, AC Traction Motor. The propulsion system consists of several components, such as pantograph, circuit breaker, capacitor filter, IGBT VVVF inverters and AC traction motors. The component has different losses and different efficiencies. There are five test conditions for AC traction voltage inputs of 160.5V, 321V, 493.9V, 635V and 645V. By calculating using equations, from the five test conditions it can be seen that the propulsion system has the lowest power loss with the highest efficiency at the input voltage of AC 635V traction motors, which obtained the power loss of inverter VVVF IGBT 41.996kW with the efficiency 90.67% and the power loss of AC traction motor 18.219kW with the efficiency 91.45%.

Abstract

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tarjun, Tbk Plant 12, is the largest cement company in Kalimantan. The growing industrial world in the field of cement that is very rapidly will significantly affect the speed of the economy. Thus the increase in the field of electricity will be more felt. PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Plant 12, located in South Kalimantan, requires a reliable electrical system, both in terms of its power supply, in terms of backup of installed electrical systems, as well as safeguards that meet the electricity standards. In the short-circuit settlement is not desired, then the protection of the current relays more with proper coordination protection and reliable required. The coordination of the protection of the current relay is more necessary than the others in order to occur short circuit occurs in the field. No widespread damage occurred in its electricity and existing industrial equipment. To maintain the condition of the electric power system in optimum absence, a re-study of the coordination of current relational protection in PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, Tbk Plant 12. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM), a metabolic disorder caused by the lack of the insulin hormone, has become a health problem quite severe and is the most common endocrine disease. Recently, diagnosing diabetes could be carried out through monitoring the glucose level in human blood taken from the patient's finger or arm. On the other hand, a non-invasive blood sugar detector with a benedict test on human urine is an alternative to monitor blood sugar without injuring the body. The test output can be determined from the colour of the colour change of urine. However, manual evaluations on the urine colour are prone to human subjectivity. In this paper, we present a computational method to determine the blood sugar level based on the colour of the given urine automatically. The proposed method identifies the blood sugar level by taking into account the colour intensity on the red, green, and blue (RGB) channels of the urine colour. In the experimental parts, the proposed method is capable of classifying the urine sample correctly. Hence, our approach may be beneficial for practical applications.

Abstract

Data verification systems evolve towards a more natural system using biometric media. In daily interactions, human use voice as a tool to communicate with others. Voice charactheristic is also used as a tool to identify subjects who are speaking. The problem is that background noise and signal characteristics of each person which is unique, cause speaker classification process becomes more complex. To identify the speaker, we need to understand the speech signal feature extraction process. We developed the technology to extract voice characteristics of each speaker based on spectral analysis. This research is useful for the development of biometric-based security application. At first, the voice signal will be separated by a pause signal using voice activity detection. Then the voice characteristic will be extracted using a bark-frequency cepstral coefficient. Set of cepstral will be classified according to the speaker, using artificial neural network. The accuracy reached about 82% in voice recognition process with 10 speakers, meanwhile, the highest accuracy was 93% with only 1 speaker.

Abstract

Generator or alternator is a device that has a function to convert or transformmechanic energy to electricity. Electricity conversion need process with givingstrengthening with excitation current to coil magnetic field that placed on sync generator. Excitation current that flows on magnetic field coil will cause magnetic flux. Generator sync on PLTU unit 3 and 4 PJB UP Gresik use excitation system with excitation static type, this type of excitation it uses carbon brush as a media to conduct excitation current, this excitation system use the output of sync generator. In reality this excitation current which exist on PLTU unit 3 and 4 have to should always be taken care so the system can operate normally and commonly the fault that happened is under excitation and over excitation so it can be prevent. Step taken to avoid damaging the generator sync that caused by excitation current, steps that have to be taken are understanding thecharacteristic of system excitation setting, anchor current, voltage generator, and loading. The value of loading is very affecting the value of excitation current that injected to generator, the purpose of this process of excitation current injection is to maintain the stability from sync generator voltage so that the condition is staying on its normal condition.
