Abstract

The dimension and power of the arts reviewed from an artistic and aesthetic aspect of this article are assessed by its empowerment in the educational process as a teaching and creating medium in The Floating School (TFS) to the discourse toward the arts education problematic holistically. This primary subject constitutes a base of the study to analyze the idea of TFS founders and facilitators to the artistic and aesthetic aspect in its learning object and model, in the study of Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s Pendidikan Kesenian (arts education). The research on this article uses a qualitative-interpretative approach with a study case model to the TFS 2017 program. The viewpoint and understanding of founders and facilitators become a primary data collection through a review of the study document, an applied of a deep interview, and a base of participative observation. The validity of the data collection result is tested by the commensurability test of the data and data resources. By focusing the data on an account and transcript of the interview, data analysis uses an illustrative method through five stages: (1) appreciating the account and transcript of interview; (2) giving a note; (3) formulating a theme; (4) conceptualizing a topic; and (5) adjusting a problem topic, to narrating the result of interpretation with the critical discourse analysis. Thereby, this article shows that the TFS art workshops have a position and role in accompanying and fostering the students to express a story or their understanding of object material and create a message or their processing into the artwork. Those processes and progress finally develop the TFS student’s curiosity and confidence in cultivating their skills and knowledge. This study case is expected to be a power and contribution towards a discipline of arts education.

Abstract

Music learning at the Bosowa Natural School Makassar (SABM) uses the Beyond Center and Circle Time (BCCT) learning model as a strategy for achieving the expected learning objectives of music. Besides learning music in SABM is an intra-curricular subject that must be taught to students because SABM refers to one of multiple intelligences, namely musical intelligence. Therefore, this study aims to analyze music learning through the BCCT approach. The method used in this research is interpretative qualitative with an interdisciplinary approach. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies with interactive model analysis. The results showed (1) the environmental footing gave rise to learning activities in the making of learning media which were implemented by the demonstration method, (2) the footing before learning, singing could build the mood of students, and embed the value of knowledge through song lyrics, (3) the footing during learning, the lecture method, question and answer, and drill practice are very effective for students to better understand theory and practice, (4) footing after learning, train students to speak according to what has been passed from the beginning to the end of learning while practicing memory, patience, and respect.

Abstract

Saman dance is a traditional dance of the Gayo community which developed in Blangkejeren Gayo Lues danced by men. Saman dance was originally used as a means of propaganda media in the spread of Islam. In Saman dance there are many educational values ​​that are beneficial to the community. This study aims to examine the educational values ​​of Saman dance performance. The research was located in Blangkejeren Gayo lues, Aceh Province. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validation techniques used triangulation. Data analysis techniques used descriptive analysis. The results of this study are that the Saman Dance has educational values, namely the religious values ​​found in poetry, movements and clothing used by Saman dancers. The value of friendship lies in the enthusiasm of the audience and the dancers who are made as a unifier of the Gayo community, the value of tolerance can also be seen in the poems sung by the Penangkat. The togetherness value in the saman dance is clearly seen in the cohesiveness among dancers and in the variety of movements being danced, and the value of confidence is seen in the movements danced heroically by dancers.

Abstract

Autistic children are children who experience impaired brain function development which is characterized by difficulties in the ability of social interaction, communication with the environment, behavior and a delay in the academic field. Imaginative expressions in children with autism can be done through the media of painting. The media of painting can help as a therapy and to develop the painting skills of autistic children. This study aims to review and analyze (1) The form of autistic children's painting in the Autistic Advanced School (SLA) Fredofios. (2) Environmental elements visualized in paintings as a result of the imagination of children with autism. The method used in this research is qualitative. Data is collected through controlled observations, interviews, and document studies. The data validity technique uses triangulation and interactive data analysis techniques. The results of this study First, the form of autistic children's painting shows artistic painting in terms of subjects, color elements and shapes. Second, visualized environmental elements describe the school environment and family environment. Expressions of imagination of autistic children are always inspired by the environment every day.

Abstract

Gending Sriwijaya Dance is a traditional dance in the South Sumatra region that has potential forms and values ​​that need to be preserved and inherited, art education at the studio is an effort to inherit traditional dance as practiced by the Putri Rambut Selako Art Studio. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the inheritance of the Gending Sriwijaya Dance through traditional dance education at the Putri Rambut Selako Art Studio. This research method uses a qualitative approach, with case study design, data validity technique with triangulation and data analysis procedures carried out through the stages of reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that dance learning in the studio becomes an effort to inherit the Gending Sriwijaya Dance which includes two aspects of inheritance, namely the learning process as enculturation and staging as a socialization activity and supported by potential environmental aspects of students, aspects of the teacher (trainer) method and evaluation of learning to achieve goals education as a process of inheritance, then there are values ​​inherited from students through traditional arts education at the Putri Rambut Selako Art Studio which researchers classified into three, among others: 1) Knowledge Value; 2) Attitude Value; 3) Skill Value. The benefit and contribution of this research is that the existence of dance education at the Putri Rambut Selako Art Studio can be a reference for other traditional art inheritance efforts through art education.

Abstract

Wayang Gaga is a contemporary puppet made from grass. Wayang Gaga is staged with a simple story and triggers communication between the players and the audience. Wayang Gaga can be used as a medium for creativity education for children through the process of creating and appreciating. This study aims to examine Wayang Gaga as a medium for creativity education for elementary school children. Research location in Nongkosawit Public Elementary School 02, Jl. Randusari, RT.06/RW.02, Nongkosawit, Gunungpati District, Semarang City. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, and documentation. The data validation technique uses source triangulation. Data analysis techniques refer to Miles and Huberman with data reduction procedures, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that Wayang Gaga can be used as a medium for creativity education for elementary school children through the process of making puppets (creations) to short performances by students (appreciation). Weaving skills, the breadth of thinking and the flexibility of speaking in public when being a puppeteer is one of the characteristics of creativity that results from learning activities using the Wayang Gaga media. Specific creativity can be seen from the personalities of students involved in a series of creative processes namely Wayang Gaga workshops and performances, supported by internal and external driving factors, so as to produce a creative product in the form of Wayang Gaga and its performances. This research is expected to bring up new educational media based on local wisdom, so that in addition to developing creativity students can also recognize and love the arts in their own area.

Abstract

The Pagar Pengantin dance is one of the South Sumatra's traditional works of art, it was created based on the spirit of the Komering tribe and developed in Palembang. The Pagar Pengantin dance is one form of art that is widely used by the local community that presented during the the traditional wedding ceremony which has the symbolic meaning of the bride's separation from her family and requests permission to form a new family. The purpose of this study is to analyze the symbolic meaning and cultural ethical values ​​in the Pagar Pengantin dance moves. This is case study that used a qualitative method. The data were collected by observation, interview and document study. The results of the study provide knowledge and references about the symbolic meanings and values ​​of cultural ethics in the Pagar Pengantin dance moves. In particular, this findings are (1) the symbolic meaning of the Pagar Pengantin dance moves is the request of the bride's permission to start a new life as in the respect gesture associated with the symbolic meaning of respect. The flower motion symbolizes the bride, the united motion means the union of two families. (2) The value of local cultural ethics in the Pagar Pengantin dance movement shows forms of behavior that lead to goodness in social life such as the ethical values ​​of politeness and positive thinking, humility, caution, and the affection value.

Abstract

Palembang songket fabric visually has various aesthetic forms that are always changing, but always maintain the value of local wisdom. The purpose of this study was to analyze the visual motifs of the Palembang Songket fabric. The method used is a qualitative method with a phenomenological research design. Data collection techniques include observation, interview and document study. The validity of the data in this study uses triangulation, while the data analysis procedure is carried out by collecting data, reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions. This study was analyzed using De Witt H. Parker's aesthetic theory. The results showed that Palembang Songket visually contained two forms of visual classical motifs and modern visual motifs. Visual classical motifs have characteristics; (1) animal and tumpal motifs, (2) material used is silk thread and gold-plated thread, (3) the colors used are predominantly dark red and gold. While modern visual motifs have characteristics, (1) motifs are more on plants and geometric but do not leave tumapal motifs, (2) materials used are silk thread and copper-coated silk thread, (3) colors used are more diverse, like red, pink, blue, green, and purple. Specifically, the subject of this research was the visual motifs of Palembang's Songket fabric, which experienced continuous visual changes in motifs.

Abstract

Producing art is a human need. This research focuses on the art production in the form of batik made by Sidomulyo Joint Business Group in Pasangan. This research aims to analyse the ornamentation of batik, explain the function of batik, and the inheritance to the next generation organized by the business group. This research employs qualitative method with socio-cultural interdiscipline and art. The researchers collected the data through observation, interview, and documentation. The analysis of the data focuses on the aesthetics, function, and the concept of inheritance (internalization, enculturation, and socialization). First, the business group produces batik with variative and aesthetics value. Second, the batik provides human value for the source of living, socialization, and cultural preservation. Third, the inheritance works through family’s intergenerational transfer and informal education. Batik Tegal has varied motives. The producer may preserve it by motivating the younger generation to keep on producing the batik in Tegal. As a suggestion, this research can become a reference for future generation about batik in Tegal and how to do it.

Abstract

The Keroncong Pesona Gabuse Group is one group that uses the Keroncong genre in every performance. To maintain its existence, Pesona Gabuse always presents new and contemporary works in every performance. This research analyzes the process of creativity in realizing new works as an effort to preserve keroncong music in the country. Thus the purpose of this study is to analyze how the processes of artists in creativity, especially the personnel of the Pesona Gabuse group, using qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, interviews, and document studies. The data validity technique is by using data and source triangulation, while the data analysis procedure is by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The theory used to analyze the data that is the theory of Creativity according to Utami Munandar. It is defined into four types of dimensions as "four points creativity" namely (1) personal dimensions (person), (2) dimensions of the process (process), (3) dimensions of pressure (press), and product dimensions. The general result found is that there is a culture which is the result of a form of community gratitude because of the abundant of natural resources, or art that is only intended as mere entertainment. The art and culture tours in general are the Gong Theater, Widyas Budoyo dance studio, shadow puppet shows, puppet shows, barongsai pagoda, alms earth, and the Gabus market festival. One of them is music tour, there are 2 music tours in the village of Gabus namely Gagego music village and Pesona Gabuse. The Pesona Gabuse Keroncong Group is one of the existing keroncong groups in Pati Regency. Specific research results found relating to the creativity process are the result of the creative process of the Keroncong Pesona Gabuse music group. Keroncong Pesona Gabuse group makes the keroncong music sound different from the original keroncong music that has been legendary since the Indonesian colonial era, such as the original keroncong and extra keroncong which are almost all rhythmic 4/4 music. The new genre created by the Pesona Gabuse group is pop keroncong, congdut (dangdut keroncong), congrock (rock keroncong, congska (ska keroncong), reggae keroncong, and congjazz (jazz keroncong).
