Abstract

Expressing art is one of people's aesthetic needs, no exception the prisoners of class II A narcotics penal institution, Yogyakartawho fulfill their aesthetic need by doing painting activity. This is quite interesting because in the life full of freedom limitation, the citizens of the institution are still able to enliven the activity to express their aesthetic needs through painting in the prison environment. Therefore, the aim of this research is to analyse the influence of the penal institution environment toward the art expressions of the institution assisted citizens' paintings, their painting process, and the characteristics of their paintings seen in the perspectives of visual elements and principles, and in the perspective of psychoanalysis towards the painting themes. The research conducted applies qualitative and anthropology interdisciplinary approaches, aesthetics, and art psychology. The research design used is case studies. The data of the research are collected by conducting observation technique, interview, and documentation study. Then triangulation technique is used to check the validity of the data collected. Data analysis technique is conducted through reduction, presentation and verification. The results of the analysis show that, first, the environment of the penal institution has influence on the psychological stress of the prisoners which gives impact on their painting ideas, themes, and visuals; second, their creation process in various limitations do not stop their productivity in painting; and third, the visual characteristics of the prisoners’ paintings have their own uniqueness which can be seen through the perspectives of visual elements and principles related to the Id, Ego, and Superego drives in psychology which produce two categories of painting themes, i.e. political and personal themes. Both themes indicate the influences of environment, stressor, and the prisoners’ life background factors. Painting activity can be a fulfillment to the need of expressing aesthetics of every prisoner in Class IIA Narcotic Correctional Institution, Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance is one of dances that has experienced a changing of form from spontaneous to organized performance since 2016. The management and the change done by Barongan Risang Guntur Seto artists have altered the simple values of traditional performing art to be a glamorous values or it is called gebyarby Blora people. The purpose of this research is to analyze and to describe the change of form and value of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance.Theoretically, this research used qualitative method with interdisciplinary approach of science, they are ethnochoreology and Arts Sociology. The technique of data collection was done by observation, interview and document study. The data validity checking used source triangulation. The data analysis was done by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results show that the chane of form and value of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance performance involves movement, music, property, stage, and lighting. The suggestion for artists of Barongan Risang Guntur Seto dance is to always active in renewing the dance in accordance to the era and to always be consistent in emphasizing the simplicity and family values as an identity of Blora people.

Abstract

In art education, through psychological perspective, the intellectuality of a gifted child is a possible influence to the projected expression in their drawing. Children’s intelligence allows them to freely visualize their creativity on the canvas. In this context, this research aims to analyse “The Visual Intelligence of PSGCC Gifted Child Community at Yogyakarta”. The research employed qualitative methods and utilized case study design. The data of the research were from observation, interview, and documentation. Further, the researcher conducted triangulation of sources and data to validate the findings. The analysis of the data was through the sequence of data reduction, presentation, and verification. The findings of the research showed that the gifted children in the PSGCC community had the tendency of possessing visual intelligence with some details to discuss. First, the existence of the visual intelligence of the gifted children from PSGCC community shows that the children have the sensitivity to visual elements (lines, colours, shapes, and spaces); that is to say, the children are able to compose the element and visual principle in accordance with their behalf. Second, the visual intelligence of the children is visible from the way they identify an object to paint, starting from describing the position of the object, identify the part of the object, and recognize the characteristic of the object. Third, the visual intelligence from the children portrays that the children’s ability to comprehend and portray a dimension of an object as well as its surrounding. The researchers expect that this research gives an implication to become a reference for parents, teachers, and children community’s liaisons to observe and acknowledge the intelligence of children through their paintings.

Abstract

Wayang Wong Bocah in Tjipta Boedaja Residence is one of the performing arts filled with value and relevant to be inculcated for children. Wayang Wong Bocah is performed by children. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe the inculcation of value through Wayang Wong Bocah performance with Srikandi Mustakaweni act. Qualitative method with ethno-choreology and arts education approaches were used in this research. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentary study. The data were validated using investigators triangulation technique, and analyzed by discribing, discreening, interpreting, and evaluating. The result shows that inculcation of value for children can be done through plot and model performed by children. Plot helps them to learn about good or bad, while model helps them distinguish an exemplary behavior as shown by Srikandi who was responsible, and not exemplary behavior as shown by Mustakaweni who was dishonest. The values that appear in the story such as honesty, responsibility, curiosity, patriotism, peacefulness, and hard-work. It is concluded that those values can be the guidelines about good or bad for children. Those values are expected to be implemented in daily basis.

Abstract

Jemblung is a traditional arts developed in Banyumas regency. Modernization has made the society have less interest in preserving the tradition. Hence, this research aims to analyze the revitalization of Jemblung by Blakasuta studio in Banyumas regency. The researcher employed qualitative interpretative method along with interdisciplinary approach for this research. The discipline of this research mainly concerns on ethnomusicology. The collection for the research data consist of observation, interview, and documentation. The validation of the data was through source triangulation. The analysis for the finding started from data collection, reduction, clarification, conclusion, and selective interpretation. The findings showed that the revitalization of Jemblung covers the ideas, materials, creators, facilities, consideration, reconstruction, refunctionalization, reformation, representation, reinterpretation, and reorientation. This research implies that the revitalization of Jemblung is a form of appreciation of traditional arts by Blakasuta studio. The studio continuously holds traditional arts preservation to minimize the effect of modernization. It is a challenge for the studio and the appreciators to consistently promote and perform traditional arts in a more creative way amongst Banyumas community.

Abstract

Bedhaya Tunggal Jiwa dance presents in the Islamic dimension and gives a new nuance to a ceremony in Demak regency. This dance has different package from Bedaya dance in Kraton because it is adjusted to area and Demak society. The purpose of this research is to analyse how the the creativity of the creation of Bedhaya Tunggal Jiwa dance in Demak Regency. The method used was qualitative with ethnochoreology, Anthropology of Arts, and Sociology of Arts. The research data was collected by the technique of observation, interview, and document study. The technique of data validity used source triangulation. The data analysis technique that was used data reduction, data presentation and conclusion was done by describing the dance, understanding the the performance components, and doing interpretation. The results of the research were that the creator made a work through some steps, they are exploration, improvisation, evaluation, composition, and supported by creative factors, such as environment, facilities, skills, identity, originality, and appreciation.

Abstract

Kompang is a traditional music and the inheritance for Malay people. In the era of globalization, the necessity of artistic entertainment dynamically changes. Hence, the transfer of the arts through generation is an obligation to preserve the tradition. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the process of inheritance of Kompang to the recent generation of Malay society in Riau through formal and informal methods. Formal education is in relevance to schooling and skill training. Informal education has a correlation with enculturation and socialization. The factors of the inheritance of Kompang in the industrial area are the diversity of the demography and the influences of globalization. In regards to the process, the researcher employed interdisciplinary approaches under the fields of sociology to analyze the artistic activities of the society in general. The research works under the a case study design using observation, interview, and document study as the methods of gathering data. In order to analyze the data, the researcher used interactive data analysis through data reduction, presentation, and verification. The implication of this research is the expectation of growing the sensibility of Malay community in Riau to preserve the existence of Kompang as a traditional music.

Abstract

Traditional Thong thong klek art is one of the traditional arts in Rembang regency. One team of Thong Thong Klek art is Gema Irama, which has an organizational structure that functions to regulate the organizational process of the team. Thong thong klek showis able torun well when all parts do their part well. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the structure of the organization and its function. Theoretically, this study uses a qualitative method with a monodisciplinary approach, namely sociology of art using structural functionalism theory. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, interviews, and document studies. Checking the data validity were carried out by using source triangulation, followed by analyzing the data by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that each part in the system of the arts organization can perform its functions properly and be mutually functional from one another. The Chairman has carried out his function well, but it turns out that there are also latent functions that are detrimental to the Gema Irama Thong Thong Klek Art. Other divisions encounter dysfunctions that hinder the development of the Gema Irama Thong Thong Klek art. Suggestions for Thong Thong Klek Gema Irama team is to be active in creating inovations according to the era development and always be consistent in prioritizing the values ​​of simplicity and kinship as the identity of the people of Rembang Regency.

Abstract

Tongkling is a traditional music from Glodogan village, Bawen District, Semarang Regency. Tongkling is always invited to take part in Merti Dusun and Kirab Budaya events in Semarang regency. The purpose of this research is to analyze the form of performance and social action in Tongkling art. The method used in this research was qualitative with sociological approach. The technique of data collection were observation, interview, and document study. The technique of data validity used triangulation technique and data analysis technique that follow interactive model analysis stages. The research results show that the form of Tongkling art presentation are divided into traditional and electric types. The traditional types is presented during carnival while electric types is presented on the stage. The social action of the society is also developing, the beginning was for patrolling, and nowadays, this art is for enliven Kirab Budaya and Merti Dusun evenst in Semarang Regency. The research implication of Tongkling Ortega for the society in Glodogan village is for social interaction and for preserving the existence of Tongkling in traditional events. Tongkling Ortega art increases the art treasury in Semarang Regency.

Abstract

Various attempts were made by an artist to maintain its existence, Lasmi waranggana tayub is an artist who did the adaptation strategy to maintain its existence in Grobogan. This study aimed to analyze the adaptation strategies that do Lasmi to maintain its existence as a waranggana tayub dikabupaten Grobogan. This research method is qualitative. The data collection techniques is using observation, interviews, document study. Mechanical validity of the data is using triangulation of data and resources, while the data analysis procedures with data reduction, data presentation, and draw conclusions. The results of the study, Lasmi started his career at age 11 years and able to maintain its existence until now at the age of 60 years. Existence Lasmi shown with active Lasmi in any activity tayub Arts in Grobogan. The efforts are being made by Lasmi that still exist to do the process of learning and cultural modification. The learning process is carried out Lasmi based on their awareness to improve themselves, to always keep abreast of the times. The learning process is carried out Lasmi classified into two types, namely singing or vocal learning, and the learning process of recording. While modifications were made Lasmi culture is, by displaying a new presentation form Tayub Art performances, namely in the form of tapes. Lasmi is a waranggana tayub first recording, so that through Lasmi Music tayub in Grobogan developed rapidly and became more famous Lasmi name everywhere. The implications of this research for art education, especially formal art education as a source of locally-based arts learning. Suggestions for artists tayub, particularly in Grobogan in order to keep up with changing times, to continue to improve themselves through adaptability, as well as constantly improving the quality of the vocals.
