Abstract

Many factors can influence the risk of Islamic banking, including internal banking and external banking (macroeconomic) factors. To minimize risk, Islamic banking needs to pay attention to fluctuating macroeconomic conditions. The independent variables used in this study are world oil prices and the rupiah exchange rate. The dependent variable used in this study is credit risk as measured by NPF and liquidity risk as measured by FDR in Islamic banking. The data used in this study are secondary data which as a whole are taken from official sources in monthly form starting from January 2007 to December 2018. Data on world oil prices are obtained from OPEC Basket Price, exchange rate data obtained from Pacific Exchange Rate Service, data from NPF and FDR obtained from BI Sharia Banking Statistics (SPS-BI). The results of the study found that world oil prices had a significant effect on credit risk and liquidity risk in Islamic banking, while the exchange rate only had a significant effect on credit risk in Islamic banking.

Abstract

Introduction: The analysis of Islamic banking performance is a frequent subject of discussion in various literature. One factor that makes Islamic banks an exciting object of research is their role as Sharia-based intermediary institutions and their contribution to the effectiveness of monetary policy. This study aims to analyze the impact of CAR, NPF, FDR, and BOPO on the performance of Islamic banks measured by ROA and NOM. Research Methods: This quantitative research uses secondary data from Islamic Banking Statistics covering the period from January 2015 to December 2023. The data analysis technique employed is the Error Correction Model (ECM). Results: The results indicate that out of the four variables examined, only BOPO has a significant impact on the performance of Islamic banks. Conclusion: This finding suggests that efficiency in managing operational costs is a crucial factor in enhancing the financial performance of Islamic banks. The lower the BOPO, indicating higher cost efficiency, the better the performance of Islamic banks in terms of profitability as measured by ROA and NOM.

Abstract

The business world cannot be separated from the amount of profit earned. Profit is used as an important reference in assessing a company, predicting business bankruptcy, and overcoming financial difficulties. Furthermore, profit is often used as the main indicator in assessing the success of a business entity. Based on this, the purpose of this research is to find out the orientation that Sharia financial practitioners want to look for and the meaning of profit among Sharia financial practitioners. The research design used in this study is a qualitative research design with an exploratory approach. The sample to be used in this study amounted to 3 respondents from Sharia financial practitioners in Yogyakarta. The data collection technique used is interview. The data analysis technique used is an interactive analysis model that refers to three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. Based on the results of research and discussion, it can be concluded that the orientation that Sharia financial practitioners want to seek is da'wah to introduce to the public financial transactions without usury, to obtain profits, to benefit the people and to prosper members and the community. Sharia financial practitioners understand profit as a result obtained from business activities that are not contrary to Islamic law and mutually beneficial between one party and another and no one is harmed.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of profit-sharing financing and profit-margin financing on financial stability of Islamic Rural Banks (IRBs) in Java Island and incorporates credit risk as an intervening variable. Utilizing a panel dataset of 90 registered IRBs operating in Java Island from 2011 to 2021 and applying path analysis, we find that profit margin financing has a significant negative impact on the financial stability of IRBs, both directly and indirectly through its association with credit risk. In contrast, profit sharing financing shows a positive and significant direct effect on financial stability. This result implies that profit margin financing may pose a greater risk to the financial stability of IRBs than profit-sharing financing. The study highlights the need for IRBs to carefully manage their financing strategies, taking into consideration the potential risks associated with profit margin financing. Effective risk management practices are crucial for mitigating credit risk and ensuring the overall stability of IRBs. The research emphasizes the importance of a selective approach in providing profit-sharing financing to mitigate potential risks. It also underscores the significance of striking a balance between profitability and credit risk management to ensure the long-term stability of IRBs.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the management of zakat (Islamic almsgiving) at BAZNAS (National Amil Zakat Agency) in Magelang District, focusing on the processes of zakat collection and distribution from muzakki (zakat payer) to mustaḥik (zakat recipient). Employing a qualitative method, this study utilizes both primary and secondary data. The findings reveal adherence to prevailing legal regulations in zakat management at BAZNAS in Magelang District. Planning involves budgeting in the Annual Zakat Collection and Distribution Plan (RKAT) and conducting awareness campaigns to enhance zakat payment consciousness. Organizational structure aligns with the Magelang District Chief's decree, while implementation comprises zakat collection and distribution phases. The majority of zakat funds are sourced from civil servants (ASN) in Magelang District and distributed among 8 beneficiary groups. Supporting factors in zakat management include official directives from the Magelang District Chief, contributions from village officials, and the success of developmental initiatives in zakat collection. However, there are inhibiting factors such as the rise in retired civil servants (ASN) and the transfer of supervision of state high schools from the district government to the provincial government.
