Abstract

Abstract

Academic anxiety is an important issue among first-year students, particularly those living away from home, as they must adapt to academic demands while also managing independent living. This study aimed to describe the level of academic anxiety among first-year students living away from home during the transition to higher education. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 2,695 first-year students selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Academic Anxiety instrument, which consisted of 18 items measured on a 5-point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, median, quartiles, and score categorization. The results showed that the majority of students were in the moderate category of academic anxiety, with 2,083 students or 77.29%, followed by 350 students or 12.99% in the high category, and 262 students or 9.72% in the low category. In conclusion, academic anxiety among first-year students living away from home was at a moderate level and requires preventive attention. Future studies are recommended to examine psychological, social, and academic factors that influence academic anxiety in greater depth.

Abstract

This study evaluated the psychometric characteristics of the Mental Health INdex for Academic Distress and Psychological RISK (MIND-RISK), a multidomain instrument designed to assess both psychological risk and protective factors among university students. Data from 100 students were analyzed using the Rasch Partial Credit Model across six constructs: Academic Stress Load, Intolerance of Uncertainty, Academic Adaptability, Emotion Regulation, Psychological Resilience, and Psychological Flourishing. The results showed acceptable item fit for all 48 items, reliable measurement for both the Risk Factor and Protective Factor Indices, and properly functioning five-point response categories. Although lower reliability was found for Intolerance of Uncertainty and some residual dependence was identified, the full 48-item structure was retained. Overall, MIND-RISK demonstrates promising psychometric properties and may be useful for preliminary psychological assessment and profile mapping in university guidance and counseling services. Further validation with larger and more diverse samples and additional psychological measures is recommended before wider standardized use.

Abstract

Digital well-being has emerged as a significant area of research amid the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital mental health technologies. To capture the intellectual development of this field, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using publications indexed in the Scopus database between 2020 and 2025. Following the identification, screening, and selection processes based on predefined criteria, a total of 422 articles were included in the analysis. Bibliometric mapping was performed using VOSviewer through publication trend analysis, citation analysis, co-authorship analysis, and keyword co-occurrence analysis to identify publication trends, author productivity, country contributions, subject areas, and emerging research themes. The results reveal a substantial increase in digital well-being publications during the study period, reflecting its emergence as a multidisciplinary research field. The most prominent themes include digital well-being, social media, mental health, psychological well-being, and digital literacy. Network visualization indicates strong interconnections among digital well-being, mental health, social media use, and digital behavior. Furthermore, topics such as smartphone addiction, screen time, internet addiction, emotional regulation, and artificial intelligence have emerged as rapidly growing research themes in recent years. The United States and the United Kingdom were identified as the leading contributors to the literature, while Social Sciences, Medicine, Computer Science, and Psychology constituted the dominant disciplinary areas. These findings highlight that digital well-being has evolved into a multidisciplinary framework integrating psychological, social, health, and technological dimensions, while providing valuable directions for future research and the development of digital mental health practices.
