Abstract

Weeds are managed by herbicides, but this can reduce the abundance of soil bacteria. This research aimed to determine the effect of active compounds of herbicides on weeds, the abundance of soil bacteria, growth and yield of sweet corn. The experiment was conducted from June to October 2023 in the fields and Laboratory of Agronomy and Horticulture, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto. A randomized block design was used, consisting of eight treatments and four replications. The treatments included control (H0); weeding (H1); paraquat (H2); glyphosate (H3); paraquat, atrazine, mesotrione (H4); glyphosate, atrazine, mesotrione (H5); paraquat, atrazine, mesotrione, nicosulfuron (H6); and glyphosate, atrazine, mesotrione, nicosulfuron (H7). Results showed that glyphosate and paraquat, were applied before planting, could suppress weeds on sweet corn until 15 days after planting (DAP). Application of atrazine, mesotrione, and nicosulfuron at 21 DAP can increase the success of weed control observed up to 35 DAP of sweet corn. The application of glyphosate, atrazine, and mesotrione showed the highest values for growth variables (plant height, number, and leaf greenness index) and yield variables (fresh weight, diameter, and length of sweet corn cob). Herbicide decrease abundance of soil bacteria on sweet corn field, from 10.07x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.55x10-8 CFU/mL (total bacteria), 9.53x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.52x10-8 CFU/mL (phosphate solubilizing bacteria), 9.90x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.40x10-8 CFU/mL (Rhizobium) and 9.91x10-8 CFU/mL became 9.78x10-8 CFU/mL (nitrogen fixing bacteria). The total density of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria and nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the application of glyphosate, atrazine, and mesotrione (7.78 CFU/g and 9.52 CFU/g) was greater than control (8.77 CFU/g and 8.15 CFU/g).

Abstract

The agricultural sector as a source of income for some communities, because most of Indonesia's area is agricultural land. Productive agricultural land is becoming narrower, and the population is increasing, so there is a need for a medium of cultivation that can replace the use of land as a medium for cultivation. One way to use narrow land as an effort to develop agricultural produce, is by hydroponically matching crops. The purpose of this community service is to provide knowledge and to apply hydroponically hydroponic vegetable crops cultivation techniques to the peasant groups in Tambaksogra Village Sumbang Banyumas. The method of implementation of this activity is to provide training, dissemination and support to the peasant group in Tambaksogra Sumbang Banyumas village. The result of the activities that have been carried out is to provide training and support on hydroponic design of shovel rack systems in the use of parkland land, the production of hydro-ponic media, the seeding of hydroponic vegetables, the planting of aquatic spinach, spinach, paccoy and lettuce hydroponically. The activities continued with maintenance up to the harvesting and packaging of hydroponic vegetable crops to become a product with a higher economic value. This activity increases the knowledge of the PKK group about the hydroponic cultivation of vegetable crops in the fountain rackets in the village of Tambaksogra Sumbang Banyumas.

Abstract

Diversity of ecosystem components in rice agroecosystem is one of the keys to rice growing success. There was still a lack of information regarding the functional diversity of nematodes in the rice agroecosystems, hence the purpose of this study was to investigate the functional diversity of nematodes in rice ecosystems. This study was conducted by collecting samples from rice planting centers in Banyumas: Wangon, Jatilawang, Ajibarang, Rawalo, and Baturraden. Soil samples were collected randomly around rice plants at two places in each subdistrict. A total of 100 g of soil was extracted and isolated using the White-head tray technique. The observed variables were the morphological characteristics and functions of the nematode genus. The Shannon-Weiner diversity index was used to calculate the diversity (H'), evenness (E), and dominance (D) indices. The findings revealed five distinct nematode functions: omnivore-predator (Eudorylaimus), omnivore (Dorylaimus), microbial feeder and predator (Diplogaster), bacterivore (Cephalobus and Rhabditis), and herbivore (Hirschmanniella, Meloidogyne, Helicotylenchus). The most abundant genus was Eudorylaimus (32%), followed by Hirschmanniella (23%), Dorylaimus (17%), Meloidogyne 12%, Helicotylenchus (8%), Diplogaster (4%), and Rhabditis and Cephalobus (2% each). The H' index ranged from low to moderate, the E index varied from moderate to high, and D indicated that some sites were dominant. In conclusion, the diversity of nematode functions on rice agroecosystems in Banyumas was extensive, although R1 site in Rawalo district should be concerned due to Meloidogyne domination.  Keywords: biodiversity, nematodes, paddy, soil
