Abstract

The community service program at SMP PGRI 2 Somagede, Banyumas Regency involves the integration of agricultural education into the Merdeka curriculum as part of the efforts to support the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) and the development of school gardening potential. This activity takes a holistic approach by integrating practical agricultural education into the curriculum so that students are directly involved in soil preparation activities, preparation of planting materials, planting, harvesting and management of agricultural products. In addition, this project promotes the strengthening of Pancasila values such as mutual cooperation and social justice. In addition to being equipped with agricultural skills, students are encouraged to understand their role in building character in accordance with national values. This community service activity aims to enhance students’ practical skills in agriculture and enrich their understanding of moral and social values. The methods used in this activity include counseling, training and direct support to students and teachers of SMP PGRI 2 Somagede on cultivation techniques and the application of integrated farming. The results of this activity show that the application of drip irrigation technology and the processing of agricultural waste supports P5 and the development of the potential of school gardens. This activity not only improves the knowledge and skills of students, but also supports the optimization of school gardens in implementing integrated farming. It is expected that the success of this program will serve as a model for schools and villages in implementing the establishment of Agroeduwisata in Kemawi village, Somagede district, Banyumas local government area.

Abstract

Abstract

Fertilizer application is a strategy that can be used to increase sweet corn production and maintain environmental balance. This research aims (i) to determine the optimal dose of nitrogen and potassium fertilizers for sweet corn production; (ii) to study the agronomic and physiological responses of sweet corn plants at different nitrogen and potassium dose; and (iii) to determine the nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) nutrient uptake and efficiency by sweet corn at different fertilizer doses and their interactions on yield and yield quality. The research was conducted from March to November 2022 in the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. The experimental design used was a randomized block design. The treatments tried were N doses (0 kg ha-1 (N0), 100 kg ha-1 (N1), 200 kg ha-1 (N2)) and K doses (0 kg ha-1 (K0), 75 kg ha-1 (K1), 150 kg ha-1 (K3)). Each treatment was repeated three times. The observational data were analyzed using analysis of variance to determine the effect of treatment. If the results differed significantly, Duncan’s multiple range test (α=5%) was performed. Variables observed included growth traits, yield and yield components, physiological, biochemical, nutrient uptake and efficiency, and sweetness level. The experimental results showed that nitrogen dosage had a significant influence on growth traits, yield, and yield components, physiological, biochemical, nutrient uptake and efficiency, and sweetness level. The K dosage had a significant influence on N and K nutrient uptake. The interaction between a N dose of 100 kg ha-1 and a K dose of 150 kg ha-1 shows the best values for plant growth rate and potassium uptake.

Abstract

Weeds are managed by herbicides, but this can reduce the abundance of soil bacteria. This research aimed to determine the effect of active compounds of herbicides on weeds, the abundance of soil bacteria, growth and yield of sweet corn. The experiment was conducted from June to October 2023 in the fields and Laboratory of Agronomy and Horticulture, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Purwokerto. A randomized block design was used, consisting of eight treatments and four replications. The treatments included control (H0); weeding (H1); paraquat (H2); glyphosate (H3); paraquat, atrazine, mesotrione (H4); glyphosate, atrazine, mesotrione (H5); paraquat, atrazine, mesotrione, nicosulfuron (H6); and glyphosate, atrazine, mesotrione, nicosulfuron (H7). Results showed that glyphosate and paraquat, were applied before planting, could suppress weeds on sweet corn until 15 days after planting (DAP). Application of atrazine, mesotrione, and nicosulfuron at 21 DAP can increase the success of weed control observed up to 35 DAP of sweet corn. The application of glyphosate, atrazine, and mesotrione showed the highest values for growth variables (plant height, number, and leaf greenness index) and yield variables (fresh weight, diameter, and length of sweet corn cob). Herbicide decrease abundance of soil bacteria on sweet corn field, from 10.07x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.55x10-8 CFU/mL (total bacteria), 9.53x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.52x10-8 CFU/mL (phosphate solubilizing bacteria), 9.90x10-8 CFU/mL to 9.40x10-8 CFU/mL (Rhizobium) and 9.91x10-8 CFU/mL became 9.78x10-8 CFU/mL (nitrogen fixing bacteria). The total density of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria and nitrogen-fixing bacteria in the application of glyphosate, atrazine, and mesotrione (7.78 CFU/g and 9.52 CFU/g) was greater than control (8.77 CFU/g and 8.15 CFU/g).

Abstract

The decreasing interest of the younger generation in agricultural activities poses a serious challenge for future sustainability. Integrating environmental education into early childhood learning is therefore essential. This community service activity aimed to introduce eco-friendly farming practices to preschoolers at TK ABA XVI, North Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency through a simple hydroponic system using recycled waste materials. The program involved interactive lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and hands-on hydroponic planting. Results showed an increase in students' knowledge about hydroponics and a growing awareness of the importance of recycling plastic waste to protect the environment. This initiative highlights the effectiveness of early intervention in cultivating environmental consciousness among young learners.
