Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how the increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) rates operates after the Harmonization of Tax Regulations Law (HPP Law) is enacted, specifically regarding the microeconomic ecosystem, particularly in the MMTC Medan Market. Although VAT plays an important role in strengthening state finances, there are concerns about its regressive nature and its impact on the purchasing power of low-income citizens and the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises . This research uses a qualitative approach with case study methods and semi-structured in-depth interviews with consumers (students and local residents) and MSME actors (grocery store owners) at MMTC Medan Market. This research focuses on how economic actors at the grassroots level respond to policy changes. The research results indicate that the increase in VAT rates serves as a trigger and intensifier of the decline in public purchasing power. Consumers are responding with defensive strategies such as limiting the frequency and amount of shopping, switching to cheaper goods, and as evidenced by the decline in merchant turnover. On the other hand, MSME actors are taking survival steps by absorbing the impact, which means holding back some of the price increases by reducing profit margins, dividing products into smaller sizes, and strengthening relationships with customers. However, this strategy poses a risk to long-term business sustainability. Additionally, there are deep differences in understanding, where the policy is considered unfair because the "one-size-fits-all" formulation is seen as ignoring the financial capabilities of MSMEs and the real conditions of vulnerable communities

Abstract

ABSTRACT Motivation to learn is key to student success in higher education. The urgency of this research is to explore motivation driven by both internal and external factors within students. The aims study is intended to examine how self-efficacy and the feedback provided by lecturers influence the learning motivation among prospective economics teachers. Using a survey-based quantitative design, the study gathered data from 40 participants enrolled in the Economic Education program at Universitas Negeri Medan. The analytical procedure employed multiple linear regression, supplemented by classical assumption verification and hypothesis evaluation through both t-tests and F-tests. Empirical findings confirm that self-efficacy contributes positively and significantly to learning motivation, with a significance value of 0.005, which falls below the 0.05 threshold. Conversely, the lecturer feedback variable has not been proven to exert a significant partial influence, despite its positive directional coefficient with a significance value of 0.496, exceeding the 0.05 threshold. Collectively, both variables account for a significant influence of 29.9% on learning motivation. These results emphasize that internal determinants, particularly self-belief, play a more substantial role compared to external support. Consequently, improving the quality of learning should prioritize strengthening students' self-capacity, complemented by more targeted instructional feedback. This research contributes to scholars' understanding of the antecedents of lecturer feedback, which suboptimally contributes to student learning motivation. A more comprehensive research effort is needed that explores strategies, methods, or policies that optimize feedback in the classroom learning process. Keywords: feedback; learning motivation; prospective teacher; self-efficacy.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the impact of Population Size and the Human Development Index (HDI) on the Open Unemployment Rate in North Sumatra Province from 2018 to 2025. Employing a quantitative methodology, this study utilizes secondary data sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The analytical framework is constructed using Multiple Linear Regression, processed via SPSS software, and validated through classical assumption tests, t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R2).The findings reveal that, partially, Population Size exerts a negative but statistically insignificant influence on the Open Unemployment Rate, suggesting that demographic growth does not necessarily trigger unemployment if labor absorption remains stable. In contrast, the Human Development Index (HDI) demonstrates a significant positive correlation with unemployment levels, indicating that higher human capital quality may temporarily increase the unemployment rate due to more selective job-seeking behaviors among educated individuals. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence the Open Unemployment Rate, with a high coefficient of determination confirming their collective ability to explain the majority of fluctuations in the regional labor market. These results underscore that enhancing human resource quality profoundly shapes labor market dynamics, particularly in the short run. Consequently, integrated policies that synchronize human development with industrial expansion are essential for a sustainable reduction in unemployment.
