Abstract

The boycott movement against products supporting Israel is growing among students at the Faculty of Economics, State University of Medan (FE UNM). One of the boycotted products is Starbucks. This study investigates how Starbucks' brand image influences FE UNM students' decision to purchase Starbucks products. This study is based on the fact that Starbucks has experienced a decline in customer interest due to social and moral issues related to global conflicts, which have changed how customers view the company's brand. This study uses a quantitative approach, distributing questionnaires to 100 active students who have purchased Starbucks products and are aware of the boycott movement. The results show that brand image has a significant influence on purchasing decisions, indicating that purchasing decisions decrease when brand image is weak. As indicated by the R Square value of 0.696, brand image explains 69.6 percent of the variation in purchasing decisions; other factors not included in this study explain 30.4 percent. Brand image positively influences purchasing decisions. The social and moral pressures generated by the boycott movement indicate a negative impact. The results indicate that brand image cannot always maintain customer loyalty when faced with social issues that cause public resistance. Therefore, to maintain customer trust amidst global reputational challenges, Starbucks must strengthen its communication and social responsibility strategies.

Abstract

Digital transformation has reshaped entrepreneurial practices, requiring students to master digital competencies in order to identify opportunities and build innovative ventures. This study aims to examine the influence of digital literacy on students’ entrepreneurial interest within the Management Study Program at Universitas Negeri Medan. Using a quantitative survey approach, data were collected from 100 students selected through simple random sampling. The questionnaire employed validated indicators of digital literacy and entrepreneurial interest, and the data were analyzed through normality testing, linearity testing, and simple linear regression using SPSS 26. The findings indicate that digital literacy has a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial interest, as shown by a regression coefficient of 0.405 and a significance value of 0.000. The standardized beta coefficient of 0.444 demonstrates a moderately strong contribution of digital literacy in shaping entrepreneurial interest, suggesting that students with stronger digital capabilities tend to be more confident and motivated to pursue entrepreneurial activities. These results highlight the importance of strengthening digital competencies in higher education to prepare students for opportunities in the digital economy.
