Abstract

The Indonesia Emas (Golden Indonesia) 2045 vision, which targets Indonesia's transformation into a developed nation, tends in practice to prioritize material development (economy, technology) at the risk of neglecting the nation's character-building. This article argues that the arts of the archipelago must be positioned as a strategic driver to address this gap. Using a literature study method and the conceptual frameworks of Soft Power and Creative Economy, this paper proposes a Cultural Roadmap based on three fundamental pillars. The first pillar is the Revitalization of Arts-Based Education to shape superior human resources with strong character and creativity. The second is the Downstreaming of the Creative Economy to build an authentic and competitive culture-based economic independence. The third is Global Cultural Diplomacy to project the nation's positive influence and image on the international stage. The analysis concludes that these three pillars must be implemented not as separate programs, but as an integrated policy ecosystem where creative human resources fuel economic innovation, and these creative products become the ammunition for effective diplomacy. Integrating this ecosystem into the heart of national planning is a necessity to realize a Golden Indonesia 2045 that is not only materially wealthy but also civilized and noble.

Abstract

This study examines the social construction of critical literacy among elementary school students within the framework of contextual learning. Drawing on sociocultural theory and critical pedagogy, this research explores how literacy is not merely an individual cognitive skill but a socially mediated practice shaped by interaction, discourse, and cultural context. A qualitative approach was employed using a sociological perspective to analyze classroom practices, teacher strategies, and student engagement. The findings indicate that critical literacy emerges through dialogic interaction, contextual problem-solving, and the integration of students’ lived experiences into learning processes. The study also reveals that contextual learning environments facilitate the development of interpretative, analytical, and reflective competencies among students. Furthermore, the role of teachers as mediators of meaning significantly influences the formation of critical awareness. These findings reinforce the argument that critical literacy is constructed through dynamic social processes rather than transmitted as fixed knowledge. The study contributes to the theoretical integration of critical literacy and contextual pedagogy in primary education.

Abstract

The existence of Kentrung Bate, a traditional oral storytelling art from Bate Village, Tuban Regency, is increasingly threatened by declining interest among Generation Z, the influence of globalization, and the limited regeneration of performers. This study aims to examine the revitalization of Kentrung Bate through collaboration with gamelan as a strategy for cultural inheritance among Generation Z. The research employed a qualitative method with an interpretive ethnographic approach to understand the cultural meanings, symbols, and social practices embedded in Kentrung Bate. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and interpretive analysis. The findings reveal that the decline of Kentrung Bate is influenced by modernization and local myths that discourage young people from learning the tradition. The collaboration between Kentrung Bate and gamelan was developed by integrating selected gamelan instruments and traditional gendings without altering the essential characteristics of Kentrung Bate. This collaborative model successfully increased Generation Z’s interest and participation in learning, performing, and preserving the art form. Furthermore, the collaboration created a more engaging learning environment, reduced negative perceptions associated with local myths, and strengthened cultural transmission. The study concludes that gamelan collaboration serves as an effective revitalization strategy to support the sustainability and regeneration of Kentrung Bate as a local cultural heritage.

Abstract

This book review examines the fourth edition of Sarah Pink’s canonical work, Doing Visual Ethnography, which pioneers a methodological paradigm shift towards collaborative visual ethnography. The book deconstructs the positivistic assumption that positions the camera merely as an objective recording instrument, offering instead a framework of reflexivity wherein participants are elevated as co-producers of knowledge within the complexities of the contemporary digital ecology. This review critically evaluates Pink’s methodological contributions by highlighting ethical negotiations and the risks of extractive objectification in fieldwork. Furthermore, the review contextualizes the relevance of Pink’s approach specifically for the discipline of Cultural Studies, positioning it as an essential epistemological instrument to unpack power relations, bodily performativity, and spatial dynamics that are frequently lost under the hegemony of textual transcripts. In conclusion, this review recommends Pink’s book as an emancipatory treatise that invites researchers to dismantle textual bias in favor of a reflexive, ethical, and multimodal research praxis.
