Abstract

Data analysis skills are an essential part of thesis writing, especially for students who use quantitative research approaches. However, many students still face difficulties in preparing data, selecting appropriate analytical techniques, reading statistical outputs, and presenting the results in academic writing. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ ability to analyze thesis data through EViews training. The activity was attended by 50 sixth-semester students of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Makassar, and was conducted in one of the classrooms at the Faculty of Engineering on Saturday, April 11, 2026. The training methods included short lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, discussions, and assistance in interpreting EViews outputs. The training materials covered an introduction to EViews, data input, regression analysis, output reading, and the preparation of interpretations of the analysis results. The activity showed that students gained a better understanding of the stages of data analysis and practical experience in using EViews to support thesis writing. This training can serve as an academic assistance model to strengthen students’ readiness in conducting data analysis for their theses

Abstract

The elderly population is at high risk of developing hypertension, a condition that significantly impairs their quality of life if not properly managed. This community engagement project aimed to enhance the knowledge and self-management skills of older adults in handling hypertension through structured education and adapted physical activity. The intervention consisted of blood pressure screenings, interactive health education using visual media, and tailored elderly exercise sessions conducted at a local clinic. Findings revealed that 55% of participants were hypertension, while educational sessions effectively improved participants’ awareness of risk factors, prevention strategies, and lifestyle modification. The exercise sessions promoted not only physical activity but also social interaction, contributing to psychological well-being. This integrated approach within a community-clinical setting demonstrates its potential as an effective and sustainable model for non-pharmacological hypertension management among older adults

Abstract

Scientific writing is an essential skill for final-year students, particularly in completing their undergraduate thesis and developing sustainable academic competencies. However, many students still face challenges in managing references and compiling bibliographies systematically. This community service activity aimed to enhance the skills of final-year students from the D4 Culinary Arts Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar in utilizing Mendeley as a reference management tool. The training was conducted through interactive lectures and hands-on practice sessions, involving 9 participants and held at the Laboratory of the Department of Family Welfare Education. Post-training evaluations indicated that most participants reached the level of “competent” to “able to mentor peers” in various skills, including account creation, software installation, integration with Microsoft Word, reference entry, automatic citation, and formatting of reference styles. There was a significant improvement in participants’ mastery of Mendeley's core features following the training. Although a few participants still experienced difficulty in adjusting citation styles, overall, the activity successfully increased students’ preparedness in scientific writing. This training is recommended for replication across other study programs as a strategic effort to strengthen digital academic literacy and improve the quality of student scientific writing within higher education institutions.
