Abstract

The global demand for pepper at the end of the 17th century led the Sultanate of Banten to attempt to expand its influence on Lampung. Tthis study aims to determine the influence of Banten on the expansion of black pepper cultivation through a study of the Sukau dalung in West Lampung. The method used in this study is the historical method with four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The primary source was the Sukau dalung, and the secondary sources were books, manuscripts, and articles related to the Sukau dalung and black pepper cultivation during the Banten Sultanate. The Sukau dalung was an agreement on pepper cultivation between the Banten Sultanate and the traditional leader of Buay Nyerupa, who was based in Tapak Siring in the Sukau region of West Lampung. This dalung was issued during the reign of Sultan Abdul Mahasin Muhammad Zainal Abidin in 1692. The dalung manuscript contains agreements on, among other things, the position of Punggawa, rules on debt and credit, the obligation to plant 500 pepper plants, pepper trade transactions, taxes and rules on travelling to and from Lampung, and a ban on war between fellow Lampung people. The Sukau Dalung, from the perspective of Gramsci's theory of hegemony, is a tool for legitimising Banten's power over a region through political and cultural work by granting a few attributes and titles, as well as spreading Islamic ideology in West Lampung.

The type of research used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection using in-depth interviews, observation and documentation techniques. Data analysis utilised qualitative data analysis with stages of data collection, data reduction, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study illustrate that gamelan acts as a social medium that connects generations and strengthens community social bonds. Gamelan also functions as a spiritual symbol in various traditional ceremonies and religious rituals, creating harmony and balance in the cultural identity of its owners. The local community in the Palas area plays a role through art associations by continuing to strive to preserve the gamelan tradition in a sustainable manner. In addition, efforts to preserve and pass on traditional arts and culture can be carried out in various ways, such as integrating gamelan as part of performing arts into the education curriculum through cultural arts lessons and local content, as well as holding festivals or regional cultural events so that gamelan continues to have a stage in accompanying traditional music and other performances.

This study aims to determine the effect of the RETINA Program (Youth Anti-Drugs and Violence) on students’ compliance with school rules at SMP Negeri 8 Bandar Lampung. This research used a quantitative approach with an ex post facto method. The population of this study consisted of 774 students, with a sample of 89 respondents determined using the simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, and were supported by interviews and documentation to strengthen the research data. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis with the help of the SPSS program. The results of the study indicate that the RETINA Program has a positive and significant effect on students’ compliance with school rules. Based on the results of the simple linear regression test in the Model Summary table, the coefficient of determination (R Square) value obtained was 0.361. This value indicates that the RETINA Program contributes 36.1% to students’ compliance with school rules, while the remaining 63.9% is influenced by other factors outside the research variables. The RETINA Program plays a preventive and educational role in increasing students’ awareness and compliance with school regulations, thereby supporting the creation of an orderly, safe, and conducive school environment.
