Abstract

Parental Mediation is a guidance for parents to mediate smartphone and tablet usage.  The Psychological measurement instruments are needed to know how parents have used strategies to mediate the use of smartphone and tablets to their children.  Therefore, this study aims to adapt the Parental Mediation instrument which was developed by Nikken & Schols (2015) to Indonesian version and explore the psychometrics properties.  The study involved 305 parents who have children aged 2-6 years old.  The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling.  The adapting process was guided by International Test Commission (2016).  The result showed that the adapted Parental Mediation instrument was reliable (α = 0.87)  and valid (GFI= 0.976; RMSEA= 0.034; CFI= 0.986; NFI= 0.948; TLI= 0.983; PNFI= 0.788). The result also showed that Indonesian parents use four strategies in mediating the use of smartphone and tablet to their children, there are: Co-use, Supervision, Active-Restrictive Mediation and Technical Mediation.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has lasted for almost 2 years, certainly brought a significant change to human life. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental stress and children’s emotion regulation during the COVID19 pandemic which has been running for a long time. The method in this study uses correlational quantitative methods. The population and sample in this study were parents who has school-age children and participate in online learning during COVID-19. The measuring instrument data was using a Parental Stress Scale (PSS) and The Emotion Regulation Checklist (ERC). Based on data analysis, a correlation value between parental stress and emotion regulation has weak correlation (r: 0,200 – 0,400), but with a significant relationship (Sig <0,50). Meanwhile, a correlation value between parental stress and lability/negativity has a fairly strong relationship (r: 0,400-0,700) and significant (Sig <0,50). This shows that there is no relationship between parental stress and emotional regulation, and also there is a negative relationship between parental stress and the lability/negativity in children

Abstract

Father involvement in child care is very important for child development. Based on several studies, father involvement can affect child development. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of how the involvement of working fathers in providing care for children who have dyslexia. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The research participants were three fathers. Data obtained through interviews with openended questions via zoom. The result showed that the three participants still took their time to be involved in parenting, then on the other hand, it was also found that the difficulties experiences by fathers in caring for dyslexic children were due to limited interaction communication skills and behavioral issues of dyslexic children.

Abstract

Abstract

Some studies have shown differences in parenting practices between teenage and emerging adult mothers; however, not all research has found this to be the case. This study aims to examine differences in perceptions of parenting roles between teenage and emerging adult mothers. Perceptions of parenting roles are associated with parenting practices and encompass four dimensions: parenting competence, parenting satisfaction, parenting investment, and integration/role balance. This research is a non-experimental study using a between-subjects design. A total of 86 teenage mothers (15–19 years old) and 86 emerging adult mothers (20–23 years old) participated in the study. Parenting self-perception was measured using the Self-Perception of Parenting Role (SPPR), and the data were analyzed using a t-test. The results indicated significant differences in parenting self-perception between teenage and emerging adult mothers in the areas of parenting competence, parenting satisfaction, and integration/role balance. Emerging adult mothers demonstrated higher competence, greater satisfaction, and a better ability to integrate the various roles they undertake. In contrast, no significant differences were found between the two groups in parenting investment. These findings support Law Number 16 Year 2019, which permits marriage for men and women aged 19 years and older.
