Abstract

Growing reliance on e-learning has transformed educational practice while simultaneously highlighting persistent challenges related to sustaining student motivation and meaningful learning engagement. Gamification has emerged as a promising instructional strategy that incorporates game design elements into digital learning environments to enhance learners' psychological involvement and academic performance. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of gamification in improving student motivation and e-learning engagement from an educational psychology perspective by examining the relationships among motivational design, psychological needs satisfaction, learner engagement, self-regulated learning, and academic achievement. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory research design was employed, combining quantitative data collected from 480 undergraduate students through standardized motivation and engagement scales, academic performance assessments, and learning management system analytics with qualitative evidence obtained from classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, reflective learning journals, and instructional document analysis. Findings revealed that students participating in gamified e-learning demonstrated significantly higher intrinsic motivation, self-efficacy, behavioral engagement, emotional engagement, self-regulated learning, and academic achievement than those enrolled in conventional online learning environments. Qualitative evidence further indicated that meaningful feedback, collaborative learning activities, learner autonomy, and active instructional facilitation strengthened the motivational impact of gamification. Results suggest that gamification functions most effectively when integrated with educational psychology principles, providing a sustainable pedagogical framework for promoting meaningful engagement, learner persistence, and long-term success in digital learning environments.

Abstract

Social isolation is a significant and modifiable risk factor for accelerated cognitive decline and dementia in aging populations. Traditional methods for detecting cognitive changes, such as clinical screenings, are often infrequent and fail to capture the subtle, early behavioral shifts that precede a formal diagnosis. This study aimed to develop and validate an artificial intelligence model designed for the early detection of cognitive decline by passively monitoring behavioral and vocal biomarkers of social isolation in older adults living independently. A 24-month, prospective longitudinal study was conducted with a cohort of 200 community-dwelling adults aged 70 and older. A suite of unobtrusive in-home sensors was used to passively collect data on movement patterns, social communication (frequency and duration of conversations), and computer/phone usage. The AI-powered system identified individuals who would later show clinically significant cognitive decline with an accuracy of 91% and a lead time of approximately 7 months before formal assessment. The model successfully distinguished between simple loneliness and the specific behavioral patterns of social withdrawal associated with cognitive impairment. AI-powered passive monitoring systems are a highly effective and ecologically valid tool for the pre-clinical detection of cognitive decline linked to social isolation.

Abstract

Background. The integration of technology in education has become increasingly essential for enhancing learning experiences, yet the successful use of technology in teaching relies heavily on teachers’ digital literacy. Digital literacy refers to the ability to use, understand, and evaluate digital tools effectively, and it has been identified as a critical factor influencing the adoption and implementation of technology in the classroom. Purpose. This study investigates the relationship between teachers’ digital literacy and their use of technology in teaching practices. The primary objective is to assess how teachers’ proficiency in digital tools impacts their incorporation of technology into the learning environment. Method. A quantitative research design was employed, using surveys to collect data from 200 teachers across various educational institutions. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data, revealing a positive correlation between digital literacy and the frequency and effectiveness of technology use in the classroom. Results. The findings suggest that teachers with higher levels of digital literacy are more likely to utilize technology in diverse and innovative ways to support student learning. Conclusion. In conclusion, enhancing teachers’ digital literacy is crucial for optimizing the integration of technology in education, thus contributing to more effective and engaging learning experiences.

Abstract

Background. Legal transactions in contemporary digital economies continue to rely on intermediary-driven systems that often generate inefficiencies, delays, and high operational costs. Blockchain technology emerges as an innovative infrastructure capable of transforming conventional legal processes through decentralized verification and automated execution mechanisms. Purpose. This study aims to analyze the role of blockchain technology in transforming legal transactions and smart contracts within modern legal systems. Method. A qualitative-dominant mixed-methods approach is employed using comparative legal analysis, secondary data evaluation, and expert interpretation of blockchain-based contractual systems. Data sources include legal frameworks, blockchain technical documentation, and institutional reports, analyzed through thematic coding and comparative performance assessment. Results. Results indicate that blockchain-based smart contracts significantly reduce transaction processing time from hours to minutes, lower dispute frequency, and improve execution accuracy and transparency compared to traditional legal systems. Inferential findings confirm statistically significant efficiency gains and cost reductions associated with blockchain adoption in legal transactions. Conclusion. The study concludes that blockchain technology fundamentally restructures legal transaction systems by enhancing automation, transparency, and reliability, while still requiring adaptive legal frameworks to address jurisdictional and enforceability challenges in decentralized environments.

Abstract

Background. Traditional writing instruction often struggles to provide continuous feedback, individualized support, and opportunities for iterative revision, leading to gaps in students’ development of critical thinking and academic discourse skills. Generative Purpose. This study investigates the pedagogical impact of integrating ChatGPT as a collaborative writing partner in an Academic English course. Method. Employing a mixed-methods design, the study involved 36 university students who participated in a six-week intervention consisting of guided writing tasks, AI-supported drafting sessions, and reflective activities. Results. The findings indicate noticeable improvements in coherence, lexical precision, and argumentative structure, accompanied by increased student confidence and metacognitive engagement. Participants viewed ChatGPT as a supportive partner that enhanced idea generation and revision processes, although concerns regarding overreliance and critical evaluation emerged. Conclusion. The study concludes that generative AI can serve as an effective pedagogical tool when integrated with explicit instruction and human guidance.
