Abstract

Background: Drug interactions can increase the risk of side effects and reduce the success of therapy, especially in neurological patients who often receive polypharmacy. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of administering a combination of drugs as a trigger for potential drug interactions based on their classification (minor, moderate, major) in patients with neurological diseases. Methods: This study is a retrospective quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of outpatient neurological patients who received more than two drugs that met the inclusion criteria. Potential drug interactions were analyzed using the https://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.html. Results: The highest category of drug interactions was moderate (n= 52; 75%) with the following drug combinations: (amlodipine and bisoprolol); (Simvastatin + Miconazole); (Simvastatin + Omeprazole); (Hydrochlorothiazide + Codeine); (Codeine + Amitriptyline). In addition, a major drug interaction category (n=28; 25%) was found in the administration of drug combinations (simvastatin and amlodipine) causing liver damage; (Alprazolam + Codeine); (Diazepam + Codeine); (Codeine + Gabapentin) each of these three drug interactions can cause CNS depression, (Furosemide + Gentamicin) causes additive nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity. Conclusion: Moderate-category interactions were the most common (amlodipine and bisoprolol). These drug interactions included pharmacodynamic interactions, and the combination of these drugs could cause clinical risks (hypotension, bradycardia). These findings indicate the need for pharmacists to perform clinical pharmacy services related to prescription review and drug therapy monitoring for patients receiving more than two drugs, as well as providing information to patients on the appropriate timing and dosage of their medications to avoid moderate and major drug interactions in neurological patients in hospitals.

Abstract

The growth of e-commerce continues to increase in Indonesia, one of which is the Shopee application which can buy goods, sell various kinds of products, and shop safely. Shopee showed in early 2020 that the beauty category ranked highest in the best-selling product categories, one of which was Moisturizer. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of each moisturizer which is more cost effective. This type of research uses a true experimental method with a posttest only control group design to determine the before and after conditions between the control group (no moisturizer) and the experimental group (moisturizer X, moisturizer Y, moisturizer Z). The sample of this study consisted of 20 volunteers with observations carried out for 4 weeks to obtain the effectiveness of moisture recovery, pores, blemishes, wrinkles. The results showed that moisturizer Z for moisture is more cost effective with an ACER value of Rp. 859 ICER Rp. 886. While moisturizer Y for pores is more cost effective with an ACER value of Rp. 2,515 ICER Rp. 2,800. While moisturizer Y for blemishes is more cost effective with an ACER value of Rp. 2,427.7 ICER Rp. 2,581. Then moisturizer Z for wrinkles is more cost effective with an ACER value of Rp. 1,846 ICER Rp. 2,307. In conclusion, moisturiser C is the most cost effective for moisture and wrinkles while moisturiser B is more cost effective for pores and blemishes.

Abstract

Sunscreen is a skincare product that functions to protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can cause skin damage such as premature aging and hyperpigmentation. This study aims to compare the effectiveness and satisfaction level of using three sunscreen products from beauty clinics in Medan City, namely clinic A, clinic B, and clinic C. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research was conducted at Tjut Nyak Dhien University, Medan, with a total sample of 50 people. Measurements were taken using a Skin Analyzer (Aramo®) device and analyzed using the Paired T-Test to analyze the differences before and after treatment, along with the distribution of questionnaires for respondent satisfaction using the R-Studio software program. The results of the Paired T-Test showed that the negative control group experienced significant changes in all parameters (p < 0.05). The sunscreens from clinic A, clinic B, and clinic C also showed varying effectiveness. The sunscreen from clinic C showed significant changes in all parameters (p < 0.05), while the sunscreens from clinic A and clinic B did not show significant changes in the sensitivity parameter (p = 0.131 and p = 0.216, respectively). However, the sunscreen from clinic A had the highest preference score (39.10%).
