Abstract

The management of medicines and Medical Consumables (MCs) plays a crucial role in improving the quality of pharmaceutical services in hospitals. Common problems include stock imbalances, such as shortages and overstocking, which negatively affect service efficiency, increase operational costs, and raise the risk of product expiration. These issues are often caused by inadequate planning that is not based on consumption data, as well as limited knowledge of pharmacy personnel in applying appropriate inventory control methods.This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of pharmacy staff in managing inventory using fast moving and slow moving methods based on real hospital data. The implementation method consisted of education, training, and hands-on mentoring conducted in several stages. The activity began with the analysis of medicine and medical consumables usage data from January to December 2025 at Labuang Baji Regional General Hospital, followed by training on pharmaceutical logistics management, and continued with practical exercises on classification and inventory control. Evaluation was carried out through discussions, case studies, and observation of participants’ ability to apply the methods.The results showed that 50.7% of medicines and 52.4% of medical consumables were categorized as fast moving, while the remaining items were classified as slow moving. After the intervention, there was a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of inventory classification, stock turnover analysis, and data-based planning. Participants were also able to identify items at risk of stock-outs and overstocking, enabling more appropriate control measures.This activity had a positive impact on the efficiency of pharmaceutical inventory management, reduced the risk of stock-outs and overstocking, and supported the improvement of healthcare service quality. Therefore, the fast moving and slow moving methods can be considered effective and applicable approaches for data-driven pharmaceutical inventory management in hospital settings

Abstract

Pharmaceutical services are seen as a form of professional service carried out directly by pharmacists with full responsibility to patients and improving the quality of life of patients. The problem of irrational use of antibiotics remains a serious issue both at the national and global levels, because it can cause resistance, therapeutic failure, and increase the burden on public health. The study aims to analyze the relationship between pharmaceutical service management and the level of rationality of antibiotic use at Takalar District Hospital. The research method used is a mixed method, which combines qualitative and quantitative techniques to obtain a more comprehensive picture. The research instruments include structured questionnaires and short interviews as a complement to deepen the data. The sampling technique was carried out using a purposive sampling method, so that 99 respondents were obtained who were inpatients using antibiotics who met the predetermined inclusion criteria. The variables used were Reliability (X1), Perception (X2), Assurance (X3), Tangible (X4) and Rationality of Antibiotic Drugs (Y1) with data analysis using SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that Reliability is a highly influential factor in the rationality of antibiotic use, with a path coefficient of 0.352. While Perception is not significant, with a path coefficient of -0.000. The Assurance variable has a path coefficient of 0.158, followed by the Tangible variable with a path coefficient of 0.112. In conclusion, Reliability, Assurance, and Tangible significantly influence the rationality of antibiotic use at Takalar District Hospital.

Abstract

The authentication of lipid sources in cosmetic products is essential due to regulatory, ethical, and religious concerns, particularly regarding the potential presence of porcine-derived ingredients. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy combined with Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for differentiating lipid profiles in olive oil–based facial mask formulations. Reference lipids, including porcine fat and olive oil, as well as lipid extracts from five commercial cosmetic products, were analyzed using FTIR spectroscopy within the mid-infrared region (4000–650 cm⁻¹). Characteristic absorption bands corresponding to triglyceride structures were observed in all samples, while differences between lipid sources were primarily identified within the fingerprint region (1500–1000 cm⁻¹). PCA was applied to enhance spectral discrimination and revealed clear separation between porcine fat and olive oil along the principal components. Most cosmetic samples (HCN, LTL, NR, and QN) were positioned closer to the olive oil reference, whereas one sample (MDG) showed spectral proximity to porcine fat. However, these results reflect spectral similarity rather than definitive confirmation of lipid origin. The findings indicate that FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometric analysis can provide a rapid and non-destructive approach for preliminary screening of lipid sources in cosmetic matrices. Nevertheless, due to the limited number of samples and the complexity of cosmetic formulations, further studies incorporating broader sample sets and confirmatory analytical methods are required to support its application in halal authentication and quality control.
