Abstract

This study explores the communication challenges organizations face when adopting AI-driven management systems, a growing trend in digital transformation. The integration of algorithmic management, where AI systems autonomously handle tasks such as scheduling, performance tracking, and decision-making, has led to a shift in traditional communication flows. This research aims to investigate how these systems alter organizational communication, focusing on the implications for employee engagement, feedback mechanisms, and decision-making processes. Using a qualitative approach with multiple case studies across the logistics, e-commerce, and digital services sectors, data was collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that algorithmic management systems reduce communication to one-way, impersonal directives, resulting in emotional dissonance, alienation, and ambiguity among employees. Informal communication networks emerge as critical spaces for meaning-making and restoring agency. The study concludes that while algorithmic systems optimize efficiency, they must be designed to incorporate dialogic processes and feedback loops to preserve organizational cohesion and trust. This research highlights the need for more communicatively informed approaches to algorithmic management that balance efficiency with relational dynamics.

Abstract

Abstract

Students of Visual Communication Design (VCD) frequently experience creative block, which hinders the ideation and visual conceptualization process, particularly during the early stages of design development. This study aims to measure the effectiveness of Generative AI in accelerating the acquisition of visual concepts and mitigating creative block among VCD students at Universitas Budi Luhur. The research employs a mixed-method approach with an explanatory sequential design, involving 24 active students from semesters 2 to 8 selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through Likert-scale questionnaires, time-tracking experiments, observations, and in-depth interviews. The experimental results show that the average time required to generate visual concepts using conventional methods is 86.13 minutes, whereas with Generative AI it decreases to 40.54 minutes, resulting in a time efficiency of 52.93%. Additionally, 66.7% of respondents reported experiencing creative block, and 90% of them confirmed that visual stimuli generated by AI helped them overcome ideation barriers more quickly. These findings indicate that Generative AI functions effectively as a creative partner that accelerates the ideation phase without replacing the designer’s curatorial role. The study recommends the structured integration of Generative AI into the VCD curriculum as an ethical and productive ideation support tool

Abstract

Modernization has changed how individuals present their identities, including through fashion. For Visual Communication Design (VCD) students, In addition to being a fundamental need, clothing is also a form of visual communication that reflects creativity, character, and social identity. This study explores how VCD students interpret fashion trends as expressions of self-identity in the modern era. Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, which includes denotation, connotation, and myth, was used together with a descriptive qualitative method. Visual observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation were used to gather data. The subjects were VCD students from two Jakarta institutions. The analysis focused on visual fashion elements such as clothing type, color, pattern, and accessories as signs that construct social significance. The study's findings demonstrate that fashion among VCD students has a broader meaning beyond physical appearance. When it comes to denotation, fashion it’s represented using visual elements like clothing also accessories. At the connotative level, these elements create meanings such as casual, creative, expressive, and modern. Meanwhile, at the mythical level, fashion becomes a symbol of creative student identity, where appearance is used as a medium of nonverbal communication and self-expression. Fashion trends among VCD students are not only influenced by global trends and social media developments, but also by academic environments and visual culture on campus.

Abstract

Film, as a mass communication medium, plays an important role in shaping public perspectives on social issues, including gender. The representation of women in film is not neutral but is shaped by ideology, power relations, and socio-cultural construction. This study aims to analyze the representation of women and the meaning of social reality portrayed in the film On Your Lap (Pangku). A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with the film as the research object and the female protagonist, Sartika, as the research subject. Data consisting of narrative and visual elements from 15 key scenes were collected through film observation, documentation, and literature study, then analyzed through data reduction, thematic categorization, narrative analysis, and interpretation using Stuart Hall's constructionist representation theory. The findings show that the film represents women through five major themes: women as mothers and family providers, victims of economic pressure, objects within patriarchal relations, agentic subjects, and symbols of social struggle. The film also constructs the meaning of lower-class women's social reality through issues of poverty, limited employment opportunities, social stigma, and gendered power inequality, while simultaneously depicting forms of resistance and solidarity among women. This study concludes that Pangku functions as a cultural text that not only represents but also critiques gender inequality and the social structures that constrain marginalized women's agency in Indonesia.
