Abstract

Tensile, impact, and hardness specimens were prepared from the round bar AISI 4140 steel with a diameter of 16 mm. All specimens were subjected to annealing heat treatment by heating in the electrical furnace at 800C for 2 hour and later cooled in the furnace until the specimens temperature reached room temperature. After annealing treatment, all specimens were ultrasonically washed using acetone. Furthermore, each specimen was given the austempering treatment by firstly heating at 800C in an induction coil heater for 10 minutes, then quickly immersed into a salt bath at 312C for 1 hour, and later cooled at room temperature. The hardness of the steel in annealing condition is about 24.33 HRC. The hardness of the steel in austempering increases significantly by about 72.63%. The impact energy of the annealed and austempered steels is about 17.33 joules and 37.67 joules, respectively. A similar increase in yield strength of the AISI 4140 steel from 316.6522 MPa (annealing condition) to 533.7562 MPa (austempering condition). The microstructures of the annealed steel are dominant pearlite and ferrite, then after austempering treatment, the bainite, martensite, and residual austenite phase are formed in the microstructure of the steel. The fractural surface of annealed steel is dominated by brittle and ductile fractures with relatively large grain sizes. On the other hand, by austempering treatment, the fractural surface morphologies of steel exhibit the tendentious-ductile type accompanied by an small amount of brittle fracture in fine grain size area.

Abstract

The study of the effect of low temperature quenching cooling media on the value of toughness and types of fractures in AISI 1045 steel aims to determine the mechanical properties of increasing the value of toughness and ductility in steel. AISI 1045 steel is heated at a temperature of 850°C held for 60 minutes and then quenched quickly to a low temperature. The medium used is water. This tempering process can increase the impact energy. The impac energy value obtained at a temperature of 350°C is 18,33 Joule. Then at a temperature of 450°C it increases by 80 Joule, after that it increases again at a temperature of 550°C which is 121,33 Joule, the value increases higher at a tempering temperature of 650°C by 135,67  Joule. Observation of the type of fault shows that the higher the temperature the more ductile it can be seen from the results of the uneven and fibrous surface. Impact  energy is influenced by variations in tempering temperature. Abstract

In an effort to meet the needs for optimum road facilities and infrastructure, through the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department, every year there are road construction and improvement activities in Pasaman Regency. The quality of road construction and improvement projects in Pasaman Regency is relatively low, so researchers conducted an analysis of the things that influence this low quality. The aim of this research is to identify factors that influence the low quality of road improvement and construction projects in Pasaman Regency and analyze the dominant factors. The data collection technique was carried out using a quantitative method, namely distributing questionnaires to respondents. Next, data processing was carried out by testing validity, reliability and factor analysis using SPSS. The results of the research conducted showed that there were 6 factors that influenced the low quality of road improvement and construction projects in Pasaman Regency, namely environmental and technical factors 16.686%, work method factors 12.047%, equipment factors 10.971%, labor factors 10.039%, managerial factors 8.648%, and external factors 7.999%. The dominant factors influencing the low quality of construction work in road improvement and construction in Pasaman district are environmental and technical factors, which consist of the response of the surrounding environment regarding project safety; existing and physical characteristics of buildings around the location; natural disasters; material prices; and funding at the contractor.

Abstract

Bird strike is a process of crashing between bird and airplane which occurs in flight phase. Based on data, there are 40 times bird strike occurs every day (FAA, 2019). There are lot of research that already conducted to decrease number of birds at the airport. But it is not given significant changes. Hence, it is needed a model that can detect bird at the airport so that we can decrease the number of birds. Study already conducted by comparing motion detection with object detection and filter which can be used to improve detection quality. Model already developed using YOLOv4 object detection with 71.89% mean average precision. It is expected that object detection can be developed to become a bird repellent system in the future

Abstract

AISI 1020 steel is a low carbon steel which has a low selling price compared to medium carbon steel, high carbon steel, and alloy steel. This material is used as a construction material. in general, it is widely used and applied to machine components and construction components such as gears and shafts with relatively small loads. The purpose of this research is to increase the value of hardness. The pack carburizing process is carried out using graphite carbon media and egg shells at a temperature of 850 ºC. This process can increase the hardness of a material. The highest hardness value was obtained with the brine cooling medium of 457,111 BHN, then the water-cooling medium of 319,345 BHN, and finally the oil cooling medium of 248,204 BHN.

Abstract

Luas perkebunan karet di Indonesia menurut data statistik adalah pada peringkat ketiga terbesar setelah sawit dan kelapa. Namun demikian petani karet masih sulit untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pokok mereka antara lain karena para petani menjual karet dalam bentuk lateks yang digumpalkan atau karet mentah. Sementara Indonesia walaupun merupakan negara pengekspor karet tapi juga sampai saat ini masih mengimpor karet jenis tertentu. Jika harga karet ditingkat petani tidak ada peningkatan maka petani akan sangat sulit memenuhi kebutuhannya maka lama kelamaaan, petani mungkin akan mengganti tanaman karet dengan tanaman lain sehingga produksi karet di Indonesia akan terus berkurang. Tim pengabdi dari Teknik Mesin Universitas Lampung menganggap hal ini penting sekali untuk dicarikan solusinya. Salah satu solusinya yaitu dengan cara meningkatkan pemahaman petani karet mengenai cara pembuatan lateks menjadi produk. Peningkatan pemahaman petani dilakukan dengan penyuluhan mengenai pembuatan lateks menjadi produk karet lembaran, sarung tangan karet, sepatu boot karet, dan karet pengikat. Hasil dari evaluasi kepada peserta penyuluhan menunjukan adanya peningkatan pemahaman pada petani karet mengenai cara membuat produk dari bahan lateks. Abstract

Baja merupakan material yang banyak dimanfaatkan dalam berbagai bidang industri. Salah satu jenis baja yang umum digunakan adalah baja AISI 1045, yang sering diaplikasikan sebagai bahan poros pada komponen mesin. Dalam operasinya, poros bekerja di bawah beban dinamis dalam jangka waktu lama sehingga berpotensi mengalami kegagalan lelah (fatigue). Kekasaran permukaan memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap ketahanan lelah suatu komponen; semakin kasar permukaannya, semakin mudah terbentuk retak awal yang dapat berkembang menjadi patahan dan memperpendek umur pakai komponen. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh kekasaran permukaan terhadap ketahanan lelah baja AISI 1045, dilakukan pengujian fatigue dengan metode rotary bending. Pengujian dilakukan dengan variasi pembebanan sebesar 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, dan 70% dari tegangan tarik maksimum material, disertai pengamatan makroskopik terhadap pola patahan yang terbentuk. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa ketahanan lelah tertinggi diperoleh pada kekasaran permukaan 0,5–1 µm dengan jumlah siklus 829.080 pada pembebanan 20%, dan nilai tersebut menurun seiring meningkatnya kekasaran permukaan.

Abstract

Usaha perkebunan sawit menyumbang 42% dari kebutuhan minyak nabati dunia. Sektor industri sawit memberikan sumbangan yang cukup besar kepada perekonomian Indonesia, melalui ekspor Crude Palm Oil (CPO) dan produk-produk turunannya dengan rata-rata sebesar 14,19% per tahun dari total ekspor non-migas Indonesia. Di Lampung sendiri luas perkebunan sawit menurut data tahun 2019 adalah seluas 109,24 ribu hektar. agroindustri sawit ini tentu saja menghasilkan limbah antara lain tandan kosong kelapa sawit yang cukup berlimpah. Desa Onoharjo terletak di Kecamatan Terbanggi Besar. Kabupaten Lampung tengah. Masyarakatnya merupakan petani antara lain berkebun sawit. Limbah tandan kosong kelapa sawit (TKKS) dihasilkan dari perkebunan kelapa sawit. Limbah ini sebenarnya merupakan sumber serat. Serat ini merupakan material yang ramah lingkungan. Pada kegiatan pengabdian ini akan dilakukan kegiatan workshop pengabdian yaitu mengenai teknologi pengekstrakan serat dari tandan kosong kelapa sawit menjadi serat kepada kelompok tani di Desa Onoharjo. Serat yang telah diekstrak ini nantinya akan dapat digunakan untuk membuat produk-produk yang bernilai ekonomis. Serat diekstrak manual dan akan diberikan perakuan kimia menggunakan sodium hidroksida dan selanjutnya dikeringkan didalam alat pemanas. Hasil pre test dan post test menunjukan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta terhadap pengambilan dan pengawetan serat tandan sawit.
